(( OOC: Mkay, almost a month is a bit long between replies, so I'm gonna go ahead and move this along! If L1m3 finds the time to rejoin the race(Because I'm going with the guess of RL is interfering), we'll say her cheetah was JUST keeping up with the rest heart )) As they came into the back stretch, Dark Star became fully aware of the male on her flank. She was NOT losing to him... Yes, males were technically larger, with longer legs, and could thus go faster, but that was no reason for a female to lose to him. She set her jaw, brow furrowing as she focused her eyes on the prize and powered forward. She could just feel herself inching... Just a bit... A whole nose forward. Not much, but it felt like enough. She just had to maintain it around the next curve. She could still hear the other three in the leading pack, but had no idea how close they were to her. She'd know for sure if or when they passed her, which the pessimist side of her knew was still highly possible.

So that was the way it was going to be, eh? Both Dark Star and Storm Cat were trying to win a position in the lead, and Lucky Break wasn't about to be left out of it. She pushed herself to keep up with them, and tried to position herself so that she would at least have a chance to get past. It meant having to run closer to the outer edge of the track, and it meant more effort to stay alongside. But she'd have to risk it. They would never leave enough room for her to squeeze past on the inside so it was the only option unless she was willing to settle with third place or worse. And she wasn't going to let anyone win that easily! An adrenaline rush still kept her going, and she hoped it'd last across the finishing line.

The pack was thinning. As in almost every race she'd seen the really slow ones got left behind. The purple cheetahess was slightly surprised to find herself within the top five. Now came the real jockeying for position as they neared the end. Two were definately in the lead with a third moving to the outskirts. Cloud Turbulance weighed her options quickly.
She would do her best to stay right on the leaders' tails. One slip up from either and she'd squirt right on through. She sucked in deep breaths as she focused on the two tails belonging to Dark Star and Storm Cat waving in front of her. Cloud kept as close to them as she possibly could without tripping anyone.

Makoto shifted in his spot, watching intently. The big red male was doing really well, while the females were hard to read. He couldn't tell who was struggling to keep up the pace and who was doing it easily. It could still go any direction, but it was clear that five cheetahs were leading the field. The rest were trailing rather far behind. The monochromatic lion shifted again, laying down and crossing one paw over the other, blue eyes flashing with mirth. Oh, the winner would be well praised... He couldn't wait for the end of this to see who would show off good breeding. It was... Exciting. Very much so.

The biggest challenge of his strategy was that, since he meant to stay in the front since the start of the race, by the time they neared the end Storm Cat already felt ready to implode. Sort of. That was where training come in, he felt that he was doing well. Though he definitely was beginning to feel his body overheating, the male was quite confident if he kept this up, and managed to give one last boost at the appropriate time, he could win this race. At least if it depended only on him. He had not seen these females race before, and had no idea what they were capable of, which was why he glanced to the sides to keep tabs on them.

(( OOC: And again, we need to move this along sweatdrop This is the point where we should be rolling dice to determine placement in the race! If two people roll first(And hopefully neither one would be me xD ), then we'll set up a head-to-head race ICly the next day! But hopefully we don't have to do that... We'll need to adjust a bit, so the roll will be 1-4 sweatdrop )) The finish was in sight! Dark Start put on a last burst of speed and energy, stretching her limbs and body out as she raced to cross the line first. So close... She was so close... She could almost feel that finish line passing under her paws... At what seemed the last minute, her paws started to tangle, and by the time she got herself settled straight, dust surrounded her as three cheetahs passed her. She finally crossed the finish line, slowing down to a walk as her sides heaved, looking around for whoever the winner had been. She'd missed coming in first again, but she hadn't come in last - That was her one saving grace in her mind.

Finally, they were just about there.
Admittedly the biggest disadvantage of Storm Cat's strategy, which included trying to keep a steadily fast and increasing pace was he had little left in him for the last leg of the race. Stamina and training improved this but there was no guarantee.
Still, somehow he managed to power up as he approached the finish line, taking longer and faster strides each time. By the time he crossed the finish line he could hardly see, and he could barely feel his legs, it took him several strides to be able to safely slow down. Storm Cat's legs felt a little weak, so he couldn't really stand and had to keep walking, and the rest of his body felt like it was on fire.
The cheetah panted heavily as he turned back, having finally succeeded in slowing to a walk. It felt awkward to do now, but he couldn't sit still just yet. He blinked as his vision started to become more normal, and perked his ears to hear whatever the result of the race was. He was certain there had been no one in front of him when he crossed, at least that, but it was possible someone had come up beside him and tied it.

Lucky Break pushed herself to the very limit, but her position wasn't as good as it could be. It had been a gamble to try to pass the others on the outside of the track, and while she was close she wouldn't cross the finish line first. But the race wasn't over until it was over, and she kept running until she was sure she'd passed the finish line.
She could finally rest and catch her breath at the side of the track.

(Thanks for the quote. <3 )
Between one step and the next, Cloud Turbulance sensed the goal was near. Was it the roar of the crowds louder here? It was time for no holding back. Cloud dug down for that last bit. She had it somewhere, she just had to find it. The purple cheetahess gulped deep breathes as she shoved forward trying to take the lead. Briefly she noted a dark one fall behind and did her best to swirve around.
Then for an instant she hovered at the goal line; then it flashed past. Cloud let her pace slow. She sucked in her breath as she walked slowly and turned to see who had won.

The monochromatic lion rose on his paws, letting out a roar as the cheetahs crossed the line. When all had settled and the last speed-cat had crossed and stopped, Makoto stepped down from his position above them. "Congratulations to all of you!" He smiled at the five that had come in last. "Even the ones who didn't come in first... You finished a race, and proved that you CAN race." He looked to Storm Cat, eyes shining with a bit of mirth. "You have proven that you are well-deserving of your Champion status, Storm Cat. Every bit the fast cheetah!" He then went to the three females who had come in very close to him. "As for you three, you raced VERY well against Storm Cat AND each other! Lucky Break, Cloud Turbulance, may the wind continue to lift you!"
He then looked to Dark Star, seeing an anger in her gold eyes. "Dark Star, you need not be so hard on yourself. Learn to race for the fun of it, that's how our history proclaims the pride to have started! You've earned your meal and protection." He then looked to the rest of the feild. "I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow when the pride gathers together! We'll be having a meeting about possible new ranks so that, if racing isn't your thing, you may branch out and make a new career!"OOC: Well, that took longer than expected xd Both the race itself and me doling out prizes... The second part is because iFail. Hopefully future races will be much more streamlined ~ And now for the prizes! First place: wooga Paes You have won Binzari! Her uncert and old cert for you! You may change her name if you want, that is up to you! heart Her colorist is Ameh! You'll need to get a JRP for her - If you want, you can use the Ranks and Things RP going on heart Second place: Annchen I know the dice said your cheetah came in third, and mine and magna's tied for fourth, but because of outside circumstances having, from the looks of it, eaten l1m3(And I hope life settles down for her heart It happens to ALL of us at some point), we'll have to delclare Lucky Break as the second-place winner, which leads to... Third place: magnadearel Cloud Turbulance has been declared the third-place winner! Since it'd be silly for my own cheetah to come in third xd As mentioned before, that means Annchen gets 100k and magna 50k 3nodding Congratulations, you guys!
