Rayne watched him carefully while she touched and preened him. This stallion was not used to such affections it seemed in fear of someone dying because of his deadly plants. But Rayne was already dead due to the vampiric blessing flowing through her veins. And she didn't feel any sort of reaction to the plants...well at the moment anyway. Even if she did, she wouldn't have told Sumac. This..experiment was getting a little too interesting for her to stop now. As she stepped back, she noticed the look on his face and almost keeled over as she whinnied with laughter. It had been a while since anything - or anyone for that matter - had made her smile. "Then I suppose we should go find some water to wash off in." Rayne gave a wink keeping in the shade for a moment. The sun was starting to set and soon it would be tolerable enough for her to travel. Her ears perked listening to Sumac, then giving an understanding nod. "Ah. I've been there. I hope you get as far away as you can, poison heart." Her tail waved idly behind her as she came toward him again, her eyes fixed on his, a wicked smile on her mouth as she then leaned forward nuzzling her nose against his. "Lucky for us, I'm new too. As far as I know, there are no other herds here, and I am on my own. Usually and as far as I know, those of our kind do not travel in more than two's or three's unless it's a family unit. I've been on my own since my...rebirth you could say." Rayne offered a bit of a grin keeping close to Sumac. The mare was curious about him, and wanted to show him that what he had...wasn't a curse. "When the sun gets a little it lower, we could go in search of that water if that makes you feel better?"

The laughter confused him making the look on his face even more comical. It calmed when she mentioned water and washing. He looked soothed and calm once more. The nickname made him blink. Normally the use of the word heart as a pet name was a sign of fondness and that surely could not exist between the two of them since they had only just met. She was a beautiful if slightly unnerving mare, but still very much a mystery. So lost in his thoughts that he didn’t even have time to tense up when she came over and started to nuzzle him. He took a step back with a shocked look on his face and worry beginning to form in his eyes again. Really she had to stop doing that. Her words made any chastisement he was going to deliver die half way up his throat. He nodded to her idea of traveling to find water. “Thank you for your understanding.” He thought for a moment longer. “I’m sorry you’ve been alone so long. I can’t even imagine what that’s like.” He had never been able to truly touch others but there were others around. His mother, then with her death he was alone for a time which was painful, before finding the Six’s herd. To be alone due to a sudden change must have been hard then to stay alone would have been torture. He wondered if the vampirism she now had was agreed to or forced on her. He truly hoped they were voluntary and that she had not lost her life before due to her ‘rebirth’. “We can wait as long as it takes for you to travel comfortably I won’t be going anywhere I promise you that.” It was a promise not to run or leave her alone again. After she was clean and in no risk he would part from her but while she was at risk he would not leave her when she could not journey out.

The mare noticed his mood turn quite comfortable as she assured him of her bathing. Had others who touched him met such a fate that it struck fear in his heart and soul? Her mouth quirked at the thought feeling quite a twinge of sympathy for him. Her vampiric nature was toxic, yes, but at least she could touch someone! When he took a step back, she let out a slightly involuntary growl. Couldn't he see that she was attempting to be sweet on him? It seemed as if the male needed some sort of kindness in his life, especially physical. At his apology, she rolled her eyes with an annoyance. "I choose to be alone, Sumac. I visit with others, but they do not know I am there. I live vicariously through them, and it is quite entertaining. However, there are times where I do choose to mingle with those of the living again." Rayne gave a gentle snort nipping at his nose but still giving him the space he seemed to require. "I'm sorry you fear to touch so much that you cannot overcome your own loneliness. True you are around others, but does that keep you warm at night? Does that give you someone to confide in? At least my loneliness is something I am quite content with." Her nostrils flared as the mare shook her neck slightly. She then gave a gentle laugh to calm the mood. "Don't keep a promise you cannot keep, Sumac Gartha." The mare's words held some sort of venom to them as she gave him an irritated glance. Soon the sun had gone down enough for her to go, and Rayne did indeed start walking making sure to keep in line with as much of the shadows as she could. She would lead him to the water and then she would bathe to make him comfortable enough so that he would stay with her. Rayne was tired of sleeping alone...and she was growing hungry. Probably why she was so irritable.

That growl was more unnerving than he cared to admit but he didn’t flinch at it. Her words just made his heart ache for her all the more. To live through others but have no live of his own. He supposed he understood that more than anyone. He had lived as a lackey but had lived through Cardinal’s daughters in a way and through the other youngsters he had been tasked to watch. Rayne’s n** brought him out of the past oddly enough making him smile at her. She was giving him some space which made him feel more at ease in her presence. “As you can see my condition does not affect my mouth so I’m free to confide with anyone, as for my warmth.” He seemed to be reaching for words of some kind or perhaps reliving memories. “I guess I never really thought about it. I am, er, was alone even with others that’s all there was to it.” He followed her without comment on her last words. It would serve no point. He had nowhere to be and nowhere to go. He had done many horrible things as Cardinal’s lackey and he doubted he would be well received in the north. His ties to south were cut and he knew no one in neutral lands. Rayne hadn’t asked about it and he wondered if she ever would. Likely she would cast him out if she learned of the deaths on his soul. Still even if she ordered him to go he wondered if he should. She had been more alone than him all this time. Perhaps he could spend some time with her even if it only lead to her killing him in the end. He plodded along behind Rayne with his mane falling in his eyes for the most part his wings were loose at his sides as he was relaxed moving again. He felt very bulky following the clearly more agile mare. Still she was moving at a pace he could follow for which he was grateful.
