Twitching and jumping the Wild Dog egg swung violently before righting itself. This didn’t seem in any way to deter the little one inside, they were ready now and shell or no shell they were going to make an appearance. A crack sounded out as the first dark line zigzagged its way across the top of the egg. There was not a moment of rest. No scant seconds to ponder the colour or fate of the hatchling inside. Not even a breath had passed before a head exploded out of the top of the egg, whipping back and forth to take in all the sights it could.
Letting out a happy squeak the green looked around at the collected people. There were just so many. Wild Dog however didn’t seem the least bit nervous, the young dragon if anything seemed to be smiling at the people around her. Two clawed feet scrabbled to drag her out of the egg, this was however where things went a little wrong. As the dragon shifted the egg pitched over and rolled away from the rest of the clutch.
It came to a halt and if there had been any worries for the little green they were soon washed away by an excited chatter as she hauled herself out. Wild Dog was just as much a mix of shades as her egg. Dark green on her face, pale on her chest, it was as though the excitable dragon hadn’t been able to decide just what she had wanted to look like. Spinning around the green tried to look at everyone at once, calling happily to the candidates. They’d play with her! She knew it!

Mairin ( Interacting with Hennory and Mei)
Mairin had seen Hennory looking over in her direction but quickly realized it was the girl beside her he was looking at. At least for a moment anyways before his gaze shifted and he waved at her. Mairin grinned and waved back, mouthing her own returned wish of luck to him. He seemed nice and reliable enough from the little time she'd spent with him, if he was destined to become a rider today Mairin would truly be happy for him.
Still Mairin turned curiously to the girl beside her. Mei who was looking off into the stands. " Who are you looking for?" Whoever it was they seemed more important to Mei than to be looking for Hennory.
Mairin herself had no one to look for, her father would likely out at sea and her moth- Oh! Mairin's thoughts were interrupted as the wild dog egg began to hatch. She snorted softly as the hatchling found her way out into the world in a charming manner. She had quite the patchwork hide and the little green seemed just as happy and excitable as she remembered the dragonet's egg being.

Lysandor
It had been awkward, standing there not alone but ..certainly without the benefit of friends or family to help support him. Silently reminding himself that he need not worry just be calm and things would unfold as they were meant to be.
Lysandor had been holding his breath as the first of the eggs seemed almost too eager to hatch. Watching as it twitched and bounced in an energetic manner before finally the shell split apart to reveal bright and energetic eyes. He almost took a step forward but stopped himself as the egg rolled, it hardly seemed to detour the small dragon as it clawed free of its shell and seemed happy to be free of its confines.
It was calling out, searching for the person who was to bond with it. Lysandor reminded himself to stand still the dragon would approach him not the other way around.

Ameleia's eyes went to the Wild Dog egg as it started to react in such a bouncy manner, something that caused her to lift a hand to smother a bit of a giggle, "So cute." She murmured, having had the chance to meet with that egg during the touching a couple sevenday ago, and it excited her to see what would be coming from the egg with the tricolored shell. As it burst open, revealing a pretty green, she gave a happy sound, "Wow! Just as pretty as her egg was." She said to herself.
As the dragoness started to bounce around the area, looking to be quite the playful little thing, she could help but to look at her, look to the other candidates, and then back again wondering who it would who got to end up with such an energetic little dragoness. Whoever it was would be lucky for sure... but then again whoever got any of the dragons out on the sands today would be lucky if you asked her.

Ashlyn
Ashlyn was quiet, trying to remind herself everything was going to be okay, no matter what. The sounds of cracking drew her attention back to the eggs and she saw the wild dog one in motion. She tilted her head as she watched it working its way out and when the egg rolled, she wanted to make sure it was alright. When the little green dragon emerged from her shell, she smiled brightly seeing how cute she was. When the little one called out to them, she felt a swell of excitement, thinking it seemed to be a happy, little thing.
"You will find your rider, little one,"she said in a whisper, truly feeling invested in this, even if she did not get a dragon today.

Mei (Response to Mairin)
She jumped somewhat when she realized that someone was speaking to her, looking over at Mairin with a look of vague confusion before registering the statement. "Oh! I was just hoping my parents made it here, but-"
She was unable to finish the statement before one of the eggs gave a mighty crack, bringing everyone's attention front and center as the Wild Dog Egg split, and its contents rolled along with the remnants of its shell before finally succeeding in extricating herself from it.
Baby dragons didn't look quite how Mei had imagined them. They weren't quite dragons in miniature, but rather like an awkward, leggier rendition. Ugly would not be the appropriate word. No.. young, still growing, and the adorable nature of the green managed to put her at ease. It seemed playful, like a puppy. But these were not puppies at all. She had to stop and remind herself that these small creatures would become big, strong beasts like Zelith.. though of course this green would not get that big.. but compared to most other creatures on Pern, even greens were impressive in size.
Hennory
It was almost a weight off his shoulders for the first egg to hatch, spilling its enthusiastic contents onto the sands. Said contents seemed quite friendly, at that. His lips curled just a bit, the grin being that of relief as the first veil of the unknown was pulled away. This is what a baby dragon looked like up close. They were different, but he could handle that. He gave one long, shaky exhale as he tracked the green's progress on the sands, curious as to which direction she would move, and who would Impress the first dragon.
Would it be him? What sort of dragon would find him worthy? Even as he watched the green, he reminded himself that they often, but not always went to women. It was moments like this he'd wished he'd not been hold-born. Perhaps then he'd have more an idea of what to expect.

Alara
Alara grinned as the wild dog egg began to rock and within moments a green head had popped free of the multi coloured shell. Dragonets were always so cute when they hatched, it didn't hurt any that this was seemed quite playful. Perhaps Alara could do some tricks for her later, get her to chase shadow puppets or something. It was truly unfortunate that one of the few times she had to be a real adult was out on the sands. Alara knew better though than to distract a dragonet searching for their partner just for her own amusement, she wouldn't be the reason one got confused and went between.

While Wild Dog happily skipped over to the candidates another egg decided that now was when it planned on making an appearance. A long thin egg began to shake and quiver. The movements were small and controlled, nothing like the previous eggs dramatic movements. This egg was more restricted in it's movements. Tension building as small cracks began to appear all across the misty grey and purple surface.
The Black Mamba egg's shell was broken when a dark blue foot broke through. Another soon followed and a nose followed not long after. Many candidates would remember this egg and how much it wanted to be left alone, it seemed peculiar it would hatch so early. The tri-shaded muzzle pushed harder at the egg, as it slowly forced the opening to become larger. Small fragments of egg fell away as the dragon slipped out of the egg.
The dark blue hatchling stood slowly and looked around, lacking the excitement of his sister. The blue was a dark grey-blue with a paler underbelly. The blue would have seemed rather uninteresting, were in not for the large dark mouth covering his throat. The dragon turned his calm eyes to the candidates and hiss softly. Clearly Black Mamba was no more inclined to them than he had been before.

Z'ke
Aioth of course noticed first, his deepening voice joining the thrumming of the dragons of the Weyr. His head tilted curiously towards the hatchling sands. Z'ke, let's take a break. He stood from where he'd been reclined against the wall in their weyr. The already large blue shook himself off and stretched before turning towards the shaft of sun that shone through the open doorway.
Z'ke dropped his new set of strap leathers back onto the bed. He'd yet to begin to actually piece them together. "What you think I'm going to sit around here when there's eggs hatching?!" He laughed and wrapped an arm over the long blue neck of his bonded. "Just cause I'm not standing never stopped me." It was true. He'd Impressed days after his twelfth nameday, too young to become a candidate in time.
Aioth snorted. Nor I. The pair made quick time to the Hatching Grounds, taking up places among the higher stands where Aioth wouldn't be in the way.
"I still haven't forgiven you for clawing me." Z'ke teased.
I did no such thing.
Zofer
The Hatching couldn't have come soon enough thought Zofer as he threw on his robes and walked in with the rest of the candidates. He was getting more than antsy with the waiting. He wanted to get out on the ocean again but the closest he could get was trips to the beach in his off time. If he didn't do something other than mindless work soon he might just go crazy here.
Zofer wasn't a quitter though. He'd chosen to come stay until the Hatching and he wouldn't leave unless he failed to Impress.
Jasiline
"Oh shells. oh shells, oh SHELLS!" A herdsman's flit and a fast runner were the only things that got Jasiline to the Hatching grounds in time. She'd been on duty with the beast herders, repairing part of a broken fence when the dragons began their welcoming song.
It was no surprise then that when she bolted onto the Sands, her robes were in disarray and there were already hatchlings emerging from their shells. Of course going unnoticed was probably not an option at this point but Jasiline did her best to slip in with the rest of the girls without causing too much trouble.
She was sure to catch it from the candidate master later, even if it wasn't her fault.

Alara
Alara watched the wild dog dragonet move off towards some of her fellow candidates but it seemed that the little green would not be given much time alone on the stage that was the hatching grounds. It looked like soon Alara would have to begin the task of paying attention to multiple dragonets at once as the Mamba egg began to crack. The young woman had long ago learned that focusing on just one dragonet or just the eggs and the like could get you accidentally run into or swiped at by a a hatchling who felt you weren't giving them the amount of attention they were due.
When a blue nose popped out of the black mamba egg Alara was pleased. Technically hatchings were supposed to be luckiest if a bronze hatched and impressed first but it was the smaller and more agile dragons who made up the majority of the Weyr's population. Thread was falling again and Pern needed dragons of all colours not just the big boys that were often so desired although they certainly had their place as well.
It looked like the dark hided blue wanted nothing to do with her or the other candidates just yet though. Alara wondered if Ista was going to become known for having standoffish or aggressive blues during their hatchings. Warily the young woman let her gaze shift between the blue and green dragonets, doing her best to keep track of both

Lysandor
Was watching the the first hatchling scamper towards the candidates though it didn't seem inclined to any particular candidate at the moment, he was trying not to stare at it, the sheer bounciness of it was distracting as she seemed to be over flowing with energy. A moment later though the mamba egg was hatching, his gaze was torn from the wild dog hatchling and to the second egg.
This hatchling was a blue and seemed less inclined to come near anyone, unfriendly and wary of everyone around it. He felt...a bit sorry for it, though he remembered how it seemed to feel disdain for all the candidates..would that mean it would choose no one?

Mairin
Mairin sent the hissing blue dragonet an unimpressed stare back. She wasn't exactly challenging him but she wasn't about to be intimidated by him either. Instead she shifted impatiently from heel to ball of each foot as she waited to see which egg would crack next and who the excited looking green would pick. It was clear right now that the recently hatched blue wasn't looking for his partner just yet. While she wouldn't be subdued by his less than positive nature Mairin did hope he found someone, it would be a shame for the clutch to lose one of the first hatchlings.
Still quite new to the whole Weyr business Mairin had no idea how to spot the difference between a dragonet waiting or quietly searching and one who was angry or distressed that the mind they sought wasn't there. Eye colours could apparently be a bit deceptive right now from what she'd learned during recent lessons. They could change rapidly and even the usually concerning grey could appear for a short while with the dragon still firmly in the land of the living.

Ameleia was watching as the pretty green with the interestingly colored hide danced around the sands before her attention was stolen away by one of the eggs that she hadn't had to time to go visit during the egg meet. It only made her that much more curious about that one, not knowing it's personality didn't allow for her to even guess what might be in there. When the shell cracked open and another appeared forth from the egg, and revealed a rather beautiful blue hided dragon. The girl couldn't help but to give a gasp of surprise then a smile, "Wow! Isn't that a beautiful color." She murmured, eyes going quite wide as she looked him over. She tilted her head to one side, taking in the pretty coloration that he had, even having a cute, pale colored underbelly.
"He really is a beautiful one, isn't he?" She murmured to herself and to anyone that might be close enough to him. She wanted to coo over him and give him compliments but knew that it was best to wait and let him come to her or to whoever it was that really interested him. As much as she would love to chat it up with the various dragons she knew that wasn't allowed right now.

Mei
Pissing off a dragon while it was in the egg was one thing. Now, that little beast was out of his shell and baring rather ominous little needle teeth. The only thing that didn't make her suddenly feel a sense of panic was that the mamba was seeming more that it was warning people than being outright aggressive. Regardless, Mei was not about to tempt fate; she stayed close to the other women on the sands, feeling a sense of safety in numbers.
Luckily, she was able to maintain a decent poker face, standing proud despite being dwarfed by several inches by many of the others on the sands. Mei wasn't about to go out of her way to have an angry staring contest with baby dragons, but she certainly didn't want to come off as weak. It had been mentioned in their classes that the dragons would sense their fear. On top of that, approaching dragons seemed to be an obvious no-no, unless they were chosen.
How she'd know if she'd been chosen was beyond her. She assumed that the young dragon would speak to her, but the way people spoke of it implied that it was much more than that. Her eyes drifted from the green, then toward the blue, trying to read their body language, follow the line of their eyes. Perhaps the two of them already had someone in mind? Would either of them look to her? If they did, she sincerely hoped she wouldn't misread their signals and get mauled instead-- perhaps she'd duck out of the way just to be safe if they moved her way.
Hennory
Oh, there went the angry little blue; Hennory had given that egg a wide berth when the touching had ensued, taking it's obvious hint that it did not want to be touched as he moved on to other eggs. Mei's amusing reaction to it had stood out in his mind, along with the sea crafter fellow who had also hazarded a touch upon the dark, ominous shell. It seemed the dragon was in no better a mood, hissing out towards the candidates in a clear warning not to come near.
Of course, the little blue would have to Impress or die. The futility of the situation made Hennory pause, mulling over the thoughts in his mind even as his eyes strained to keep watch on both of the hatchlings at once. Funny, how the fate of the candidates were held in the wings of these dragons. The ultimate choice was up to them, but in the end, the dragons themselves still had to make it. Perhaps none of them really had full control over their destiny, only working within the obvious constraints of their nature and environment.
Huh.. those were awful deep thoughts for such a moment, when he should be focusing on keeping his mind clear and inviting, and light on his feet to avoid being mauled. Still, no matter how hard he tried, trying to clear his mind only made the thoughts come into his brain with increasing persistence, especially with concerns about destiny and fate. Ugh. He plucked at the end of his braid with fingers, aiming to busy his hands so that he didn't feel so awkward about merely standing there waiting for the Impressions to occur.

F'ronell and Brown Eileith The wild dog hatchling reminded him of his impression, of the moments before his brown had finally claimed him, when the other little brown had wanted to play. He smiled soppily, reaching out to the brown who was watching from one of the ledges. We are together. Maybe he should have sat up there with him, but he had wanted to mingle a bit. He had become practically anti-social since he had impressed, spending more of his time with Eileith than anyone else, and he was fairly certain that he should probably change that. Plus, there was always an extra gamble or two to be had, and he couldn't miss that. Plus, he did have to see if his guesses were correct, and he glanced down at his list briefly, checking off the two eggs that had hatched. Both wrong, but that happened. Egg guessing was not an exact science, and he hadn't bet too many marks because of that.
