Jude snorted, "Why you think I wear my cowl all the time? To protect my hair and my face and whatever else."
Silly Ariane. He wouldn't give in to fate that easily.
Despite her non-gentle nature he took it stoically enough. A missing strand of hair here and there was not something he was going to freak out about. Now if she came away with an entire chunk of hair? Then he'd worry.
At her question he sort of paused a little. A small flush of color came over his face as he shrugged a shoulder, "Even though you confuse me and irritate me a lot of the time...I admire your strength and how you apparently always know what you want. You're ... actually a good friend without trying to," he murmured. "Most others would have just given up on me by now."

"Cloth can't stop a blade, Judy," Ariane replied, rolling her eyes with a smirk; she had to wonder what he looked like with short(er) hair, but he would probably murder her for cutting it off... Tempting.
"Aw, how sweet," She chuckled, giving up for now as she let go of his hair; outwardly, she was amused at Jude's confession, but inwardly, she was actually rather touched. Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she leaned against his back, and peered at him with a grin, "You're not so bad yourself. You're mopey, but sentimental and good to your friends."Pales so desu it hurts omg this is desu level for ariane wat do my kokoro

Jude shrugged at her words, "Never said it'd stop a blade. Just protect it a little."
He was a little surprised when she wrapped her arms about his shoulders and leaned on him, and from the corner of his eye he had caught her grin. Jude gave her just a small smile, "I don't want to be mopey anymore, Ari. I really don't. It's tiring. Deadpan? Sure. I can do that. I just don't want to be sad anymore about where I am and what to do with myself."

"That's a good belated new year resolution. Mine is to touch more butts, and maybe be more open with my feelings. Is it working?" Ariane commented, giving Jude a light headbutt on the side of his head. She then let go of his shoulder, and sat down behind him in such a way that they were back-to-back, "I've got your back, you've got mine, right?"

Jude actually laughed a little, "Well you've touched my butt and you are being open. So you're doing good so far." He said quietly. Jude blinked at the headbutt and lightly nudged her in return. When she sat with him back to back he leaned on her lightly. This was probably the most physical contact he'd had with anyone.
Ariane had been one of the few that got him to stop tensing up every time someone invaded his personal space and now? It somehow felt lonelier when she wasn't near him.
Jude leaned his head to rest on her shoulder, "Right. Stuck with each other forever."
Should tell her you like her, hmm?, Yom input helpfully.
This was one of the few times he blatantly ignored the advice.
Give her huuuuuuuggggggssssss? Maybe kissesssss, she added even more helpfully.
No. Yom. No.

"You get butt of the year award," Ariane chuckled, picking up and tossing the hairbrush back into the bag; Jude's hair was messier now than before she messed with it, but at least she didn't accidentally yank out a fistful of hair or something, "For the butt that had endured the most hardship among all the eligible blonde males that I have touched to date."
She paused, turning her head slightly, one eyebrow raised, "Forever is a really long time."

Jude chuckled as she announced that he got the 'butt of the year' award, "Thanks I think. I'll accept the award with humility." He wasn't sure what the award was, probably more butt groping knowing Ariane.
His hair was a mess but he didn't care. Jude would probably care a lot more when it came time to brush out the mess.
The young man only smiled, genuinely smiled, at Ariane, "As long as it's forever with you, I find I don't mind that much."

For a long while, Ariane kept quiet, although the fact that she looked away meant that she had heard what Jude just said. Right now, she was thankful that they were facing opposite walls; there was no way that she would have been able to mask the look of surprise on her face... She wasn't sure how to feel.
Jude had successfully stunned her into silence with feels.
"Oh man, that gave me goosebumps," She finally replied as she rubbed her arms. Laughing, she forced herself to face Jude, offering him her usual grin, accompanied by a wriggle of her eyebrows, "You made it sound like we were getting hitched or something."

Jude was almost concerned when she went into silence like that. At least until she started speaking up again, giving her usual Ariane-charm to the whole situation.
Except the last part of what she said made his face erupt into a blush. His body tilted around a bit so he could face her, his eyebrow raised up, "I would think we would date a little first before we consider getting married, Ari. Trying to skip ahead of me already?"
Was he being serious? Was he just playing along with her?

"I would have to determine if you're dating material first, wouldn't I?" Ariane replied, "But bros don't date bros." It would be weird to see Jude - or any of her guy friends, really - as anything more than just a friend... Besides, she couldn't see herself being in a relationship involving a whole spectrum of new feelings.
Regardless of whether he was serious or not, she still found herself going 'nope nope nope nope nope nope'. Why ruin something like the friendship between them?

Jude rolled his eyes at her, "I am pretty sure no matter how much you want to pretend you're a 'guy', you're a girl. I don't kiss guys."
..Unless forced.
"I kissed you at least three times a while back." Jude pointed out with a shrug. There was a bit of a silent moment before he said, "Not that I don't consider you a close friend, Ari. You're probably one of the people that are closest to me."
Wait. Wait. Was he trying to talk her into dating him now?
At this point Jude refused to backpeddle.

"Girl, guy, however people choose to identify themselves... Doesn't matter," Ariane retorted, unsure of how they went from braiding hair to... This. Whatever this discussion was, "Friends don't date friends. s**t usually happens - especially since we're pretty tight. See, that's the reason why Jeremy and I could remain friends for so long."
Because friends don't date friends.
"Besides, that was hardly a kiss, much less three," She scoffed, "We were just trying to outdo each other."

"You get points for identification argument but I am not letting you have the 'friends don't date friends' argument." Jude replied matter-of-factly. He wasn't going to let Ariane get away with that one, not ever. "There are a lot of couples that started off as friends and even consider each other the very best of friends and they are just fine. Your logic is false."
Jude wasn't sure why he was trying so hard to argue this. Not sure at all. Other than he was often trying to compete with Ariane in one way or the other.
Arguing was a way of competing right?

"Oh, and what do you think happens if they break up?" She argued back, arms folded across her chest; she was clearly unable to see the logic in Jude's argument, "Some friend-couples do work, I'll give you that much, but that's them." Not her.

"Depends on the people involved I guess. I don't know." Jude muttered sitting up now so he could just ruffle his hands through his hair.
He glanced back at her and shook his head, "So? That could be u--.."
Jude felt as if someone punched him in the gut. What was he saying? Did he really want this? Would Ariane want this? She was fighting against it so hard in either case.
He stood up and shrugged his shoulders, "We could work if we both wanted it. That's all I am saying. All relationships take two people, don't they? I mean..."
