Zelcion snarled at Xellra as Yseult took a position at Xellra's rear to block his escape. 'Cuddle time.' He snorted. It was the sort of remark that shouldn't rile Zelcion up and yet it did. It was also the sort of remark that promised to land Xellra in a world of pain. "I think he could do without his wings, don't you think, Tythoss? Nasty falls have been known to snap bones before and there are plenty of places out here to take a nasty fall. You'd think his kirin blood would have endowed him with more grace." Zelcion sneered at his half brother before smirking at Tythoss.

"After we check that he didn't die from his clumsiness we can go back to our 'cuddle time.' I'll send Yseult with Xellra to make sure that Lord Bestmaster and father know that Xellra needs more training."

It looked like he'd struck a nerve. Xellra smirked. Not bad, all things considered. He didn't mind at all departing on that note, as long as he shook off Yseult before they got to anyone important. "Come on then, Yseult." He flicked his tail dismissively at the servant. "It looks like your owner wants some alone time."

He began to back away from his two half-brothers, but didn't turn his back on them. Zelcion was mad enough that Xellra wouldn't put an attack past him. If only Yseult didn't have functioning wings he'd be able to just fly away. That plan wasn't going to work out, but he'd at least made his impression.

"We'll catch up you later!" Tythoss shouted after him. "You can't hide! We know where you live." It was a big jungle but there were still only so many places to go in the area. Tythoss hadn't thought that the 'cuddle' remark was really worth getting upset over, but Zelcion was mad so Xellra probably deserved a beating.

He hoped that they did make it all the way to Beastmaster. He would like to see the look on her face when she heard about what a failure the little mongrel was.

Yseult gave Xellra a look promising that he'd wake up in the morning covered in snakes or leeches but otherwise did nothing to stop him. She would follow his progress back. If he tried to go spy again she'd attack. If he tried to attack her she'd strike back. It was all a very simple process. She understood that Zelcion was angry and she was more then happy to take a chunk or two out of the half breed for him the moment she got the opportunity.

Zelcion snorted irritably after Yseult and Xellra were out of view. "The nerve of that half breed. He really should be punished you know. We can't have him getting ideas that he means anything." He scowled into the jungle for a moment longer before composing himself. "Now, back to business." He said returning to the clearing, it seemed like a better place to have a discussion. He idly observed that the ocelot was dashing off into the bushes as he re-entered. "Probably done with his nap." Zelcion muttered before backing himself back into his trees like he had done before.

"So, we'll take the leaders from herds and execute them. I told you it was a beautiful plan. The only question is...where do we start?" There were a lot of herds in the region. Really it was a matter of how big they wanted to start. Bigger seemed better, then they wouldn't have to worry about word spreading. If a small herd learned what was afoot they still had a good chance of fighting them off. A large herd was a different story.

It took Tythoss longer to recover his attention than his brother. He was still contemplating ways to make Xellra suffer without being caught when Zelcion started back up their conversation. Tythoss blinked to attention about halfway through, but had no idea what Zelcion had started out with.

The part he did catch was about picking somewhere to start with. It was a good question. There weren't any really impressive herds in the jungle area that Tythoss knew about. There were a few small herds around, but they were mostly just glorified family groups or collections of hobbyists. The bigger herds were in the more temperate areas, and Tythoss' memory plucked at one.

"There was that herd that Dad terrorized. What was it called, again?"

Zelcion's eyes widened a fraction as his brain kicked into overdrive. Leave it to Tythoss to pick the perfect target at random. What was that herd called? "Panilani or something to that extent." Zelcion supplied. He couldn't remember exactly what that herd had been called. It had never really mattered. All he knew was that it had a lot of ah sounds to it. "The ones near the mountain, pass, right? Where he killed that winged b***h?" He remembered the stories well enough. The chaos that he had instigated with the help of some skinwalker and her crew. It was beautiful, the kind of pain he wished to cause on such a grand scale. It only seemed right that they go in now for another attack just when they were probably starting to feel safe. It was very poetic in a sense.

"Right! That's the one." From the way Xelloss told it, that herd had been ripe for the picking and probably still was. They were a bunch of softies who just wanted to love each other and think deep thoughts or something stupid like that. People like that deserved torment.

"Maybe we can get him a souvenir." Tythoss licked his lips hopefully. "Bring back one for him to kill and relive the old memories? Heh. I think that could be real fun." That was Tythoss' idea of a family bonding experience, murdering a screaming wretch together.

Zelcion chuckled and his eyes returned to the happy squint that was practically genetic. "I think a souvenir would be perfect. Dragging one back would give her time to really panic." Zelcion wasn't sure why he immediately selected a female to be the target, perhaps because they were often weaker and easier to get a hold of. Or perhaps it was just out of an effort to let their father really remember one of the more glorious times. He had killed a mare then, he could kill a new one now.

"Perhaps we should invite Yseult along and make sure she really proves herself to us." He suggested walking towards the other side of the clearing where he had initially entered. They had a plan, he was eager to get moving before something came up. There was no telling when the Lords might find work for them. If they wanted to show what they could do alone they had to be quick. They could hash out the details on the way to the stupid herd.

"I don't mind Yseult," offered Tythoss. "She's not a bad looking mare." He leered in the direction Yseult had exited in. He wouldn't mind having a lovely thing like that as one of his servants. Maybe that was something else they could look for on their way to the herd they were going to prey upon.

Their first big team mission. He fluttered his stunted wings in anticipation. It was about time they did something bigger than harassing the neighbors. He couldn't think of a more perfect way to make a name for themselves as mazoku.

"No, she's not." Zelcion responded, side-eying his brother. Mazoku weren't supposed to feel anything really but that hadn't stopped Zelcion from feeling possessive over his servant. He had found her, out smarted her, and convinced her to take orders from him all before he reached adulthood. He didn't really mind his brother admiring her but nothing short of a physical intervention from one of their lords would save Tythoss if he touched her without Zelcion's say so.

"Let's go fetch Yseult and then depart immediately. Maybe kick Xellra a few times if he's near by..." Zelcion snickered as he trotted off in search of his servant. This was going to be a grand expedition and there would almost certainly be rewards awaiting them upon their triumphant return.

The only sound in the clearing after Tythoss and Zelcion's departure was that of the wind and it stayed that way for a few moments. Then the wind was joined by the rustling of bushes and the soft thuds of careful hoof-steps. An ocelot pranced into the clearing and started cleaning its fur followed by two dark maned horses, a mare and a stallion. The two exchanged worried looks before the tiny peach colored mare crept to the edge and peered out into the jungle. She let out a small sigh. "It looks like they're gone." She said flicking her feline like tail. This was Uwasa, an agent of Lorenna's stationed in the jungle to keep an ear open for trouble just like this. Her companions were the ocelot Aditi and the bizarre "jungle king" Devmani.

"So this is what you're here for, eh?" Devmani questioned sounding like he had something in his mouth. He didn't. If he was actually holding something his speech would be completely unintelligible. Uwasa had learned early on that he just had a really thick accent that didn't seem to belong to any place in particular. It was as though Devmani had simply started talking that way to sound important and then he couldn't seem to stop. "I was wrong, darling. There really is serious trouble in these parts." For the past few weeks Devmani had spent all of his waking moments trying to convince Uwasa to give up what he thought was a pointless quest. He wanted her to come be his exotic pet of sorts just like Aditi and live in the lap of luxury. It was very strange to find out that he had been wrong after all.

Uwasa nodded her head and made no comment to rub in exactly how wrong he had been. He was her ally in all of this and to be completely honest she could use the company in this strange land. "Come on, Devmani, we need to get to the nearest birds that will understand us." Devmani nodded and crossed over to his dear pet. He picked the ocelot up as gently as he could with his claws and tried to set her on his back. The cat hissed and scratched at his foot as she landed on Devmani's back behind his wings. After a moment she settled down for the ride.

"The nearest birds should be this way." He supplied heading off down a side path. Uwasa followed him closely and before long the found a nesting tree with dozens of brightly colored birds chattering away in a language that she understood.

"Excuse me!" She called up to them. "Please, may I speak with whoever is in charge? It's very important. A matter of life and death. You'll be rewarded with gold and jewels or anything else you want if you help us!" Devmani made a sound of protest knowing whose gold was being spent here. Uwasa gave him a light kick to silence him. Before long a pair birds were fluttering around their heads listening to the instructions. They were to carry a message to a stallion named Delacroix out on the plains about a plot to attack Padmapani. She knew of the herd well, they lived near her mother's old herd after all.

After a few moments of further explanation and some bargaining the birds flew off for the plains. As Uwasa led Devmani away she muttered that they needed to get to the crows that were already allied with her. Strictly speaking she should have gone to the crows first but time had been of the essence and there was no harm in getting more help.

Lorenna's network was now in motion, Uwasa only hoped that it worked.

Lapointe looked from the bird to his dad. Had he heard that right? In its piping voice, the bird had told them of a group of kalonas on the move. They were apparently going to be passing through the region in not too long, headed on their way to some poor herd near the mountains. Lapointe hadn't expected that they'd actually get much in the way of action when they'd signed up for the information network thing.

"What are we going to do now?" he asked Delacroix. He hadn't been paying as much attention as he should have when they had been given their instructions the first time.

Kalonas. The word alone sent a chill through Delacroix and the knowledge that some were coming almost froze him entirely. The scars that covered his entire body were mementos from a group of kalonas. There were nights when he still woke up screaming with the memory, though it was many years past.

"If there are kalonas coming, we do what we can to stop them," he said firmly. Sensing his son's questioning gaze, he added belatedly, "In this case, what we can do is pass along the word. We don't stand much chance of meeting up with them at random as they travel. It is better to warn those where we know they are going." He began scan the scrubby trees in the grassy plains for birds. Hopefully there would be one of the messenger birds around.

"There one his," he said after not too long. "Go ahead, Lapointe. Tell it what we heard from the other bird."
