This was working. She couldn't even see shadows ahead of her. She disregarded the painful silence that came once the Voice had given up. She was taking each painful step with a loud thump, slamming her slippered feet down and pushing her heavy body up.
It could feel her coming, she thought. It knew she wasn't going to stop.
It was scared.
Riley's face lifted in lieu of a smile.

The Voice made her pause this time, and for a moment she stopped. But something was drawing her ever onwards, and that was stronger than any more promises from whoever or whatever the Voice was.
She'd given up too much, had been wanting, so now she would persevere.
Riley actually had to stop and take a breath after that one. Her lungs hurt from the exertion, and she remembered what it felt like to over-stress her physical body.
It felt good.

The Voice came again, and Riley did not stop this time. Even as she took another heavy step forward, her face lifted in absolute victory, as the beads of sweat fell from her face. It promised her only disappointment as she struggled to reach the top. Did the Voice not realize that there was nothing to disappoint? Reaching the final of a challenge was the reward in and of itself.
But. Killing the Voice would be nice, too.

What would happen if you got some kind of carpet and started from this stair, stair 190, and just used the stairs as some kind of twisted slide.

I am going to make it It was a desperate thought and she was only half believing it, but she still she dragged herself onwards, painfully and slowly. It was hurting to carry on, but she did.
She could almost . . . sense the desperation in the Voice now, and having climbed 225 stairs, she took a pause, breath a little ragged and lungs burning from the constant movement. Listening to the words - in her head she assumed - she thought it over, eyebrows knit.

I will still him from you.
She thought out loud after a moment, giving a silent growl as she ascended again.
