A bit of silence from Marcus as he led her back towards the guest room. Get her a bit aways from things she could destroy seemed like a good idea. “Could be then. But the matter is the same. She’s looking for ways to hurt you and be detrimental to your survival. Childish antics of a childish weapon if you don’t mind me saying so.” There was a small pause in his step as he closed his eyes, trying to ignore the hiss that had begun to rise in his head. Dis wasn’t taking kindly to the direction in which the conversation had gone.

“If you feel like you’re making an excuse, you might be. What she’s doing to you- it’s not healthy. If she were a physical being unattached to your mind I’d have personally seen you separated and cut contact. But weapons are sadly, a little too tied to us for that.” Once at the room he motioned for her to sit down. “I’m not an expert on the subject, nor am I an expert in relationships. But you’re going to end up dead if she keeps this up. Both as a friend, and a moon hunter, it’s my job to prevent that. So… I’m going to give you a set of orders. And, I’m going to give you some advice. Which do you want to hear first?”

As she got lead further and further away from the kitchen Ofelia couldn't help but keep looking back, her steps actually hesitating for a moment with debate over what to do (like go back and be warm, or follow). She was listening to Marcus, she really was, but his words were ringing hollow as her level of apathy rose dangerously high. Still she followed because he was leading her somewhere, it would be rude otherwise, and eventually they settled into the guest room where she'd snagged the blanket from.

The teen sat and listened, her body on the floor with her knees to her chin. It felt comfortable this way, she was likely to sleep on the floor after all, and that was that. "Say whichever ya wanna say, Ah'll listen regardless."

Marcus didn’t bother mincing his words. He was direct, tone indicating that he’d follow through and did indeed, consider the orders to be followed. “My orders at thus: I want you sometime in the next week to go talk to Allan or Simon about what Rue is doing to you. If either one of them says it’s not possible or they dismiss you, insist that it is an issue. Call me as a reference if you like. Secondly, you’re to begin a journal and record all the events that Rue has forced upon you. If she harmed you as she did when in golems, there is likely video of those events. I suggest you speak to Lance of the mist division to request copies. Thirdly… I want you to begin training using runic weaponry. It’s possible that once discussed, Rue will be placed in suspension if to keep you safe and you’ll be set with runics. Silence might be difficult and unnerving, but your mind was once your own. It’s a refuge. She’s invaded it and is trying to destroy it. Starting basic runic training will help you in case the worst happens and Rue is place in suspension as it were.”

It was a heavy set of orders, but he hoped it would help her. “Now as for advice… You need to stop pretending things are okay Ofie, because they’re not. I’m worried for you. You’re smarter than people give you credit, perhaps than you give yourself credit. You have all the potential to be a great hunter, and it worries me to see you like this. People care about you, even if they don’t believe you, they care about you. They worry like I do. You’re one of the nicest people on island. Reckless yes, a bit stubborn, but so am I- point is we all have our flaws but we still care Ofie. Remember that you have friends, that we care and even if we’re a bit misguided, or we don’t understand, we aren’t out to hurt you. And just.. if you ever need a place, Cass and I aren’t ones to turn people away. You ever need a place to get away, or to just escape, just call me to let me know or ask. I’ll talk to Cass about it so she’ll know as well. It’s a bit presumptuous on my part but you’ll be safe here Ofie. Maybe not completely, not from Rue, but I’ll do my best to keep you safe. Both as a moon hunter, and as your friend alright?”

"Uh." There were many things Ofelia could say about approaching Allan and Simon, none of them really positive. Allan would be hard to deal with at mildest, his....tendencies hard for Ofelia to grasp sometimes (even though she had lots of fun with him) and Simon? Well Simon would probably just pod her before even attempting to help her deal with it. Their conversation from before had her thinking that he could care less about the people, sort of like all he wanted was for Allan to be happy and for the division to run smoothly. Saying that she and her weapon didn't get along was a really quick way to either get transferred via Simon or get herself shoved back into a pod. For good.

Seeing as Ofelia loved her division a little too much to want to consider that, she just dropped that train of thought and moved along. "Ah've got license in all runics that Ah currently know of...'cept maybe pistols? Ah'd never seen 'em b'for though Ami was usin' 'em durin' the battle." They looked really cool and easy to use. Ofelia was all up for learning different runics, she was a Sun hunter so it was only natural she wanted to know everything and have the ability to do so, and the idea of dual wielding pistols sounded so exotic. Even if she totally skipped out on seeing Allan and Simon she wouldn't be skipping out on the learning runics.

"Also. . . .the silence isn' so scary considerin' she's bein' silent now. It'll still be like an extended vacation - though. . .if they band her, does that mean mah shield drops? Like it did wit' Rep?" She could only sort of remember that, Rep coming to say sorry and her feeding him food. He'd been cuffed, she sort of felt like he deserved it, and the pair moved on. Now she sort of wished she'd stabbed him in the throat with a knife while he sat there - it would have saved Deus so much trouble.

She could have been a savior, maybe, but those thoughts weren't her own. They were a voice in the back of her head, a cackle in her bloodstream and fingers against her brain.

His second bit, the "advice"? The redhead wasn't really sure of what all he meant - did he want her to trust him, really? Is that what he meant by depending on him to keep her safe? The last time she'd put her trust in someone, thought of him as a brother, she was bitterly betrayed by them in regards their choice of supporting someone else and calling her a liar. "As fer that all, Ah'll take under mah thought. Yer gonna have ta fergive me fer not sounded super enthusiastic - Ah may like people but Ah also have a hard time believin' their words. Guess Ah'm sommin'a a pt callin' kettles black."

He wasn’t sure. “I don’t know if they’ll band you Ofie. This is a lot different than a punishment. Cass could still hear Nicodemus. She still had some defenses. But… This is a whole other type of thing. Rep killed a civilian. This is a weapon trying to kill you.” He sighed, hands folding into each other. “I’ll tell you want Edith told me basically. You get it under control or deal with the consequences. I’m blunt. Like me, you DON’T have control of Rue. Dis has too much control and has become detrimental in unexpected ways, I thought I could handle him but I can’t. Soon enough I’m going to have to face the music on that case. You as well. We’re not the only ones at risk Ofie. Imagine if I lose control again on a medical escort mission. I’ll be putting not only the person we’re trying to save in jeopardy, I’m putting the whole team in jeopardy. As a sun, frankly they expect you to die, but not by weapon. If a weapon is trying to kill a hunter from the inside- Ofie, it’s likely that it won’t be you they kill.” He left the rest unspoken. Rue would be killed. A weapon trying to kill hunters, it wouldn’t be allowed.

“You can’t make excuses. Nor can I. Our weapons are indeed, beneficial to us, but to a point. When the cons outweigh the pros… It’s not worth it anymore. As much as it pains me, as much as… I do care about Dis, I know what he can and will do if I die and he’s handed off to another hunter without a word of warning. He’d do the same thing.” A low his, the vampire displeased at the idea.
“Start with the runics as precautionary. If you need a voucher you have me and no doubt Lance can dig up some tapes from the golems. Ask about the pistols and see if you can’t get basic clearance. They might have advanced daggers. Not the same, but, you’ve got basic training and I can help you learn to fight with them.”

He smiled a bit at the end however, nodding. “That’s okay. I spoke as a friend, nothing more. I want you to trust me, but I can’t make you. For now, just rest on it. We can talk in the morning. Just… no late night kitchen break downs. All I ask. I will need sleep you know."

"Rep could probably kill a whole lot more than jus' a civilian an' end up gettin' away wit' it." There was the bitterness, the cackles, the fingers on her brain again. Her words, sure, but not her mood pushing it forward. Normally Ofelia wouldn't say anything, it wasn't her place, but with a blanket about her body and Marcus asking her to trust him she just talked. "This island turns a blind eye ta things that shouldn' be ignored an' threaten everythin' else. Yanno, Simon told me Ah could get podded if Ah kept gettin' hurt cause Ah'd be bad for Sun? We can have a mass murderer runnin' 'round choppin' people up, but all Ah do is be clumsy wit'a weapon who hates me an' Ah get the pod threat? How is that fair?" She shook her head.

"They'd jus' pod me since Ah doubt they'd try an' waste resources on a broken hunter. Ah'm not...useful enough as a Sun. Ah'm not a ragin' psycho who enjoys the slaughter'a others. See, even if ya mess up, yer still a Moon an' still a hunter - everythin'd be okay fer ya. Someone would vouch an' ya'd be fine, they'd take care'a yer weapon 'cause yer good for sommin'." She shook her head again. "Ah'd get mah way voiched right inta a pod fer the rest'a mah life. Forever comatose, unless they jus' killed me or send me of hopin' wherever Ah go kills me."

The thought of Rue going into someone else's hands never even occured to her. "Ah'm certain she'd be fine if she was given ta a guy, but hell Ah dunno. they'd probably break her too jus' 'cause." That was all she had to say, all she wanted to say, and hand was waved in the air a moment later. "Ah dun wanna talk 'bout it anymore. Rue's kinda mah problem, always will be, an'. . . .Ah'm gettin' too scared ta ask fer help. We both know where Ah stand on this Island, where we both stand. We're not like Rep or Sasha - those who can do anythin' they place an' survive. Ah ******** up, Ah'm dead. No Allan ta save me, no Simon ta save me. End'a story."

She meant it, honestly, and looked at the bed as Marcus told her it was time for rest. "Ah don't trust ya, but Ah will not break yer kitchen. That's all fer now." Ofelia moved over and sat on the floor, her back in the corner. That was where she was planning on staying for now unless Marcus insisted otherwise.

Marcus closed his eyes. The island was as ever, ******** up. He knew that, and all anyone had to do was look at Thanksgiving to see just how rotten the place had gotten. But Ofelia had missed the point. The very large point. “Ofie-“ She was venting, and he let her, waiting until she finished. “I gave my orders Ofelia. I’m sorry but- As a moon? On field I’m not going to be able to see an ally. I’m going to see someone I have to watch out for more than others because she’s afraid to go talk to her lead. If you can’t talk to Allan or Simon, you have H or Clarice. If not them, Caelius or Mark. Not them? Edith or Charlotte. Aria and Lance are mists and I frankly don’t know how much they know. Lance might be worth it given his position but- I meant my orders Ofelia. You don’t get a choice with them. I believe you about Rue, but everything else is based on what YOU think. On what you think others see and do. On comparisons that cannot be held to the same standard.

It is your life, and you can control it…. but as a moon it’s not just my job to protect you, it’s to protect everyone. It’s why I confessed my failure to Edith after I promoted. Because if I didn’t I would be placing others in jeopardy. I won’t share your secrets Ofelia, not unless I have to. But I gave you orders. I expect them at least attempted. In a while I will follow up on you. And as much as I would hate to do it… If you begin to put others into jeopardy then it’s my duty to say something. That is part of what being a moon means. That I might sometimes… I’m in a hard position Ofie.”

He sighed getting off the bed. “I’m here for you. But I’m also here for everyone else too, even the assholes at the ******** sham of a thanksgiving. That’s part of what it means to be a moon hunter.” He got to the door, looking back once. “When I die, I want to die knowing I tried my best to protect everyone, even if they won’t ever know it.”

Ofelia didn't say anything else, instead she pulled the blanket over her face and curled into a ball. It was easier to sleep like that, pouting like a child who couldn't have their way and wouldn't be happy even if they did get it and so she forced herself to try and go to sleep. She'd need to sleep the whole night through if she didn't want to get up and become idle, trashing things to prevent her hands from become idle too, and soon she was out cold.

And then. . .

It was dark, she was cold, and the smell of hay and blood was all around. She couldn't really move, her head was spinning, and opening her eyes felt like someone was stabbing her over and over in the face. It was so much easier to keep her eyes closed but there was something there, someone there, and opening her eyes would keep her safe.

She couldn't no matter how hard she tried. It hurt too much.

All around were the screams of people she knew, or at least voices she recognized in almost every inch of her mind, and whenever she attempted to turn her head in that direction for a more clear sound the screaming stopped and the stabbing feeling in her face started again. When her head moved back to its normal position the stabbing stopped and the screaming started again.

It hurt too much to move, but the voices kept calling to her.

Her name was chanted again and again, over and over, and finally she forced her eyes open despite the pain that came.

It was a mistake to do so, there were creatures all around, screaming at her in the voices of her friends and loved ones. No one had been in danger, it was all a trap for her, and once they knew she'd seen them they grabbed her limbs and started to pull.

Her own scream started as fingers dug into her stomach and chest, her body being ripped apart and, before she could blacken out from the pain, her neck snapped.

Ofelia wasn't even aware of how loud she was screaming in Marcus's guest bedroom.

There were two things Ofelia would notice as she woke up to Marcus. One was that her wrists were behind her back, held by a very firm grip. The other thing was that the harsh odor of smelling salts lingered as the moon tossed them aside. Concern mixed with very determined look on Marcus's face.

"You're currently in the guest bedroom of my house. You came here after the thanksgiving dinner fiasco of your own will. We talked and I gave you orders. After you sleep. I just used smelling salts to wake you as you were screaming. I've restrained your wrists to prevent you from summoning your weapon on me." Establish events. Establish reality. "Now tell me. Was it Rue or was it a past event?" Find the cause of the dream if known. Figure it out.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 03, 2012 12:34 am
Ofelia didn't respond right away, the smell was horrible, and as the tears ran down her face from her right eye all she could do was tremble. Her hands were bound, she didn't try to struggle, but the sudden shock of waking up had her doing one thing she was getting very good at.

She started gagging really hard and after a few unsuccessful dry heaves where nothing came out she started gulping in air to calm down and perhaps stop shaking. It worked a little, she was still crying though, but at least her stomach hadn't come up onto the floor and blankets and everything else.

Gingerly she looked back and squinted at Marcus like she was trying to place him and his words but it was all just a bundle of confusion. Bits and pieces were getting through along with maybe laughter? Her dream must have been lingering but she answered anyway. "Ne...neither. Ah dunno." Rue hadn't been there to what she could see. None of the creatures had been boo hags (or anything she recognized); they were all just creatures she couldn't describe beyond 'terrifying'. "Maybe...past? There was hay, only....only Ah couldn' see it cause when. . ."

It was too soon, too early to talk about it, and Ofelia slumped forward against her knees with a sobbing wail.

There was a distinct weakness in Marcus that Desidero exploited. It was his ability to care and worry about others, it was his desire to help others that gave Dis his openings. It gave the weapon ways to break him down, chip away at him. Gagging, dry heaving, sucking in air, crying.
It hit every button of concern in Marcus.

As she tried to tell him it made it only worse as Dis gave off waves of satisfaction. THIS was what letting people in would do. This was what caring caused. She was weak, she was useless, a liability. Dis subtlety rattling off slurs towards the sun trainee. Weakness wasn’t a thing the vampire wanted to tolerate. Still, the moon hunter faught it back, bit back the hate his weapon exuded.
Arms around Ofelia, Marcus did the only thing that felt right. He simply gave Ofelia a hug. “I’m sorry Ofie.” A quite chant of an apology. He could only protect her so much, and the reminder that he couldn’t protect someone from everything…

It hurt.

As Marcus moved her into a hug Ofelia just felt content to sob into his arms. It had been a very long time since she'd had a nightmare. Usually her nights at Deus were full of empty sleep brought on by exhaustion and everything else that came with being a hunter trainee. So for her to have a dream like this so out of the blue really shocked her more than the dream itself. Was it from the events of the Thanksgiving meal? Or was she just becoming a weaker person without Rue in her head to constantly drive her down a road?

"Lucas....hic." She hiccuped as she called a name, a name she'd only said once before. A name she said many a time during her waking hours she didn't know. It was there on her tongue though, repeated again and again as she buried her face deeper into Marcus's chest. "Lucas, the barn's scary. Why'd ya leave me in there, Ah hate it." Perhaps she wasn't fully awake or aware, even with the aid of smelling salts. Or maybe it was she didn't care and was finally saying her piece that she'd been wanting to say for over a decade. "Lucas...."

Her sobs were growing quieter and the shaking of her shoulders was slowing down as her breathing softened.

She cried and Marcus didn't move much. Fine with letting her cry. She kept saying a name, and he was pretty sure there was no Lucas in the hunter ranks, meaning it was probably someone from the outside, before she'd come to the island. A lover perhaps? A friend? Family? She didn't say much past the guy's name.

As she started to calm down, Marcus didn't ask, only touching her shoulder to see if she'd fallen asleep.

Ofelia didn't stir inside Marcus's arms, nor was she really asleep. Instead she just kept staring off into the distance as she tried to fix reality with her dream. She'd been calling a name and yet now that she was growing more and more awake the dream was slipping from her tongue. It was frustrating, her shoulders trembled with the thought.

Eventually though her eyes did close and she slumped against the older man, her body heavy. She didn't want to sleep, she didn't want to dream. The barn was a place she'd never escape.
