Phoebe watched as Kaysar tripped and fell in front of her. She hurried her pace and caught up to him as he tried to recover. "Are you alright?" she asked in a worried voice. The ground around them was becoming more and more unstable and it was imperative that they get off the mountain now. If he had hurt his foot, or his leg and couldn't run, she would have to try and lift them both with her wings, and fly them down the mountain.

"Yes," he said. "I'm fine." He stood up, gingerly putting weight on the foot that had got caught. He winced, his ankle throbbing. "We should keep moving." He looked to the top of the mountain to judge the lava flow. Running east didn't seem to have helped much, but at least they'd managed to reach an area where the lava flow was a bit slower. "Perhaps we should start heading down the mountain now, I think that might be our best chance to outrun the lava now." Kaysar started down the mountain, limping slightly on his injured ankle.

Phoebe had to agree with his assessment, so she followed closely behind him as they ran down the mountainside. She could tell that his foot was bothering him from the way he limped every so often as they ran across the rough landscape. However, they were making good progress, and putting a good bit of distance between themselves and the flow of lava. The volcano had yet to truly erupt though. For the moment, all it was doing was burping like a young medaria.

Kaysar's ankle hurt more with every step, and he couldn't tell if they were making good time or not. He didn't want to look over his shoulder, the last time he'd do that he wound up with an injury. He silently cursed himself, it was not like him to worry about other medaria. "Perhaps you should go on ahead of me," he said. "I am certain that I'm just slowing you down at this point. I should be find the rest of the way, it seems as though the volcano is not going to erupt in full and this lava flow is fairly small." He wasn't sure what had possessed him to tell her to leave. Maybe he truly liked this medaria and didn't want to see her hurt on his account.

Phoebe was worried. She was pretty sure that he was in pain, or he wouldn't suggest she go on without him. Granted, they seemed to be out of danger, but that could change at any moment. There was no way she would run ahead of him, and leave him to make his way down the mountain by himself, not in his current condition. "You're doing no such thing. Don't forget, I can fly away at any time if I wanted to, so don't feel that you are holding me back. Besides, if it comes to it, I can always try to carry you down the mountain. It shouldn't be too hard, considering we'd be going down, and I could simply glide all the way. Why don't we slow our pace for a bit? If something happens, we can always speed up again."

He slowed his pace, and though his ankle still throbbed with every step, it wasn't as bad. "I suppose that's true, I really needn't worry about your safety then. However.. I must ask why you haven't left already. Surely you could have flown to the bottom faster and would be safe by now, so I see no reason why you would stay with a stranger and risk injury." He glanced at her, curious as to her reasoning.

Phoebe thought about that for a moment before answering his question. Would he not stay for her if he had the chance to get away faster than she? She wanted to believe that he would. Just as she would not leave him in danger now. It was not in her nature to abandon a fellow medaria, even if they didn't know each other well. "I could not leave you to face this danger alone and still live myself later. It is true, I could definitely have flown to safety by now, but then I would have to live every waking moment, wondering if you had made it safely down. And if you didn't, I would forever blame myself for leaving you to save my own life. My safety has never been in question this whole time Kaysar. My ability to fly away guarantees that, but if my staying with you can in any way ensure your safety, than I will gladly remain with you, and see you to safety." She walked up to him slowly and ever so gently, placed her head against his shoulder.

"I suppose.. that is true enough. I had not thought about it in that manner. It seems problematic to live life with something like that hanging over your head. I don't often get myself into situations like this, so I can't it is something I have thought about much." He jumped slightly as she lay her head against his shoulder, the contact unexpected. He looked away, blushing lightly. He had never been this close to another medaria before. "I-I think the ground has begun to shake less, perhaps the volcano will not truly erupt after all."

She felt him jump the moment she touched him with her head and wondered if she had overstepped the bounds of a first date. It was true, the lava flow did seem to be lessening, so perhaps they could slow their descent now. She pulled away from him enough to make him feel comfortable in her presence again and said, "I believe you may be right about the volcano, but let us not take any chances. We should probably still get off the mountain, we just don't need to rush and possibly injure ourselves. I know of a nice place we can find something to eat when we reach safety."

Kaysar slowed his pace again, and dared a glance over his shoulder at the mountain. Although there was still lava flowing, it seemed to be moving slower. They also seemed to have picked a spot on the mountain where it was flowing the slowest, which seemed to be lucky for them. His ankle still hurt, but the pain had dulled a lot. "I dare say this was a good spot for our descent, the lava does not seem to be flowing in this direction as quickly as the others." He gazed up at the peak for a few more seconds, then look back at Phoebe. "What sort of place do you propose we go, I do believe we have not quite had our date yet." - quote taken out- FEBRUARY POINTS

"Oh, it's a nice meadow, with some very juicy berry plants. And if we're lucky, we might just be able to catch ourselves a tasty rabbit too. If you can make it to the bottom of the mountain, it's not too far from there." She was hoping he would not take the opportunity to leave, since their date at the hot springs had been interrupted by the volcano. She very much wanted to spend more time with him, and get to know more about him.

"I think I should be able to make it there, so long as you do not expect me to sprint. After all this mountainous terrain, a flat meadow would be quite welcome." He was still limping a little, but much of the pain had subsided. He slowed his pace a little, to allow her to walk in front of him. He turned to her and flashed a charismatic smile. "Shall we? Please, lead the way."

Phoebe walked around him and led the way down the slope. As they got closer to the base of the mountain, the advance of the lava retreated further behind them. He had been correct in his judgement that by taking this path down, they were out of danger from the lava flow. Later she would take to the air and fly over the devastated landscape to see just how much damage had been done. She had friends who lived in the path of the flow, and she wanted very much to find them, and make sure they were alright. They'd been on the mountain now for quite a while, and the sun was now on its way down in the afternoon sky, but they were almost to the base of the mountain, and it would be easier going for Kaysar. She was worried about his injured foot, but he seemed to think it was not serious. For his sake, she hoped so. An injured foot for one of their kind could mean a life of hardship if the foot didn't heal correctly.

Kaysar followed behind Phoebe at a leisurely pace, it was nice to catch his breathe after the life threatening experience. The sun had begun to set and long shadows were being cast, it was easy to forget what had just happened, and he found himself not wanting to look at the devastation behind him. Also, he found himself very much sick of this hard, rock terrain. He missed the shifting grains of sand he was used to, or at least the plush feel of the grass. "So whereabouts do you come from? I admit I am not up in this area much, preferring to spend my time closer to the water. Such.. solid ground is quite a different experience for me."
