Jason hadn't known what to expect, but to see that Riyo had grabbed his blade in his bare hands, it was safe to say he was rather shocked by this. And when he looked into her eyes, all he could see where the eyes of one who was not afraid to die. Her words spoke the truth of this, and before he could react there was a switchblade going right for the chest. It hit with deadly accuracy, and in a lame attempt to keep her at bay he swung his own blade at her face.
"Then so be it!" He had no worries now. This was not some lost lady, but a foe he must kill. But already he had taken a grave hit, would he be even be able to defend himself?

Scarlett grimaced as another stray bullet pelted her, but didn't stop her advance. She was closing in right behind Bastion, ignoring the rage of a man shouting out somewhere to her side.
She couldn't stop, what if the next bullet killed her?
She let fly another small spell in Ying's direction, another air bullet, but knew her nerves were getting in the way of proper casting. It wouldn't hurt much.

It was a cruel fate. the battlefields was vast and open, the outskirts of the area were swarmed with people that flocked in the hundred and banners all around being held. Shade of shimmering gold and brilliant reds and hues of earthy green to be seen. the blue was more subdue to the clothes on their backs. One back in particular was a beacon that felt too far away to grab.
He didn't want to be this far away from here, the regret of scolding Ying for her action and seeing her run off weighted Jing down. She was still too far away for his tastes, the girl needed to be by his side. "Hold on, I'll be right there!" he called back, weaving past the skirmish in his way and moving closer. "It's too early, don't you start giving up yet, save your apologies when we get out of here!" he announced from his spot behind two duelers, one that tried to lop his head off with the opening.
He didn't want the last thing he heard from Ying's lips to be that she was sorry.
The man who was hitting her, the rage that fell on him was thick and heavy. "What matters is nothing but your swift and timely Death!" he cured loudly struggled to move closer. that man, he had no HONOR.

Yes, she had connected, and well. That would teach him to let his guard down just because he was around the fairer sex. His retaliation would've hit worse had she not ducked back, only acquiring a scratch to her face.
After a moment, it began to drip with blood. "So how many have you slaughtered, boy? How many have fallen at the hands of your blade?" Her second lunge was distracted by her own question, an easy hit to dodge.

The battlefield was such a messy business. So imprecise, so chaotic. So impossible to focus on any one thing, with so many delights occurring in every direction. Malodore did not dive into the fray, no - instead, it surveyed the field, eyes glinting behind its smoked lenses as it took in the many exciting possibilities. It was wary, oh yes... it would wait until something tempting appeared.

Holding the side where the blade blade had struck him, Jason heard her question but focused more on the incoming attack. Thankfully a easy one to dodge. His right leg pushed off the ground and allowed him to side-step her second lunge, and also gave him a chance at a opening.
With the sword in his right hand, he slashed at her exposed back, now finding the time to answer her question. "I have not slain anyone with my sword, nor do I wish to do so. But if my lands are to be saved, then it is the only way. I cannot let my soft-heart stop me from defending our kingdom. "
Jason wondered if she saw the way his hand shook as he held the sword, ready for the next attack.

It was beginning to look more like a battle (except for that part where Bastion was recklessly taunting the angry siblings) and Scarlett knew she needed to take advantage of the confusion.
The small break gave her a moment to gather her nerves and she let loose a spell that was stronger than those before it, both from concentration and a new found calm. A small explosion, like a tiny missile, set off on Ying and she hoped that is would distract her from Bastion and his recklessness for just a moment.

It was perhaps a very bad idea to be one of the first from her kingdom to reach the battlefield. Unfortunately, just like Shun, she had an objective. It would be difficult, and she knew she might have to wade through death after death before she found it. So she had set off early, and when she entered the battlefield, her eyes followed the faces of fighting. There was already blood on the floor, and screams in the air. She took a deep, cleansing breath.
It felt so good.
She stormed through, going so far as to walk right through a fight or two, as she looked for something that, in her kingdom, might have been difficult to find. But she saw no sign of the plague doctor, and its telltale mask. She was focused on looking for red, but in the end, it was almost impossible to find it.
So instead, she looked for her first victim. Her hands itched, and Shun had probably killed three people by now.. she had to keep up.

Now that the King no longer has need of her, she has chosen to abandon her spiritual purity and take up arms to protect her beloved Kingdom. She's just regular ol' Riley now. Be warned.
