The wind crawled across D'von's scales, but he barely shivered at its cold touch. Being raised in the desert had its perks; being used to extreme heat and extreme cold was one of them. He nearly lost sight of the mare because he paused when he spotted a plant, plucking some of its leaves and chewing them as he continued. When it appeared that the mare had settled, he began circling at a distance that she hopefully wouldn't notice him at. Once she was asleep, then he could move closer.

It seemed to take hours for Nae to slip into a comfortable sleep, but when she did, it was fitful, and night-terrors flicked through her subconciousness, making her writhe and wriggle in fear, along with shivering in the cold night. She wasn't entirely used to being outdoors at night, atleast not when she wasn't around her family who's body heat kept everybody warm, especially with her sister's little boys... well.. they weren't little anymore she supposed.

When D'von finally approached the mare, he was overcome with sympathy. He'd chewed the leaves he'd picked earlier into a paste, and although it was risky, he spread the paste along her wounds. Guilt attempting to get a hold of him, declaring him responsible for the injuries. He should've stopped Orthus. It didn't matter that he would've been ground into the dust, he should've intervened. He stepped away, planning to patrol the perimeter, when he saw her shivering. She was hopeless, wasn't she? He laid down beside her, careful not to puncture her with his shoulder spikes in the act. What was wrong with him? He shouldn't have become this attached... and yet, in his mind, the still nameless mare was his. It didn't matter who else had been intimate with her--he'd claimed her as his own. D'von wouldn't let any more misfortune fall upon her.

Nae didn't move, her dreams were troubling enough as it was. But when the warm body pressed close to hers, her bad dreams vanished, and the other's body heat stopped her shivering. A small sigh of content left her sleep drowsed lips as she fell into a more comfortable sleep for the rest of the night.

The next morning, she woke, confused for a moment as to where she was, but when she came too, and saw the male she was sleeping with, her pink eyes flamed again as she got up to her hooves ache-ily and gave a small growl at him. "Just who do you think you are?"

D'von opened a bleary eye when he heard the mare's voice. Ah. He'd nodded off. This was going to be just peachy. In the minute it took him to reply, he'd located all of his options and decided on the one he'd use. "Well," he replied simply, "the last time I checked, I was D'von, a draconic Azrien that was the one-time lover to a flirtatious mare who's name he never learned. And you are?"

Arachnae growled once more, irritated and annoyed at his response. What a sarcastic, fourlegged, sexy, draconic b*****d. "Leaving. And quit following me." She demanded as she turned and began to hobble away, her joints even stiffer and more sore than they had been the day before, due to the cold weather and sleeping as hard as she did.

D'von got to his feet, sighing. Still no name for the mare he was attempting to guard. He couldn't help admiring her wit, but that didn't satisfy his curiosity. He'd have to try and figure out a different way to get her name... Maybe he could ask her in her sleep? But there was no guarantee it would work...

Well, he'd think on that while he walked.

Arachnae stumbled and fell, this time unable to get up due to the wounds. She gave a little snarl at herself. She was far from home, essentially alone except for the pest that kept following her, and was severely injured. This was a bad situation she had gotten herself into this time. Sighing and rolling her eyes Nae turned her head to look at the dragon. "Look... if you actually want to help, you know, you could help me walk to a stream so I can clean up and keep from getting an infection." She said, watching him silently,

D'von sighed. "We're in a desert, Tattoos. There are no streams anywhere nearby." The paste he'd put on the wounds before would help, but it had dissolved. "There are a few plants that can be chewed up into a paste and help keep away infection around here. There's also cacti around if you need water." His eyes scanned their surroundings until he spotted a cactus. It was a small one, but at least it was right there. He wordlessly trotted over to the water-retaining plant, rearing back and smacking one of the "arms" of the cactus off. His head snapped forward to snatch it from the air and prevent the water inside from spilling everywhere. He carried it over, gazing at the mare before gesturing to her wounds. If she let him see them, he'd pour the water over them. D'von didn't show the pain of holding the cactus between his teeth, the needles poking into his gum.

Arachnae growled and slowly and hesitantly permitted the male to look at her wounds. She grit her teeth to the pain as he poured the water over her more serious wounds. After awhile she unclenched her teeth and looked at him. "Arachnae." She finally said.

D'von carefully poured the water of the wounds, trying to keep the flow at a steady stream to mitigate the pain it caused. When she finally handed over her name, he simply glanced at her before returning to his task. Arachnae. A unique name for a unique mare, he guessed. When he finished, he tossed the empty cactus off to the side where it wouldn't be stepped on. "D'von." He'd said it before, but he wasn't sure if she was actually listening with how he'd dramatized her question. The stallion's gaze briefly fell on a figure in the distance. That would be trouble later, but for now, the figure would stay away. He turned to face north. "You should go that way to get back to the plains." Otherwise she'd be stuck in the desert, and he wasn't going to bite every cactus they came across.

Arachnae simmered, her blood boiling hot. Who was he to tell her what to do? "Why should I go that way, when you're just going to follow me?" She asked wryly, not noticing the figure in the distance.

"Because unless you want to eat lizards, you're going to starve if you go any other direction," D'von replied. It was the best reason he could give her that she might actually listen to. He doubted the dot on the horizon would catch her attention because she was focused on being mad at him. He sighed and turned, walking south. "It was just a suggestion..." Just go north. Just go north. Be stubborn and go the opposite direction. He didn't want her following him south. Arachnae wouldn't be able to survive down there--for multiple reasons. No matter what, she needed to go north...

Arachnae watched him for a moment before following him stubbornly. He'd followed her. Now it was her turn to follow him. "Just what are you playing at? Following me and then telling me to go away? You make absolutely no sense."

D'von sighed, stopping in his tracks and spinning around. "I have no intention of following you if you plan on starving to death because you don't know how to live in a desert." Walking past her towards the north this time, his spikes brushed her side--though he corrected himself before they could poke any wounds. Arachnae was impossible. None of this methods applied to her. Reverse psychology became double-reverse psychology with her. "What do you care what I do? I don't know you, remember?"
