“That will be easy. We’ll just knock on people’s doors until we find somebody that has one.” She said, as if bothering the neighbours for various tools was a common occurrence for her. “Maybe we can find some blankets to act as a net as well, just in case it falls. Unicorn magic isn’t very reliable when we’re still young.” Pink Lemonade started trotting along, heading for the first house she could see and expecting Hydrangea to fall in step beside her. Cirrus watched them all go and then settled down under the tree, peering up into the branches. When the kitty meowed again, he started talking to it, telling it all about clouds and tea reading and what cats meant in all sorts of superstitions. He hoped his voice would help it relax.

Hydrangea tilted his head and looked at her. "Uummm I don't know if thats a good idea.... people might be annoyed.. or not wanting to give a ladder to one little colt and filly. Probably say its way too dangerous for us to be playing with a ladder." he paused, trying to think of where they might find one without having to bother anyone. Did his parents have one? He couldn't really recall.... "Don't suppose your family has one either, do they...?" The idea of blankets as nets was a good idea though. "I know where we can get a blanket." he nodded. They could use his own..... as long as they didn't tease him for it.

FP nodded when Raspberry introduced herself, waiting for her to catch up before he continued trotting along. He'd never heard of a deal like that before and come to think of it, that sounded pretty amazing! "Five Dollar Fiestarita Night? That sounds awesome. If he's not awake now, I should drop by later to ask your dad if he can tell me a few stories. I've gotta be the best, so any recipes will help me out." The little colt really did want to practice and now he was definitely glad he'd gotten to talk to this girl.

PL gave Hydrangea an unimpressed look. “You remind me of your brother. Lullaby is a bit of a sissy too.” She said with a little sigh. “Look, you need to be bolder. Nobody will mind us asking. I’d hardly say we’d be bothering anyone.” She gave a confident toss of her head. “We do have a ladder at my home, but it’s on the other side of town, so that’s why we’re going to ask some nice people if we can borrow theirs. If you want, you can wait out on the street while I go ask. Then we’ll go get the blanket.”

Hydrangea tilted his head ant let out a sigh. He saw nothing wrong with Lullaby.... he wouldn't call wanting to be cautious a sissy though.... "Ok... if you insist." he said. "But you can do the talking.... I'll just... stand there and look cute." he said softly, hanging his head low and trotting after her.

Bohemian Raspberry grinned and nodded back at the colt. "I bet he'd be totally willing to talk to you about drinks; he already showed me how to whip up Shirley Temples and Roy Rogerses, and he says when I'm older he'll let me play with whatever's in the liquor cabinet, plus use the colored rim sugar that my mom bought him!" Boho was vaguely aware that in most families, fillies and colts were kept far away from whatever the adults were talking about. But her family was really open about things- whenever she had questions, her parents always answered them honestly and didn't try to obfuscate the truth from their kids. "We're almost back home now; here, we're turning up at this corner- that's my place right ahead. C'mon!" she said, breaking into a faster jog

"Woah, really? I've only gotten practice with regular drink mixes like punch and lemonade, but I'd love to get into more advanced stuff. " Fruit Punch was glad he'd gotten to meet someone new today but especially someone who might be able to help him with his future career. Maybe they could even be friends? When Boho said to pick up the pace because they were getting close to her house he nodded, trotting along right beside her.

“Good idea.” PL didn’t even realise she might have said anything to hurt his feelings and she continued trotting along, leaving him at the gate when they reached the first house. She strode straight up to the door and knocked without hesitation. In the first house they didn’t have a ladder (‘who didn’t own a ladder?’ she scoffed afterwards) and nobody was home at the second house. The owners of the third house didn’t seem enthusiastic about loaning a ladder out to a bunch of kids and PL eventually gave up, but not without a good deal of pouting. . They continued on and then she spotted a large building that she’d only stepped into once; the library! Perfect! “Look Hyd! They always have ladders in libraries. We’ll go in and ask.”

Hyd flattened his ears when she agreed but he couldn't really say anything. After all, he had said himself so the little bit of a sting was his own fault. He followed along after her, wanting, or rather wishing that he hadn't been right. No one seemed enthused about lending ladders to ponies. And when she mentioned the library he looked at her again. "But, those are usually... on wheels and attached to the book stands aren't they?" he tilted his head. Or was that only in large fancy libraries? And would they even lend them one when simple house folk hadn't? He shrugged. It had to be worth a shot, hadn't it? "We can try, no harm in asking I suppose."

“Well maybe they have some that don’t have wheels.” PL shrugged and led the way inside. The library was nice, PL thought. Nice enough for a library anyway. It was just a shame it was so quiet and kind of boring. The only books she cared about reading were ones with recipes in them. “Hellooooo.” She called out, her voice breaking the natural hush of the building. “Library attendant person please attend at the front!”

As soon as Pink Lemonade's call rang through, the already hushed atmosphere turned dead silent. All heads turned to the front, where the two foals stood, but there seemed to be no one behind the counter. At least, until a dark and messy mane rose enough to show two purple eyes glaring down a pair of glasses from beneath the counter. It lifted up, a particularly unhappy earth phony's head, and he rested his chin on the counter to glance between the colorful babbens. "What?" he whispered harshly, brows settling into a deeper glare while his lips curled into a sneer, "Keep it down." It was such a slow, quiet day before this. He was just trying to eat his lunch in peace without having to clock out so he wouldn't get a pay cut for time lost.

If anything, PL’s smile grew wider when faced by the librarians scowl. "Excuse me, sir. As we speak there is little cat stuck up a tree that needs our help. We were hoping to borrow once of your ladders, if you have one to spare." She stared at him expectantly. They’d struck out a few times already and she was going to do her best on this one. She wouldn’t be convinced to leave easily.

Hyd glanced at the gloomy looking pony as he whispered quite harshly and LP seemed to just jabber on like always. He scuffed his hooves together quietly and looked around, trying to avoid contact. He felt out of place but it was their last option to find a ladder..... Of course, watch now that everyone was gone, the cat would come down for Cirrus or something. "Pretty....please?" he squeaked in a whisper.

Gloom rested a hoof against his cheek to prop his head up while listening to the two foals. They were seriously pulling the cat stuck in a tree card? His eyes narrowed further with bemusement and the already light frown crossing his lips deepened. "What guarantee do I have that you'll bring it back? Or that you aren't just going out to break your little necks?" It was entirely possible, whether the kids intended it or not, that they could injured through the use of the ladder. Worse, the resulting injury from the unsupervised use of a library ladder would come back to bite him in the butt and possibly cost him his job. Or, at least, a considerable fine if the ladder wasn't returned. (Sorry this took me a while guys, I had a busy week!)

“You have my word.” Pink Lemonade answered quickly and clearly. “But if necessary I’ll leave Hydrangea here with you as collateral.” The librarian didn’t seem to be the cheeriest of fellows but she decided to put that down to his having to work in a library. “You don’t need to worry about our well-being either. We’ll be very careful… and you’re welcome to accompany us and watch the rescue procedure if you’re concerned.” She gave him a very serious look. “There is a kitty cat in need right now sir. This is important.”
