Tal stopped as he hear Dagrun laugh, and couldn't help but smile at the sound. It was a little infectious, and he liked the way it came forth from her, and echoed around the trees. "I'm sorry. I didn't want to offend you, and I was being rather rude. Father told me to always be polite at first, and then as time progresses you can alter your speech patterns and even attitude around the acquired information of the person in which you are speaking, and then can determine based on that whether a more rigid formality is required or you can be more lax and open." As he had spoken, his body had unconsciously shifted to the proud and strong pose his father had always adopted when providing that speech to his young son, and he stopped himself when he realized that he was doing it himself. With a self-conscious laugh, he shook his head and dropped his shoulders into a more relaxed pose.

"Sorry. Spend so much time around someone, and apparently you start acting like them. I can certainly switch to a more congenial mode of speaking" He gave her a friendly smirk at his phrasing, and started walking forward again. "As for not knowing if I can control the elements or not, well, I never grew up around anyone like me. I didn't even know there were others like me. Mother and Father found me after a storm, and took me in. I couldn't remember anything about where I came from. All I had with me was this." He indicated with his beak the light blue jewel around his throat that seemed to glow with an internal light, and the pattern almost seemed to be slowly swirling, but it was hard to see especially when he was moving. "I didn't even know my own name. They took me in, and raised me like I was one of their own children. Mom used to tell me stories about when I was growing up, that it was really a magical charm to keep me safe, so that she wouldn't have to worry about me when I went out to explore, and I have always felt particularly close to it." He caressed the gem fondly with the tip of his beak, before continuing on.

"Father was always taking me out and showing me things, but they are earthbound, both mother and father. They didn't have wings, though once again they tried their best to teach me how to fly. At one point, when father was out, he found this wounded hawk and brought him to me, and in the end, he and I learned to fly together." Taltherick looked into the sky to see the familiar silhouette of the hawk far above. "No mater how many times I tell him he can leave, Tor'rok always stays somewhere nearby. He doesn't leave and I'm actually rather glad to have at least some other feathered friend." He shook his head, trying to clear his thought.

"Huh, listen to me, just blathering on about myself. I'm sure it's rather boring. To answer your question, yes, I know tons of my fathers stories. My favorite ones I know by heart, though I still like to hear him say them, even now when I am grown." He leaned over and said in a stage whisper, "And I think he rather still loves telling them."

Dagrun listened to the stallion, taking in all his words. She followed along beside him, nodding at times to show she was listening. When he indicated them gem, she looked at it with curiosity. She thought it reminded her of something. After he was finished, she smiled. "A storyteller never grows tired of telling tales. Besides, there's always a new lesson each time you hear the story."

She paused to look at her claw, flexing it after stepping on a rock. "That stone reminds me of something, though I do not recall what off hand. As for you not knowing whence you came, you do. You came from what sounds to have been a loving family, despite the hindrance of not having wings. They seem to have taught you well to the best they had."

She was satisfied with her inspection and continued walking. "I'm sorry that you do not know about your heritage...and I'd be happy to help you with that. I can answer any questions....I might also like to help you search for your heritage, if you like."

"Really? You think you've seen a stone like this before?! It could help me find where am from!" Though, at her next words, he walked in silence for a bit, contemplating them. And then spoke softly as the river came into view, though still a bit away. "I... actually hadn't thought of it in that way. The only parents I've known have been them. The only family I've known have been their children. The only home I've known is the thicket in which I was raised........ I guess, it really is the place I come from in a way." It had taken an outside perspective to see it, but the words sounded true. They had never treated him poorly for being different, and had never shunned him for not being theirs. That revelation just left him feeling rather like the world had snapped into focus, and all the colors were there to see where he had only been looking at it in black and while, and had never known what he was missing. and now, he had an idea. That revelation left him a bit stunned.
