Zippy hesitated for just the briefest second when she apologized. And then more rage set in. He had no idea why it made him so angry, but the fact she could even make him stop was rage inducing. Nothing was right in the world, with him, with anything, and he couldn't stop to feel broken about it.
No, instead he was going to break her, he had resolved, and he was wordlessly coming at her again for another swing.

For some reason, Irene had actually expected things to settle down from there. She had been taught that politeness was everything. Even if one had behaved brutishly, if they offered a heartfelt apology, it was in good manners to accept it. Either her instructors were wrong, or this guy had never been instructed in etiquette.
"What are you doing?" she demanded angrily, crossing her arms in front of her body to block the next blow. "I said I was sorry! We can stop doing this now! Nobody needs to get hurt!" As if to prove her resolve, she dropped her arms to her sides. No more punches would be thrown, at least, not by her.

Zippeite might've had a cruel retort for her pleas, for her statement no one needed to be hurt. But that was if he was wittier, and more eloquent in his anger. And he wasn't, and he was more than angry. He was raging and he had no idea why she ignited such a flare in his chest. He wanted her obliterated just to make it stop.
With a frustrated yell he just kept swinging and swinging, accuracy failing in all of the impulsive and haphazard attempts.

This wasn't working. Irene had tried to reason with him, had tried to fight him, had tried to apologize to him. Nothing made him stop swinging at her. Her arms ached from the blows that managed to connect, though she was too distressed to notice that a fair number of them missed entirely. He would keep hurting her until she made him stop- something she didn't want to do, even if she fully believed that she could- or until there was nothing left to hurt.
There was only one other choice, and it was something that she rarely even considered. It felt like giving up, but at this moment she would rather give up than deal with another punch, or the chance that she would lose herself again and do something she would regret.
"Irene's Peaceful Offering!" Her voice was hoarse but managed to get the words out, triggering the appearance of a small glowing sapling between them. It didn't provide her with any shelter from his attacks; his weapon would swing right through the ghostly tree. Instead, it gave her a small burst of energy, enough to put a fair bit of distance between them as she ran away, as fast and as far as she could. She didn't offer any further explanations or apologies. She just ran, hating herself for doing it, but unable to think of another solution.
