ryruko Alex Trevell I'll sometimes make characters, but I tend to favor using characters I've already made that fit similar roles, and try to further develop them if possible. Also, I'd love to do rp's with people, but they mostly get ignored by more popular things and I can't try out most of my more unique ideas. I can see how that could definitely work for someone. To each his own I suppose. That's a shame. See, a unique story and set-up would be the very thing that would get me to join an RPG. I think the freshness of a story is it's most attractive aspect. This also comes in the way of characterization. So many people stick to repeated characters that you see everywhere. Even their relationships and back stories are the same gonk That's what I am more interested in talking about. The characters and new ideas for them. The characters make the story. The literally do! Interesting characters write interesting stories for themselves and in doing so make the whole RP more unique and exciting! For the most part, I fix up the characters back story to fit the rp, and I tend to try using characters I don't use so often if I can. Considering my characters don't see much action outside of the few rp's I do, it's still a fairly unique experience each time. I have enough characters to mix things up, I have over 13. So there's never a dull moment when I do join an rp, until said inactivity.

You are so welcome! I am more than happy to talk or pray anytime. The least I can do is share my faith and my willingness to help in prayer. So I thank you as well for your kind words! Yes!!! They were! Hey Arnold! Recess! Doug! you name it, I watched it! Haha, I don't know much about pokemon (remember the 90's kids conversation, I stopped watching it not long after) but your ideas sound interesting! I am always up for a modern or futuristic RP any day of the week!!! Characters are my favorite part too. I love the idea of making new and interesting characters for RPGs, the more interesting the cast, the better the story! Ah, I see. I suppose that the GMPC could also fill the role of a minor character if they so wished but that would be tad over-complicated. I have always played in similar RPGs to the example you just mentioned. One of the founding players (though never identified as a GMPC) would center the plot on their exploits and leadership, thus creating the same kind of environment. I suppose the difference between the two is the possibility for leadership roles to change. Yeas, that makes sense. A good GMPC would add drive and direction to the story without overshadowing the other players. I like the glass cannon concept too! I tend to make my characters weaker or untalented, they are usually more realistic and more interesting to play that way. I agree with you on that. The open-ended story sounds much more exciting especially without the GMPC not playing a major role in the game. I think with a good enough group of players, that unpredictability could make the best story. Roger that! I look forward to it! I will make sure to check back often. I am sure you get plenty of exciting new stories with each character that way. It is similar to the person who plays their own personality within the RPG. Even though the character is the same, their stories and positions could probably change drastically. The only difference is that you have more adaptability, you can choose the "You" you want to be each time. Have you ever had a hero character turn out as a villain over the course of an RP? See, I think that would be great if it was executed properly. Well, if we of this thread decide to team up on an RPG (or maybe a couple) I am sure we wont have to deal with the dreaded inactivity! mrgreen

You're most welcome! :3
To be honest I never really liked Hey Arnold or Recess growing up. I do have a new found respect for Hey Arnold, which I did prefer over Recess. Another one, if I recall correctly..Pepper Ann. I think it was in the '90s but I could be wrong. That was an okay show.
As for Pokemon, I barely watched it. My mom never let me till I was older 'cause she was all "MONSTERS NO!!!!" .. I only keep up by playing the games, which I absolutely love.
Speaking of monsters.. AHHH! Real Monsters! is another favorite of mine. <3
Heehee! Anyway, perhaps we could discuss what you have for ideas for an rp? I always have time for another rp. ^- ^

Pepper Ann! I loved that show! It looks like the same animation as Codename: Kids Next Door right? Haha, I was the reverse of that. My mom wouldn't let me watch AHHH! Real Monsters but I was allowed to watch all the pokemon I wanted. I just grew out of it as I grew into (sorry Poke-fans) real anime. Haha! Yes! Side discussion aside. I have no real ideas for an RP at present but I could always help brainstorm for one. My favorite genre's are action, mystery and science fiction. I guess you could say that I prefer more serious plots. So any story I can come up with will likely contain Rogue AI (ooooh just writing it gets me excited!), detectives and characters with unknown motives. I would love to get a project going with the members of this thread. (Though we would probably need to start a new discussion for that) What are your favorite genres? Are there any major turn offs/ons for you in an RPG

Uuuuu! I *love* KND! Yes you are correct. c:
I'm open to just about anything, except gory, creepy things. But, I highly doubt you're into that, lol! My faves are mostly non-fiction, rescues, neko people fighting demons, things that most epic animes contain. Soul Eater for example. My profile has Naga's back story on it. I've never actually done a mystery rp before. Perhaps we could make a scientific mystery? Like, a secret lab deep in a jungle or desert, one that experiments with DNA fusion (cue the neko people, lol!).

Yes it was the greatest! Especially the Star Wars Themed episodes! It ended too soon though. You are absolutely correct! No gore, horror or excessive violence for me, thank you. I don't want anything to do with obscene content at all. Non-fiction? How do you Role Play non-fiction? whee Rescues, now that could be neat if one avoids excessively repeated material. Yes, I like a more anime based roleplay, the problem is that most anime aren't based on the things I like. Those are all good ideas, DNA Lab mystery huh? We could definitely work with that! Though I must say, I don't know how to feel about neko people. Haha, maybe I have just never seen a good roleplay version of that theme. It's still interesting though! blaugh

Am not a big fan of Star Wars, since my ex uncle tried to ram it down my throat. But I appreciate the jokes, like when Family Guy did their parody, or Robot Chicken.
I agree, though I am a fan of demon hunting rps. Kind of like InuYasha style, which is also what I base "neko people" on. Just a person with animal ears, but they only have demon-like abilities depending on the rp. Like, for the science/mystery one, my char's DNA would be fused with, say a wolf, or fox (I prefer canines, haha!) and she would simply have that animal's ears along with better sense of smell and hearing, and prolly good at tracking. To be honest, I wouldn't know what else to do, unless we did a thing where they give their subject superhero-like powers. Or, maybe we could do robotics instead of DNA fusion.

Oh yeah! See it sounds much more interesting now that you explained your ideas a bit more. I like the genetic augmentation idea too. Yeah! I could do something like that. I used to think that RPGs had to be based on super-power wielding characters to be interesting (which is true for the most part) but I find that there ideas that don't require elements of fantasy. Like a detective roleplay, a traditional cop vs. killer or even espionage and political intrigue can all be interesting starts for stories. It gets even better when you start out with a plot like one of those that can stand on its own feet without supernatural elements and add in some fantasy and sci-fi bits to liven it up. You have some great opinions! I guess that's what's best about this discussion. We can play with new ideas and ask others for their input.

Yeah, I sometimes assume people know what I'm talking about right off the bat. Kinda takes me a few to realize I need to explain more. Thankfully, I'm not like that when I Rp though!
I have to agree with you there. It's nice to have some power or super strength or speed like Sonic the Hedgehog. It definitely makes the RPGs more attractive, along with a few decent races, something other than humans, because they can be pretty limited without powers. But then again, in RPGs like Pokemon, you have a creature doing all the elemental work, taking care of fighting, finding hard to see items, and the like (both in rps and rp games). See when you say RPG I instantly think games. RPG/MMO/MMORPG, such as Elsword or Ether Saga Odyssey or Dragon Knights, just to name a few. Not sure if you'd count League of Legends, but, then again it seems like it would fit. (Just me derping out again <. >)
Thank you! c: I've got a lot in my mind for good Rps. Possible ninja clans in wars with each other or each region, Vampire against Vampire, wolf-like people being chased out of their territory and having a couple members figure out why..a lot of things, and a lot of them cliche..
I guess my next question is, will this be a 1 one 1 or well we make a thread within the guild? 1 one 1 is my preference, just for the simple fact that I'm already in a few Soul Eater Rps on my Death the Kid-ette name, and I can't progress until others have posted, and one of them has been gone for a couple months. It's a bit frustrating. Don't get me wrong, I'm the first person that comes to mind when the reason is that real life hits, but if you're gone for a few months, that pretty much tells me you're not gonna be back anytime soon. That especially bothers me when it happens to an Rp I'm crazy about because it's going on amazingly.
Wow I talk to much.. o. O;;

It's funny you talk about personality, because I made a character of myself to fit into the world I created for my characters XD I'm one of the weakest, but I have my own traits and skills aside from the others.

They each have their own mannerisms that come to life, and all respond to different situations according to their own experiences.

Yeah! Because who wants an RP that;'s just like normal life...that's what normal life is for! It does make them more interesting to play and even more interesting to create stories for. Haha, there is no need to worry about you derping out. It's fine. I just use whatever name the other members of the conversation are using to avoid confusion. Thank you! c: I've got a lot in my mind for good Rps. Possible ninja clans in wars with each other or each region, Vampire against Vampire, wolf-like people being chased out of their territory and having a couple members figure out why..a lot of things, and a lot of them cliche.. Those do sound interesting. Cliche does necessarily mean "bad" it actually can mean that its more player accessible or easier for the majority of people to get into. The trick is taking a familiar set up and filling it with unique twists and turns. There are loads of people who would love those ideas! blaugh Well, it probably wont be decide here. I believe that this is more a discussion and isn't used for launching a new Role Play. Just sharing our ideas, talking about themes and characters and such. If you are looking to start a roleplay within the guild you should post an OOC thread in the designated area and start from there. After you have built your role play in the OOC you can launch it properly wherever Nights Rune designates as the RP area. I will ask her next time I get the chance! biggrin Oh yes I agree about the lack of posts and disappearing acts done by players. Hopefully than can be resolved to some extent by some of the people here. Ysavvryl was just talking about GMPCs that will help keep the RP moving no matter the difficulties with other characters. A God Modder could definitely be the answer to some of your worries. I have never actually done I one-on-one. The least amount of players I have ever played with has been two not counting myself.

Another idea popped into my head. Have you ever seen the show Yukon Men? Basically a couple families live in Alaska, away from any cities or towns, and they have to fend for themselves. They have to hunt, make their own clothes, be their own doctor and vet, build equipment and repair it themselves, ect. I believe that would be a pretty cool thing to base an rp off of, a survival rp if you will. I enjoy those too.
Indeed, that makes sense, haha! Well, I will send you a PM after this post. ^-^
One-on-one isn't that bad as far as replying in a proper time frame, but there are some cases where it can get dull, depending on the person. I've had quite a few of those, where the other person only had one or two sentences, or even a huge run-on!

Well discussing a game to start is still discussing role-playing, so I don't think it's too off-topic myself. Details might be better off in their own thread, to keep down on clutter. I tend to play fantasy oriented stories myself, or ones with supernatural things going on. I can also do soft sci-fi (since it's practically fantasy, with SCIENCE!). Had a tragedy game going once, but it was kind of hard to keep up; tragedy is depressing to write, after all.
If you do a mystery game, it could help to have someone arranging a plot behind the scenes. Otherwise, it would be a lot of fumbling around and making stuff up on the go. Not that making stuff up on the go is bad, haha, but good mystery writing usually takes extra effort. But it's all about fun in the end, I believe.
