"I'm freezing by butt off is how I'm d-doing..." Jerry mumbled, huddling nearby Rep, who's coat looked far cozier than the one the facility had supplied him. Maybe if he only killed a yeti a little bit he could still wear it's pelt. "I could tend to some newbies," He smiled weakly, glancing to the old and new faces all getting geared up to go.

Arriving not long after the others, Kat tugged at the scarf wrapped firmly around her neck, tucking it in as if to keep whatever warmth she could stuffed inside her coat. Although she had technically been here before, with her memories wiped clean of this place, it felt as though she were here for the first time. Preferring the warmer climate, the sun hunter wrinkled her nose, muttering a comment about feeling as though she were back in Canada.

In any case, she signed on for this mission, she might as well make herself useful.

Melvin entered the portal, flipping through the pages of the folder with interest. It was good if SOMEONE read all the information, and he always loved research.

Having talked to Rep about his mission before, he kept his ear out and spotted the posters. It was nice to go somewhere with snow, and he was more than happy to put on layers, one of his thicker sweaters, and actually pull his new jacket out of the closet. Ever since Rep told him that he should have clothes for any climate back when he was a trainee, he had went out and got clothes for rain, snow, and blazing heat. He even bought boots.

With ear muffs on and his red scarf, the climate inside the base was at least bearable. It was still freezing as hell.

"What happened to the hunters before?" He had to ask, looking around at the wrecked base.

Did they escape?

"Best of luck out there dude." he said to Dakota, waving him off. "Keep in touch, headsets should be fine out here, no interference."

Jerry got an encouraging pat on the back, Rep seeming to have decided to err on the side of encouragement rather than dragging out the condemnation any further. "Feel free man, I'm sure there are trainees and s**t about who'd welcome a bazooka on their side."

Kat got a nod of greeting too. "Best solution to the cold is kicking a**, that's totally a fact okay."

Even Melvin had joined in, though his question was perhaps a bit less optimistic. "They erm." He remembered the bodies out in the open and the desolation of the base. "They kicked it, as far as I'm aware, I don't think they like, erm. Saw the attack coming." He cleared his throat. "So we should stay alert!"

He glanced for just a second before looking back at the paperwork. "Oh...." Death. Even after all this time and working in the Infirmary, it still rattled him. These yetis took an entire group out. A group of hunters familiar with this place and used to this climate. "Maybe we shouldn't send too many people out on their own then." He didn't want to see anyone reported missing or dead.

His mind floated back to that booth, to Cricket, and he felt a raw nerve touched tied to a old fear.

Deep breathes.

He could do this. He was stronger than a trainee in power - though probably weak physically despite working out. No one seemed to have a rough idea of the general power or number of the yetis mentioned or even attacked. The paperwork was vague, noting sightings, climate, bad tempter, some various descriptions of smells, and description from various reports. It didn't help out too much. Melvin was pretty sure that if he saw a big mass of hair trying to rip his head off that he wouldn't need a report to tell him it was a yeti or just something to shoot at.

How did the Suns walk out into the unknown alone like this? Did they have a mantra? Should he have a mantra? Mental perpetration had studies that it helped with goal setting and confidence.

What could his be?

I'm a man. No. Even repeating that seemed more of a statement, and just being a man didn't mean s**t. He knew some huge dicks. It didn't exactly encourage a fighting spirit in him.

I can do this. No. Even making such a statement made him cringe. There were plenty of unforeseen possibilities that could arise where he would have to admit he couldn't do something, accept his many limitations, and work around them.

I'm not going to die. Sounded more like a wish than a mantra.

Melvin sighed. Maybe the key to being a Sun was not over-thinking a mantra.

Rep on the other hand didn't seem bothered by the prospect of imminent death or potential destruction his usual sullen standoffishness and snide comments were completely absent and he was positively cheery. Melvin got a slightly mad grin for his advice. "Nah man, it's cool, we are more than capable, and we've got headsets and s**t. Anyone gets into s**t, we can gang up and help them."

It did however draw Rep's attention to the fact that he was just standing around while there was work to be done, he hadn't come out here to make other people do all the work.

"Well then. How about a perimeter check Goldilocks? You won't be alone, I need to get another look at this place."

He cracked a smile at Stormy's humming, giving her a slightly amused look as he double checked his headset, fiddling with the controls to make sure it worked properly. Once he was certain, he slid the goggles from the top of his head down onto his face and then stuck the headset over his ears.

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3, testing.

<< Kid. >>

Idiot.

Gale slid his gaze towards Rep, a faint smirk playing at the corners of his lips. "With Mark running things, chances are he's already broken something by now, so we'll see what happens."

It was sort of an olive branch towards the other. Sort of. Maybe. Maybe he was just tired of being irritable all the time, or maybe Gale really did just want to push all of the old angst under the bridge. Besides, he had enough to keep his emotions high already, and holding old grudges was not one of them.

Gale rolled his eyes at Dakota, gave Kat's arm a friendly squeeze in greeting, and stepped through the portal to the other side.

A blast of cold air hit him abruptly, like walking into an ice cube. Gale pulled his heavy fur coat more tightly around him, dragging his scarf up to cover the lower half of his face. The base was mostly in shambles, just like the last time he'd seen it, with broken remains of various objects littering the ground, metal and plastic fragments all over the place. He stepped over an overturned chair and forced his way through a doorway on the other side of the room, frowning a little as he tugged on the heavy piece of metal blocking his way. Climbing over it, he stumbled into the room on the other side, his gaze sweeping across the little enclosure.

It appeared to be...some sort of generator room, if the tables and monitors were anything to go by - though by the standards of the rest of the base, this part was actually relatively intact. Most of the equipment was was either off or dead, Gale supposed, but one still flashed feebly, its screen blinking in and out rather pathetically. He stepped towards it, absently running his fingers over the screen.

Runic cell required. What do you suppose that means?

<< Could be a variety of things, but I assume it has something to do with whatever this room was used for. >>

No s**t, Sherlock.

Jinhai sounded amused. << What? Not helpful enough? >>

Not in the least.

"You could tend to me, Mr. Jerry!" Stormy chirped, headset now in place. Seeing Gale and Dakota move on ahead (as well as others she didn't know popping), the trainee adjusted her outermost cost, waved to Kat and Melvin, and followed after the boys.

< < This feels as if we are investigating a corpse, > > Thane noted, though he was just as pleased to be out in the snow as she was. A mission to slaughter and retake was just the thing she needed to start toughening up and stop being so...her; he had nudged her to join after initial hesitation. Being in the arctic was what eventually had drawn her in.

I wouldn't say it like that. This place still looks pretty intact...

"Dakotaaaa, come in with us," she called to the moon Hunter with a gesture to get to the generator room where she was headed, spying his fiery weapon with open gratefulness. Maybe they could use it to clear the heavier parts of snow if open areas had gotten choked...She asked her partner if he could do something similar, but the retort was that unless she felt like exploding the building, it was best to maneuver around or let others do the dirty work.

Entering the room, she floated beside Gale to squint at the monitor. Her initial thought was runic cellphones, but that didn't make any sense..."Maybe a battery around here?" she suggested lightly, moving away to dust snow off a different machine. Everything looked solid, so maybe it was just a power outage or cut wire or something? The yetis apparently hadn't taken an interest.

Ami had her own reasons for being there. In the snow, in the cold- still in a skirt, mind you- but freezing her a** off. It wasn't to punch a polar bear in the face- quite frankly she could care less about recovering the base. No, it was an object in the base that mattered to her. If anyone asked, she had been ordered here.

The snow boots had been a nice addition. It was cold- too cold out here. Now she was sorely envying some of the fur hoods she'd been seeing around Deus. Her bed sounded rather nice at the moment.

It was nice to claim their own land back, too though. She'd admit to being rather sore about losing it the first time.

Her gaze went to Kat. Last time she'd been here, she was shivering barefoot with no clothes save for some spare parts from other hunters. Hopefully she'd be okay. Did she even remember this? From what Ami had been told, there were a few gaps in her memory now. "Ready?"

"Right."

I'm not alone...

There weren't enough volunteers here to be able to go in groups after all, and this wasn't a mission that had the main island's focused attention. It was surprising even to think a Sun was leading a mission in some way as it often seemed like Death in one way or another was helping out or Moon was asking to help recover someone. Usually they had some superior giving orders.

Not here.

Setting his folder down, he went to get his headset and frowned when he had to take off his earmuffs to put them on. Summoning his gun, he picked a hallway and slowly walked, pausing to look behind him at the others still milling about before turning and heading down a cold corridor.

It had been a while since he heard the crunch of snow under his heels and he breathed out, watching his breath plume before him. Everything had the hue of cold blue, white, and gray. It reminded him of the haunted house and house he hadn't won a single battle in his entire time here.

Shouldn't he feel more confident about fighting after all this time? When did he feel as energetic at the prospect of a fight as the others did? Was it just him that felt sick at the thought of being in a place where other people had died?

I'm not alone....

He looked around. It was quiet.

He was.

Entering a nearby room, he saw it was empty and full of frozen-over equipment. Stepping in, he moved over and scraped as much snow off with his gloves before hitting the layer of ice a few times until it shattered. Checking the screen, he noticed it was equipment of some sort. The screen at least was still on with a message of RUNIC CELL REQUIRED. Typical. At least they could go back and get one from the main island if they had to unless they could find the stock room. He doubted yetis ate runic batteries.

AN ANGRY POLAR BEAR APPEARED!

The adult male polar bear had followed the scent of living things to the base and was snuffling in the snow when Melvin startled it. It did the only thing that made sense in its territorial bear head. It attacked!

All you poor suckers with a headset

Melvin did not expect anything when stepping out of the generator room to see if he could find the stock room and get the generator started. It seemed quiet, and he was looking at the walls in hopes of seeing a map. "I found a generator of some sort. Did anyone find a stock roo - HOLY MO!!~~bzzt" The headset cut out, but for anyone nearby, a loud scream echoed down the frozen corridors.

Backing up till he hit the wall, he held Saliva out, hands trembling as he stared wide-eyed at what was clearly not a yeti. Melvin had seen polar bears only in warm enclosures in the zoo, behind glass and a mot, and with the reassurance that if it even did escape, there were people with tranquilizers to stop it.

This was not the zoo and he was looking at a ACTUAL ******** POLAR BEAR just hanging around in the hallway. If it was any place else, he would be awestruck at how beautiful it looked. How many people could say they saw a polar bear this close?

How many people GOT to say they could see a polar bear this close WHEN IT WAS ATTACKING YOUR FACE!!!

Another scream echoed distantly before the sound of plasma-fire sounded.

At the scream from Melvin, Rep leapt into action, he'd checked out the building plans before heading out on the mission and had at least a vague idea where the generator room was. It was easy to guess that the direction of the bloodcurdling scream was the real source of panic. He charged through the snow with a great deal of momentum, finally coming to a panting halt at the flash of plasma fire from the corridor.

When he saw it was a bear rather than a yeti, he looked completely nonplussed.

Just a normal animal.

"Kill it!" he barked encouragingly.

When Rep said he wasn't alone, he pretty much didn't believe that would matter. They had barely any numbers, and if an entire group of hunters who were experienced in this terrain had kicked the bucket, what chance did a island intermediate hunter have against anything? It still came, with great relief, that someone did show up. Even better, it was a Sun! Suns were built for killing, and Melvin waited for Rep to just dice the bear in half.

Instead, he was called upon to kill it!

"It's a ******** BEAR! YOU KILL IT!" He called out, ducking in time for the bear to swipe, it's claws hitting the metal wall before it leaned down to throw it's heavy weight on him.

Now pinned and seeing nothing but fur and and the pink maw lined with teeth, he held his hands out to press into the mass of fur where he believed the neck was. Heavy! SUPER HEAVY! He felt the wind crushed out of him and it was hard to even feel his body.

His gun was still in hand, and he shot into the neck again.

ImgonnadieImgonnadieI'mgonnadie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And all rep could do was be a ******** cheerleader! Melvin was going to come back as a ghost and forever haunt that man.
