"It's hard to say." Junko said quietly, absentmindedly braiding her own hair. "The hair cutting was very intense, I still can't..handle sharp objects coming close to my hair. You see, hair is a futakuchi-onna's most precious attribute and cutting even a few inches is..like...mutilation. A futakuchi-onna with no hair might as well be dead. Dead dead, the kind that never comes back." She shook her head, playing with a different section of hair. "After that they killed Red. Those..jerks." She nearly pulled her own hair.
Junko sighed. "I wanted them dead. I told myself I would feel no pain or regret or sorrow if I killed one or helped to kill one. I hated them for what they were doing, for what they stood for. They called us monsters as an insult but...they were the ones.." She let go of her hair and ran her fingers through it starting from her bangs. "It's..complicated. I was convinced they were awful. They were scum, terrible. And then they destroyed Invi's--..all of the horsemen's homes. They did such awful things. But then I watch them as individuals and while some are terrible...others..genuinely care about their comrades. They're protecting their friends just as we protect ours. They have loved ones and enemies...just like us.." This was so awkward. He was going to be so mad.
"Mot, Lizzy and I went on a trip with DETH to a warehouse and we came across some hunters. And they were really nice! Like, genuinely nice. They didn't attack us, they helped us! And then..some other Hunter appeared and attacked them. He was going to blame it on us! And he..he tried to kill them! All of them! I...I saved one's life. He was stuck in the fire and I managed to free him." She looked up from her lap, her eyes wide. She was surprised even by her own actions. It was so confusing for her.
"I saved one. But I felt good about it. I don't feel their entire ideal is correct, what their overall goal is to do is just wrong but...individually they're still..just...people. Some of them aren't much different from us. I can't find it in myself to hate them anymore. Some of them are just...that Candace woman, if I ever see her I will not hesitate to give her what she deserves but...there are others that are actually not bad." She was nervously wringing her hands now. This was probably exactly what Roch didn't want to hear. "I know this is probably now what you wanted but it's the truth...do..you have anymore questions?"

He was silent for a moment. "Y'know why they did what they did to Mitsu?" he asked her quietly. "They did it because she was nice. They think the nice ones make the best weapons. So they be nice t'ya. Then they kidnap you, an' they torture you t'the point where you're terrified when your own boilfriend summons his weapon. Or they turn you into a tool. Sure, I figure not all hunters are vicious bastards as a person. Just like not all horsemen are lunatic jackers like their leader lady. But when it comes down to it," he said, his tone deadly calm, "who do you think they'll be controlled by? A few stupid scarelings like us, or their bosses?"

"I know why she did what she did to Mitsu. I know everything my best friend told me. I know what to look for in strangers." Junko's eyes narrowed. "I only trust a very select few horsemen myself. They're corrupt just like the Hunters." She remained calm, toying with the edge of her long billowy sleeves. "I'm not saying the Hunters are innocent, but I just..." Junko's hair curled around her wrists, raising her arms like a marionette. The ghoul seemed to pay it no mind. "They rebelled against their leader last time I saw them. There's hope for them." She finally replied in answer to Roch's question. "You can't scare me. I don't trust the horsemen or the hunters aside from few, individual exceptions on the hoseman side." Her eyes followed her arms as her hair continued to use her as a sort of puppet. It was The Mistress' way of quietly keeping the ghoul calm.

He shrugged. "But sayin' that, it's not the same as sayin' if you had t'pick a side, you'd pick the hunters. I think that's what I gotta focus on t'get Amphi's head on right. But, honestly, Junko, you've been around longer than me--you should know the score. You can choose who you trust or who y'don't trust, it ain't any of my business, really. Long as it doesn't drag the school into another shitty mission called a field trip--where we gotta haul someone's a** out of the labs, I don't care."
Which was really rude, and he knew it. But he had the jackin' swirly on his shoulder that said he'd done it before. "But you did give me an idea. So thank you," he said. "Maybe with this I can figure out how t'keep from breakin' up."

Junko was quiet for a moment. "If I had to choose between Hunters and Horsemen...I would choose neither." She said quite confidently, shaking her head. "Honestly I feel the best you can do is support her without making her feel like she's doing something wrong. That's likely to chase her away..." Junko also had the mark of the horsemen on her body, hidden on her hip where she hoped no one would ever see. She regretted trusting Medea. She was glad he wanted to keep her but.. "Just be careful what you do, okay?"

He went silent. "Tell me... if your boilfriend had a tracker in him," he said quietly. "One that allowed the hunters t'see what they see, hear what they hear, maybe even control him... do y'think you could say the same thing you just said?"

"I would still choose neither the horsemen nor the hunters. But if Seiji had a tracker in him...I know how to handle Seiji, we've been together a long time." Junko shook her head. It wouldn't happen to Seiji anyway, he was so cautious. "Ghouls aren't like boils. We have this little feeling called resentment. Even if we don't think of it consciously, there will always somehow be a constant reminder telling us 'he doesn't approve. I have to do what he wants me to do. He doesn't trust me to know how to take care of myself.' I've had this argument with Seiji before. It doesn't end well no matter the outcome. Usually neither side can win from what I see." She shrugged. "You may not trust the Hunters...but do you trust Amphi?"

He shoved his hands in his pockets. "Yeah, y'got me there," he admitted. "Jack... well... I try," he said slowly. "I really do. We ain't been together nearly as long as you two have, though. And half that time she'd been kidnapped by hunters or couldn't speak or--" He shook his head, running a hand over his face. "You got a point," he admitted. "I... I'll work on it."
It was pretty clear at this point that it was his first serious relationship.

Junko actually smiled, tugging at her hair as a sign to stop manipulating her arms. She was okay now. He was trying, he sounded like Seiji. He just wanted it to work, he wanted Amphi safe. It made sense, it was understandable, it was the best reason for wanting something...but he had to tread carefully. "I know you just want to protect her, but be careful of how you go about it. You need to be patient, you need to communicate. You need to listen to her and trust her, and I'm sure she'll do the same for you. Relationships, they're work. It's hard. I know exactly how you're feeling, I've been in Amphi's place before..not...with every detail she's had but you know.." She paused, trying to think of where to go with this.
"Don't make her feel like she's being stupid, or that you don't trust her, or anything of the sort. Do you know what I mean? Despite what your intentions may be, it can actually be really easy to do if you're not careful."

But did he trust her? He sighed, shrugging. "I got a lot of talkin' to do, then," he said. "But... thanks." He flipped off his phone. "I got a ghoulfriend to go find, looks like." He nodded slightly to her in goodbye and grabbed his notes, heading off.

Junko nodded and stood, straightening out her clothes before she brightened up considerably and bouncing on her toes. She clapped her hands. "Ganbatte yo~!" She cheered, grinning from ear to ear. "It'll all work out!" Junko called as Roch headed off, sighing once he was out of earshot and shaking her head. She abandoned the library shortly after him, heading back to her own dorm.
