Makani reached his hands out, resting them on the fruits that were pushed his way, sliding his hands against them to get a feel for them, then gave a nod when he was told that he would be skinning them. He wondered for a moment what it was that she needed this sort of fruit for as far as cooking the Mammu went but he would do his best to get them skinned and skinned well. It seemed that they didn't want to waste even a little bit of the fruit within the think skins. Understandable, they lived in the middle of nowhere in a snowy nation, of course fruit like this wouldn't be all that easy to get their hands on, not in as good of condition as this stuff felt like it was in.

As he worked on skinning the fruits he listened closely to his sister as she worked on the various other chores. He could hear the clicking of the knife, the shifting of the various jars and the scents of the various spices and the meat. He wondered exactly what it was that she was working on, able to pick up only so much on it. He was curious but wouldn't bother her about it, the way that she was breathing made it seem as though she were concentrating quite hard on what it was that she was doing. Best that he didn't bother her right now and instead he would concentrate on the job that she had given to him. It was important too after all, she wouldn't be able to finish without the fruit... though how it would become part of the meal, that he didn't know.

"Done!" He chirped after some time peeling the fruit, smiling brightly in delight over the fact that he had been able to finish off the skinning of the sweet smelling fruits quicker then he had thought he'd be able to do, "Can I eat a bit of it? It smells really good!"

Turning her attention to the fruits that had been skinned in a rather neat manner, having salvaged all of the fruit Eira couldn't help but to stare for a moment. It was on the tip of her tongue to demand to know if her brother was actually blind or not but she decided against it, finding the question to be one that sounded rude even to her. Instead she gave a smile, "They look good and you can have a piece of one of them but I am going to need to rest of them for what I am making." She told the youngling before she continued on with her own preparations. There was still much to be done after all if she wanted to get it all ready for when their father was to return home, too much so that she couldn't really allow herself to become too distracted by Makani.

Her hands moved swiftly, cutting things up, putting them aside, mixing, blending, preparing, and then everything was soon put into a heavy metal pan and she carried it over to the fire, hanging it on the hook that was suspended over it, the heat quickly setting the Mammu steak to sizzling in it's own juices as well as the sweet sauce she'd made of the fruit that Makani skinned and various different sorts of spices, "Alright, you keep you ears and nose on the meat, Makani, while I work on going to clean up the mess I made." She told the boy, figuring that both of those senses would help a lot when it came to making sure that the food didn't have a chance to burn. With him in charge of that task she was quick to return to the table, cleaning everything up, handing some scraps over to Rae, and then moved to put the dishes off to the side. She would wash them later, after they ate, since she would have to eat the various dishes that they ate off of anyway.

Once all of that was done he was moving to wash her hands, finishing up this final step before the sound of a door creaking open caught her attention...

Makani moved to stand a safe distance from the fire, enjoying the warmth of it as well as the scents and sounds of the Mammu as it cooked. It really did smell good, didn't it? Enough that he nearly purred in delight, wanting to clap his hands from sheer delight. He hadn't really understood what it was that his older sister had been planning for the fruit until now. Now that he could smell it cooking he understood... and it nearly had the boy drooling in delight over how tasty it smelled at the moment.

"I can't wait to have some of this, Eira!" He chirped in a delighted manner, clapping his hands together. The boy was so caught up in it that he almost missed the sound of the opening door, almost but not quite, since the opening of the door came along with a cold breeze and the various scents that he associated with his father, "Papa!" He cried, whirling around on his heel to hurry over to him, finding himself quickly scooped up into the mans strong arms and he happily snuggled against the strong man.

Eira gave a bit of a pout when Makani got the hug that she was kind of wanting before she walked over to the fire pit, carefully flipping over the meat. Once that was done she dared to glance over at the two of them through her bangs, watching in silence for a time. She supposed that it wasn't so bad having the kid here, was it? Even if he was strange, bothersome, and the son of some woman that she'd never even met. It seemed to have perked their father up some, as though having a piece of his last woman around helped to heal his heart some, just as having Eira around helped after the loss of his wife. He really seemed to have terrible luck when it came to women, making her think that the next one that man got she might have to pick out for him, to make sure that t was a strong and hearty one. Not any time soon though, not until she was moved out.

"Dinner is almost done if you want to get changed out of your hunting gear." She called over to her father, poking at the steak with the utensil she held. It needed more time so him going to change would help out a lot in giving her what time she needed to finish up the rest of the meal that she was preparing.

Makani was given one last tight hug, with Herluin looking between the two of them in a thoughtful and curious manner, before the boy was returned to his feet. The little halfbreed smiled up at his father, "We made you a tasty Mammu steak! I skinned the fruit all by myself!" He chirped happily, overjoyed as the man gave him a pat on the head as a reward for doing so well at the task that he had been given and accomplished. He reached out catch hold of the man's hand, following along after him as he headed for his room, recounting the tales of the day, everything that had happened save for the argument with Eira, talking about how he had been allowed to hold Flurry which was something that rarely happened since Flurry was so precious to Eira.

The boy's excited chatter filled the air as Herluin changed out of his hunting gear and weapons, all things that were hung up neatly where they belonged, up out of the reach of Makani, who hadn't really shown any interest in such things to this point. As the man emerged from his room once more Makani was quick to follow him once more still chatting away, crawling into his lap once the man sat down. Once he was comfortable in Herluin's lap Rae came over to lay near them, ever the over protective guardian that she was.

It wasn't long before the three members of the family were gathered near to the warm first, plates and utensils in hand, eating the dinner that the two of them had worked so hard to get prepared. Herluin was quiet most of the time, allowing his two children to fill the silence with their chatter, and the man couldn't help but to feel completely content at the moment. Seeing the two of them getting along in such a manner, it really did help in taking the edge off of his main worry, that being what would happen to the two of them were anything to happen to him. The world wasn't the most friendly of places, this he knew too well, but knowing that they could take care of one another like this, work together like this, it took such a weight off of his shoulders.

The rest of the night was filled with their chatter, and an occasional word or two from Herluin, before they all worked on the dishes together. It seemed that, despite having spent a lot of time afield today hunting the various beasts of Zena, that Herluin didn't much mind helping out with the dishes since Eira and Makani had prepared dinner. It wasn't something he'd do every night, some hunts were more exhausting them others after all, but he didn't mind lending a hand when he could with such chores if only because it gave him more time with the pair. The was nothing the hunter enjoyed more then this time with them, something that caused him to smile more then he normally did.
