Kavanna took the insult with stride and smirked. She knew that her actions would soon have repercussions if she continued. The two could duke it out here in front of others and break the rules of the festival, or they could go elsewhere. Though Kavanna didn't necessarily want to fight. All she wanted was to boil the blood of an enemy, which she obtained a sick delight from doing as often as she could.

It was obvious that Kavanna wasn't normally as wicked as that. But there was something about this Oblivionite that just got under her skin every time she even thought of her. It was almost as though something inside her drove her to do and say the things that she wouldn't normally say. She had grown much more mature she felt in the passed years, though when Elleth came into view, something inside of her just snapped and it was as if she were a mere child again, antagonizing someone who probably didn't deserve it.

Oh well, maybe one day she would snap out of it and move forward, thinking more of her future than her past. She couldn't even explain how she felt toward Elleth if she wanted. It was just an inner anger that didn't leave. It was so weird, but oh so satisfying whenever she could just pick fun at the poor Oblivionite.

"Your sense of humor hasn't changed a bit, dear." she began. "Damn...there's a line for those who have beaten you up before? Hmm, just goes to show how weak a person can really be. That's alright though, I don't need a rematch. Just like you, I'm here to enjoy the event. Though I'm with my boyfriend, how about you? Come alone? Haha! Oh of course you did, because I don't know who would want to be with an abominable Oblivionite girl such as yourself. Anywhoo, have fun at the event, dear. Don't step on too many toes." she finished, a smirk on her face as she turned around and began to walk away.

Maslin had narrowed down his choices to a stall selling some sort of caramelized fruit he'd never seen before and one offering crushed ice with various syrups poured over it for flavouring. He hadn't initially been interested in a cold treat given it was winter but it looked like the vendor running the booth had flavours he'd never had a chance to try yet. The young boy was pulled from his thoughts though when he was unceremoniously bumped into out of nowhere. Fortunately for him his often maligned chubbiness made him solid enough that it took extra effort to knock him over as opposed to someone else his age. Still, he wasn't pleased about his internal debate being interrupted.

Narrowing his eyes in irritation Maslin turned halfway to his left to get a look at who'd run into him, betting it was on purpose, it usually was. Spilled across the ground nearby though and looking fairly non threatening was a child about his age, an orderite if looks were to be believed and he was almost sure they were a girl. Well aware that this could be a trick or the start of some clever scheme the young hybrid leaned down and reached out a hand to offer his assistance with a grunted "be careful."

If he felt so much as a tug on his satchel from his blind spot or got the hint that this girl was up to something though he was going to let her go and head straight for ferries with a renewed sense of doubt in the worth of other beings.

Kadryn watched the boy turn around. He didn't look too upset, which was good. Then she smiled as the boy offered her a hand up; definitely a nice person! Not too many people offered her a hand, since they assumed she was a boy or had enough energy to help herself up. She accepted his assistance as she popped back to her feet."Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going. My names Kadryn, what's yours?" A chubby dovaa, now I've seen it all! Maybe he's just fed a lot of really good food... thinking of food...
"I'm on my way to my aunt's food stall, I've played enough so I was going to go help her cook up some treats, would you like to join me? We'll feed you, as an apology for bumping into you? " Bringing in a customer and perhaps making a new friend! This festival really is the best Kadryn thought as she grinned up at the taller boy.

The offer of free food was enticing but Maslin still didn't trust Kadryn. He'd seen this kind of con before, you ran into someone, took them somewhere as repentance and then put things in their food or drink so they fell asleep and you could rob them while pretending to help them as far as the crowd was concerned. Why he would be the target of something like this Maslin didn't know. He didn't look particularly well off compared to some of the festival attendees and was too young to have much of an income. Still, in his young and jaded mind the possibility of people being terrible was everywhere.

Just the day before he'd been treated to an earful of a rant about how some local woman was trying desperately to pretend that her coming child was actually her husband's even though anyone with a brain could count back and know he'd been off hunting dragons when the child would have been conceived. Family was important to Maslin and he couldn't imagine lying to his, especially not about something as important as who the real parents of a baby were.

" My name is Maslin and I'd like that" he finally replied with caution as he tucked an orange hued strand of hair behind one of his horns. As long as he was careful Maslin supposed it would be ok, besides he was under orders to take chances today.

The childish taunts that came spewing from Kavanna's mouth came at her like a bucket of cold water, instantly cooling her temper and waking her from the haze of red that had settled over her aura-vision. This..this was her biggest rival? The one she'd longed to put an end to? To end the torment and humiliation she'd suffered as a child? It was...baffling how low she'd allowed herself to fall to let herself be baited by this whelp of a girl-child. Child because she hadn't seemed to have grown up at all.

It was easy to ignore the quip about there being a line for rematches, even easier to ignore the comments about her being weak. Weakness in itself could be a strength, as she'd found out while training with Samril. She'd have been called weak for not killing him, instead she'd gained a friend and someone different with whom she could spar with. It wasn't weakness to make mistakes and then learn from them.

But oh how she couldn't help it... "Boyfriend? You mean some poor sod actually fell for your hag-like charms? What am I saying, I'm insulting the Hags by comparing them to you. You've probably kept the poor man addled with love potions and aphrodisiacs. Your heart is as black as my skin and anyone with eyes can see it." She looked down to examine her nails, the edges of which were a tad ragged from hard work. "If you must know, I've been too busy these past years to go courting someone. None whom tried to woo me have been approved by my parents anyhow. All of them were lackluster. Much like you." Her expression had smoothed out though one corner of her lips kept twitching upwards. "Ta dear enjoy the event with your...boyfriend".

Elleth gave a little wave at Kavanna, like one would to a departing friend, before padding away to vanish into the crowds.

The Dovaa stopped as the girl spoke, clenching her fist as she spouted off her words about love potions and how her heart was as black as her skin and all that s**t. Kavanna didn't turn around until she was done speaking. But by then, it was too late. Her green eyes narrowed as she glanced through the different people in the crowd. Good, she was gone. Well, she had done what she attempted to do anyway. Bait her a bit and cause at least a little anger from her. That Elleth girl wasn't worth the trouble. One day they would likely meet again and things wouldn't go down so smoothly.

Finally, only moments after the two departed, Alex came back with a couple of waters. "I'm sorry, this was all I could find." he said, handing her the cup. "Something wrong?" he inquired.

"No, no, everything is fine, thank you for doing that for me. Now lets go enjoy the rest of our time here." she said, a grand smile on her face.

The two joined hands and began to walk the opposite way from the Oblivionite girl. Kavanna looked over her shoulder to see if the girl was in sight whatsoever. She wasn't.

It was time to find someone else to meet with. Her thoughts went to her first sparring partner, Samril. She wondered if he was here at the fair.

Ignotus, at times, loved to crowd watch. There were just so many interesting things you could find out about a person without even talking to them. For example: a person, who fidgeted, didn’t meet your eyes straight on and probably perspiring more than normal was likely lying. There were also others, who tended to shy away from crowds, look down at the road rather than up and tended to get lost too much into their own thoughts probably had difficulties with confidence of self.

The hybrid followed the meandering path of a golden-haired braided Dovaa towards his booth. Ignotus narrowed his eyes and felt his own smile widen into a leer as he observed the boy taking veiled glances his way. The other quickly approached the counter; seemingly shy in attitude as he slowly counted the required payment of gold unto the counter in front of Ignotus. The embarrassed and barely heard greeting with the accompanied streak of scarlet across the Dovaa’s cheeks made Ignotus’ metaphorical devil horns rear.

The oddly eyed being then watched with an intense gaze as the boy chose his knife, most likely with no clue as to the difference of weapons with that particular look on his face, and clumsily threw at the target. It was definitely an accident of luck that the purple-eyed Dovaa even got so close to the target. No dice though, Ignotus mentally scoffed as he watched the knife wobble then fall with a sad thud on the dirty booth floor.

The pale haired male then crouched down and beheld the young and hopeful boy before him and prepared to dice the other’s shy enthusiasm quite thoroughly.

“You might have had a near hit there little effeminate boy.” The older man smirked at the blush, “But the knife has to stay stuck on the target for you to win a prize.” He carefully watched for a negative reaction from the Dovaa before continuing, “Although I guess, a man like me should be a little more generous to someone who looks as pretty as you.”Ignotus allowed his gaze to turn lascivious, “Would you care for a special homemade brownie from me?”

Samril had wandered the Festival for a while and not spotted much that held his interest for long. He'd sampled food from a variety of booths, but you only had so much room in your stomach for food and he'd soon filled up for now. And so he'd watched for a bit at the carving contest, but that got boring fast. These people were so slow and taking off the smallest pieces. BORING.

Soon the Kiandri Dovaa wandered back toward the knife throwing booth. Perhaps he'd give it another shot. After all, it had been a bit fun, even if the guy running it was odd looking and a bit creepy.

Samril had appeared shortly after Miri had showed up and the older boy hung back and watched as the child tried his luck. Samril was a bit impressed that the boy had managed to get the knife point to stick... for a whole second or two. And then that creepy dude started in talking and offering a special brownie.

"What's so special about them?" Samril asked as he approached, coins already in hand for the game. He set the money down and started looking through the knives as he awaited an answer. These knives could still use a nice sharpening. But Samril finally selected one and rolled his shoulders, gearing up for his throw. Then his arm came up and back and the knife headed towards the target.

Once again, the knife hit wrong and bounced off. Samril scowled and turned his attention back to the booth owner and the other Dovaa.

Miri only tilted his head slightly to one side, like a puppy who'd cocked its ears to listen to an interesting sound. "I understand," He said softly, "I'm not too good with knives. Or weapons in general." It was no use throwing a tantrum over a rigged game when he'd obviously lost. He was just happy that he'd even hit the darn thing instead of the far side of the booth.

The blush on his face had receded somewhat as he spoke, and now he was able to meet Ignotus's eyes for more than a split second. But he just didn't have it in him to stare at the beautiful man like he knew others must be doing. His Momma had always told him that it was rude to stare, no matter how much you wanted to imprint the person into your memory.

The seemingly harsh words of course, had no effect on Miri. He'd been called worse things than 'little effeminate boy', actually that was downright polite compared to the other names. At the offer of a homemade treat Miri blinked in surprise. "I...are you sure it's alright?" He asked, the meaning behind Ignotus's heated gaze going right over his head.

Just then another Dovaa popped up, and tried his hand at throwing a knife, only to fail like he did. While he was speaking to the stunning hybrid Miri paid for another shot at the game, chose the same knife as before, and tried again, it didn't surprise him at all when the knife just bounced off the target.

Kadryn smiled hapily. Yay! Someone to eat with! Food always tasted better when you ate with someone. Even if they didn't seem like much of a conversationalist like she thought Maslin was...
"This way then, Maslin! Auntie is manning Wind Cafe's food stall. ... Though she's not really my aunt. I just call her that cause Ma works for her and I grew up in Wind Cafe's kitchen with both of them watching over me." Kadryn scurried off into the crowd, pausing every now and then to make sure she didn't lose him. Kadryn saw Ismiril at the odd Orderite's knife stall. While she wanted to go over and talk to him, see how he was and everything, that would be rude to Maslin. Since she had promised food, she couldn't make him stand around and wait while she talked with Izzy. So she passed him by and skipped around the booth's front and grinned up to Talia.
"Hey Tali! This here is Maslin, I promised him some food." Talia smiled as she looked down at Kadryn, "My guess is you weren't watching where you were going and crashed into him. Hello Maslin, nice to meet you. Grab a chair and go sit while you, Kadryn, go get him the food you promised. It's quiet right now since we're waiting for the next batch of pastries. They love Tarlon's cooking! We keep selling out!" Talia nodded at a small table set off to the side by a warming braizer next to her booth. "The table there is for those who want to sit and eat like civilized people, so there's no need for you to stand around waiting." She smiled at Maslin as her husband Tarlon emerged from the makeshift kitchen behind the booth. Tall and burly, he looked like a pirate, covered in scars and tattoo's with his short bright red hair spiked.
"Is that Kaddy Ah hear? Come back 'ere and help me wit this latest batch lass! Ah'm gonna need an extra set of hands tah make enough tah last for a while!"
Kadryn truned to Maslin as a cutomer came up to talk to Talia, "I'll be right back with some pastries, if you'd wait a sec... coming Uncle!" She skipped over to Tarlon and grinned as he fluffed her hair. "I'll help in a bit, 'kay?
She scurried into the kitchen and piled some hot pastries on to a plate and poured a glass of hot apple cider. She then bounced over to Maslin and sat down across from him. The plate held several types of pastires on it. One looked like a bun, drizzled with maple syrup on top. Rather puffy, it held hot currant jam inside. Another was flaky looking and had many layers, in between which there were creams and jams. And the last two were thick circle pastries rolled around a core of hot caramel and almonds.
"Here you go Maslin! fresh form the oven!"

Kadryn was surprisingly more forthcoming with information than Maslin had expected. Most people didn't tend to tell you things like that so quickly. Rather than making him more suspicious thought it helped calm the young boy just a bit. he was pretty positive he;d heard of the Wind cafe before, either family or customers had mentioned the name in passing before. It was unlikely then that this was some sort of scam since it would end up reflecting badly on the business if anything happened to him. Chewing on his lower lip as he walked Maslin supposed this could be a frame job but even to him that seemed silly.

He was just a little amused to learn that Kadryn seemed to have a habit of running into people. On one hand he felt the small blue haired girl should be more careful but then again some people were just naturally clumsy or never learned and he was not flaw free himself. With a polite " thank you" to the the girl's sort of aunt he moved over to the indicated table and sat, grateful for the warmth of the nearby brazier. While not horribly afflicted by the cold he'd never been fond of it and much preferred the summer when he could lay stretched out on a blanket in a grassy field and tinker with a watch or something of the like while soaking up the sun's warm rays.

Maslin's mouth watered and glee was reflected in his amber coloured eyes when Kadryn joined him with a plate of amazing looking and even better smelling baked goods. He could stand to be bumped into from time to time if this was the result. "Thanks, they look great," he admitted as he reached out to pick up one of the rolls that seemed to be oozing caramel. "Do you normally help make these?" Was she perhaps training to be a baker when she grew up instead of a fighter like so many others their age.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 17, 2012 2:56 pm

Kadryn was thrilled when she saw Maslin's face glow with anticipation when he saw the food. And he actually asked a question! Yay, maybe he was opening up?
"Yup! I grew up in the kitchen cooking with Tarlon and Ma. I love to cook! Learned a lot there and I really like creating stuff that makes people happy. " She paused and though a second, "But, I don't like making the same thing day in and day out, like Ma does at the Cafe. It's a job, and she loves cooking more than I do so it works for her. But I'd go crazy having to do the same thing everyday and staying in the same place all the time. I'd rather be a dragon hunter and cook for friends and family. That way I can cook what I want and still enjoy the wilderness and not get tied down!" She grinned at Maslin, "Enough about me! What about you? What's the dovaa's home like? I've heard tales, but apparently only dovaa are allowed in, so I can't go visit myself... "

~* Beware da voodoo . . .

It took a good time until Eku feels content with the cold weather. But before he could actually enjoy the festival, he had to visit one of the clothing stands to find a pair of pants to wear because his skirt is just obsolete. After looking around, he found one that he likes; slightly puffy and vibrant orange just like his skirt. He paid for it and changed it in a small makeshift changing room. It was . . . awkward to walk in the pants. Sometimes he feels that he might fall and roll off into the snow! But he has no choice since he wants to have fun while he can. Who knows when his caretaker finally realize that he's nowhere to be found at all.

Eku walked around for a bit around the festival, seeing what he wants to do. He spot the dance floor where there's a few people dancing. However, they're all in couples which looks like more fun than dancing alone. Being alone is rather pathetic and he wants to try to avoid that. Pathetic is not fun after all. After walking around, he found himself back to Iggy's knife throwing game and he smiled brightly. Already he can see that there's a few people playing the game and Ignotus busying himself with an older Dovaa boy and another Dovaa with pretty long blond hair trying the knife throwing game. It makes him smile a bit as he walks up to the counter and to his side.

"Ya need ta throw a little harder." He said to him, smiling bright as he stretches the stitches as he pays for the game on the counter and then reaches over to grab one of the knives. The voodoo boy grew fascinated with the blade, examining it before he grabs the hilt of the blade and aims at his target. "All in de wrist 'ere" However, having a loose wrist is good for the game, his wrist was a little too loose as he throws his knife along with his hand as the stitches popped out and his hand is dangling over the counter. "Ack! Stupid hand! Get back ov'r ta Eku." Well, he might have frighten the blonde Dovaa as he pulls his hand back up and turned his back away as he pulls out a needle and black thread that is imbued with magic to sew it back to his wrist again like before. The voodoo boy peaked over his shoulder to see him just for a moment and silently play the game. Damn, he is pathetic and probably not a lot of fun now.

Maslin listened to Kadryn talk as he nibbled carefully on his pastry, not wanting to burn his tongue with over eagerness. The baked treat was hot and delicious though and Maslin made a mental note to visit the wind cafe the next time he was in the area it was located. He nodded in agreement at the sentiment of repetition being boring, while he could spend weeks fixing watches he'd prefer to jump between projects so as to not get bored. He supposed it was part of why creating things was most appealing for him, he was always experimenting with new mechanisms or materials and getting to see varying results with each project.

Dragon hunting.. wasn't she a bit small to be facing off against such powerful beasts?

Maslin's mood soured upon being mistaken for a Dovaa, this often happened if his wings or tattoo weren't visible and then he had to explain the truth. There was Dovaa blood within his veins but it was not the only thing in there. The orderite girl might not harbour the typical war base resentment of Dovaa that some did but he doubted she'd approve of his kind. " I'm not a Dovaa ," he replied through gritted teeth, wondering if the the treat in his hand would be the only one he'd receive today or if she was going to pretend to be nice to him a little longer and let him eat the rest of what she'd brought out.

A dark shadow was cast by the trees overhead as the woman seemed to float through the dark. The moonlight cascaded through the trees as joyous sounds were heard in the distance. The targets floating at her sides beamed a moment of bright light, startled by the noise.

Climbing to the top of a tall rock, the woman's cloak flowed downward to cover her entire body, hiding it from sight within the darkness. Her hood was drawn slowly away from her face as her piercing red eyes flared as she saw the lights blinking and glistening in the distance. What was happening over there?

Her eyes darted from one object to the next as she neared the party. This wasn't like the people of Magesc at all. She had seen many different kinds of people, Oblivionites, Orderites, and Dovaa. All they ever wanted to do was hunt her kind like savages. It was almost as though they were the feral ones.

She wasn't sure what she would find within the confines of this festival, but checking it out nevertheless was her plan. Her spectral wings dimmed to an unimaginable brightness that they almost seemed to never exist. Hugging her cloak tightly, the woman set foot into the festival for the first time.

Many of these people were having fun, hanging around each other like the issue of race didn't matter. What was this party? The people weren't fighting at all. Had something happened to end the war that had been waging for centuries between these three races or what was the cause of the peace?

Maybe the investigation should happen. It wasn't long before the woman found herself shifting through the crowd, her body unseen.
