Jordan studied Rep's face, puzzled. The nightmares - had they also seen that empty place, the city with no people, the evidence of Jordan's failure as a leader? But why would that have made Harrison angry at Rep? It didn't make sense. Or had they seen something else, some nightmare made specifically for them? "Don't worry," he said quietly, a guess, a shot in the dark. "He'd understand."

Rep frowned a little more deeply. "I dunno. I just. Did you get the dream things? What did you dream?" he almost hoped it was the same as him, a weight off his shoulders of this horrible burden he'd been carrying around. He didn't think either of them would understand what would drive him to sacrifice them, even he didn't.

Jordan's expression went distant and haunted as he remembered the dream, the echoing sense of emptiness and loneliness and devastation. "I failed," he said quietly. "I lost, and everyone who depended on me vanished. Died. I was left behind so I would know what I'd done before my own death."
Ferros stirred, distressed. I did not want to ...
I know. It was - comforting that it was you. If it had to be anyone.

There was a twist of guilt as Jordan's dream differed from his own, he had failed too ultimately, but the death and finality had been a relief from his mistake rather than an unpleasant experience. He wrung his hands and looked at the floor. "The dreams were messed up, if dreams even what they were."
He evaded offering his own experiences.

Jordan stroked his thumb across Rep's knuckles, shaking off the memory of the dream. Rep wasn't offering the details of his own dream; Jordan didn't ask. Not now. Maybe later, once they weren't both so fragile.
"Insanity," he said. "It does weird things to your head."

Rep nodded quietly, relaxing under Jordan's reassurances. "Aye." Dreams of dissatisfaction in a perfect world crept to mind, the nightmares that had gotten into his head last time they ran into insanity on the island. Maybe it had been like that, a twisted game with his psyche. Still, it didn't help him with his self doubts, the idea that maybe he'd be a coward when it counted, maybe he'd condemned Harrison to this.
"I just hope his dreams are better."

"If he's dreaming," Jordan agreed, watching Harrison's face, "I hope they're good dreams." He sighed. "We'll keep an eye on Killer for him till he wakes up." He wasn't even going to consider any other possibility. He might be putting blinders on himself, but sometimes, he thought guiltily, you needed to do that to stay sane.

Rep nodded, he sincerely hoped that was the case, Insanity - if that's what it was - was capable of the most horrific sort of nightmares, ones he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy let alone someone he was engaged to. He blinked and raised a brow at Jordan, that was right! He hadn't even considered Killer, that would have been beyond disastrous to have him wake up and Killer to be ill or worse from neglect. More than ever he realised how much he needed Jordan.
"Maybe we can bring him by to say hello, anything's worth trying."
