"No" Was his simple response, what else was he supposed to say? He had never found comfort in company, or a need for it, other stars bothered him, where these the things to admit to? No he felt not and as his reply hung in the air he looked down at the ground and let out a sigh, she wasn't leaving... and he wasn't hostile just... grumpy.

"Blade... Blade Ion, Surusumi... that's... unusual" That sounded like something a normal star would say, he;d over heard plenty of conversation but always observed. He'd asked because it was true to him... his name might be strange to some just as hers was to him.

::It is a bit strange, isn't it?:: she giggled. ::I guess I'm just used to it by now. I heard there was someone famous with the same name who lived a long time ago. I guess he was in a big race to win control over some lands. No one knows if he won or not...::

She shrugged and absentmindedly began to munch on the tree's leaves. Between mouthfuls, she asked, ::What about your name? It sounds sorta... mysterious. And fierce!::

It wasn't intentional that his gaze shifted to the side as she asked about his name, simply that it triggered something unconsciously that he was definitely not comfortable with. However she had asked and he felt no hesitance in responding regardless of his body language suggestion he'd rather talk about anything or preferably nothing rather than his name.

"I wouldn't know. It was chosen by my rider." Then for the first time in their encounter something had sparked his interest or just mentally seen an opportunity to move onto another subject. The mostly black bird like stallion asked a question and one he was almost interested in hearing the answer to "Do you race?" Blade was unsure it seemed if her reference to a big race had meant literal or not, but that was what his mind had gone to and that was something that he could talk about... if he could remember.

She turned and looked out across the water as she let the memories wash over her. Although she rarely shared this part of her past with anyone, Surusumi had the strange urge to share it with Blade Ion. But, she also did not want to overshare and scare away the skittish stallion, as the handsome stranger finally seemed to be interested in talking. She settled on a simple reply.

::I used to race, quite a while ago, but I just don't like it. Everyone gets so worked up about the competitions - the riders, the ridden -- it's just stressful for no reason. Running quickly is supposed to be fun. I only race for fun now, with friends.:: She smiled at him. ::What about you?::

"I did." He raised a sceptical brow before coming to the conclusion that she had shared... and he'd broached the subject which meant that reply simply wouldn't do. "Sometimes." Again would that be enough? He didn't think so, he was trying but thinking back made him feel old. There were good times with the bad for him of course but would this other even want to hear? Maybe...

"Treasure." He stated simply before remembering that thankfully she and no other could peer inside his mind and read his thoughts. "My rider preferred seeking treasure."

::Tell me more about your rider, or the time you spent racing:: she suggested. :: Do you still have one, or are you riderless like me?:: She studied the stallion, glad that he seemed to be much less uncomfortable with her presence. She waited quietly, content to let him gather his thoughts.

With his gaze fixed on her Blade simply just looked at her with no expression before letting out a sigh and finally letting himself blink. "Not any more. He wore mostly black, we matched."

He could see the image of his old rider in his mind, smiling and excited with their latest treasure in his hand. A pat on his wing felt good and when he thought about it... it made him almost smile but many moon cycles had passed and that hurt. Not being one to admit it he tried to fob the bond between his rider off and lied. "Otherwise" He shrugged non nonchalantly "they all looked the same to me."

Surusumi saw that the question had made him both happy and sad, although he gave no clues beyond that. ::I hope your rider was good to you:: she said. ::I hated mine; he was cruel and uncaring. I got fed up and I ran away from him before a race one day. I didn't stick around to find out, but I bet he was extremely angry as we'd won a lot of races together. I feel sorry for whoever he found to take my place::

She shuddered, remembering what it had been like to live with her rider. Unintentionally, she let her smile fade, and a myriad of emotions played across her face. After a few moments, she shook her head, trying to clear her mind again.

::In any case,:: she told him, ::I'm much happier out here on my own, no rider in sight. But, everyone else I ever talked to loved their riders very much. I apologize if my inquiry caused you any sadness.:: Surusumi wanted to nuzzle Blade Ion gently in reassurance and comfort, but refrained, as from all indicators, the stallion valued his personal space. She settled for scooting in a little closer to him.

Before he could realise he was doing it his eyes had squinted at the mixture of emotions that played across her face. Sure he observed others conversations plenty enough but he was never close enough to see this kind of reaction. It puzzled him enough he was actually curious, some of his discomfort actually seemed to melt away a very weird reaction for someone so out of practise and unused to this interacting with others lark.

Suddenly, as he realise his head had tilted to the side a smidgen and readjusted it back to normal, Blade didn't feel like talking about his rider. He felt a bubbling of injustice inside, how dare someone hurt this female! He wasn't dumb and he knew the lengths that riders and keepers went to with their kind, some were wonderful, some were cruel and some... some just never came back one day.
"He should not of done that... not to you." Blade picked up that she'd moved closer then and his previous statement could of been taken a lot more personally that he'd like and then added "not to anyone" But didn't think it really helped him sound less caring.

Surusumi smiled at this unexpected, but heartfelt response from him. ::Thank you, that's very kind of you. I was angry and bitter about it for a long time, but I decided a few years back that I had to let go of the past and stop wasting the present. I do wish he could have been stopped so no one else would have to go through that. It was beyond my ability to make that happen, though.::

As she spoke, she considered the caring response that had come from Blade. She was a bit surprised, since he had seemed so withdrawn and anti-social. Perhaps he had a bigger heart than he thought. She was definitely curious to find out. And strangely, she felt completely fine talking about this with him, even though she rarely opened up this far to anyone. She was more of a listener than a talker in most social settings.

She chuckled softly. ::I actually hadn't talked with anyone about this in a very long time. For some reason it feels natural to talk to you.::

Shrugging he decided it was a good time to avert his glance from her, looking at her too long was making him think back, back to times filled with just them. All different colours, sizes and ability and the riders who came in equally expansive types and variation. Lowering his tone some he half mumbled out "So you should, can't forget though...ever."

Then he sighed and shook out his tail feathers back to the uncomfortable phase and now she was closer so he put some distance then regardless of the small space and looked back out at the scenery. The chill in the air was picking up as it brushes past his body sending a little shudder, there had been snow... lots of snow recently but surely that was easing with the sun of the day? He wouldn't turn down a good gust of wind to fly but cold wasn't pleasant and unlike others of his colours he was only partially adapted for it.

This meeting had been a blast from the past even though he didn't know this female he knew they were the same kind, and that they both had past woes was obvious. It was his first interaction in so long he wasn't sure how he'd rate in social manners and such he had kinda enjoyed it though... just not the memories but then.... they never went away. Though the sun had teased of warmth today he could tell it was time to seek shelter from the oncoming dark and cold of the night, he had many things to think over... some new.. mostly old. "
Flight time." He said simply as he extended his wings and made the last checked before jumping to take flight.

She sat and watched him fly away, wondering if they would see each other again. She thought about what he'd said, that she couldn't ever forget, and he was right. Try as she might, Surusumi could never get back that piece of her past, or do anything to change it. And though she didn't like it, it was part of who she is.

She fluffed her feathers as she surveyed the area one last time, trying to remember its location for later. Surusumi wanted to visit this place every now and again in the hope of running into Blade Ion again. There was something about him that she was drawn to...and she hoped she would one day discover why.
