"That sounds exhausting."
Nate was not much for school, but he never had been. Thus the whole dropping out thing. It had been more than that, though. It just was not something he liked to think about. His life had not been all that easy, until coming to Destiny City and finding his dad. Now things were pretty cushy, even with his duties as a senshi.
Hell, that was just a really fun part of it.
He couldn't complain about his life these days, and he was glad for that. He was content in his place in this war, and though having a real family bothered and annoyed him a lot, it was not something he really needed to change yet. Maybe once that baby arrived, he'd consider moving out. Or getting a job. Or something.
"I don't get the point of pouring all that effort into something that has, really, no pay off. Who cares what your grades are? Besides you, I guess, but that isn't going to help you in the long run. I dropped out of school when I was in high school anyway. My dad wants me to go back but... I dunno. I don't see the point."

"Colleges care," she said with a blink. Her brows knit as her lips drew to a thin line. "I want to get into a good college to get a good job afterwards. Even if I do want to major in fashion design." She shrugged lightly and sighed. School wasn't for everyone, Serenity had to remember that. It was of importance in her family to get good grades, actually do something with your life besides just getting by. She wanted to fall in love with her job, but in order to do that, she needed to know the basics and what not. "But... It is exhausting, honestly. Cramming, late nights, all nighters.. During final seasons you never really have time for your friends or even yourself." She stretched herself out, then, arms above her head, legs straightening in her chair. "Looking back on it, I might feel the same, that it has no pay off. For now, though, I'm content enough to think it will have a major impact in my life."

Nate stared at her.
Majoring in fashion seemed like a strange and silly choice, but then, he had never even gotten through high school so what did he know? The very last thing he cared about was what looked good to colleges, because he had never applied for one. He should, his father wanted him to finish his GED and get a better education for himself, but Nate did not have the proper motivation for something like that.
He just didn't see the point.
Anyway, he was a senshi. He didn't have time to worry about reading a pointless, arbitrary book so he could answer inane, brainless questions about it just to prove that he was not an idiot to someone whose opinion would never matter to him. He'd never really had much respect for the education system.
"Well, if that's what makes you happy I guess. I think I'll spend my time having much more fun, you know? Why take tests and feel stress someone else is creating just for the sake of seeing you suffer when you can be out doing whatever you want? I'll never understand you scholarly types. It's like you're working to impress someone." He sounded a little unconvinced by his own argument.

"Maybe I am trying to impress someone. I want to do something with my life! Something that people will remember me for. I don't want to be famous or anything, but... I don't know, I think it would be nice to be remembered after I'm dead." Ew, death was such a grim topic. She needed to change that quickly. "But never mind that. I know it's not for everyone, but I want to give it a shot. If it's not for me, I'll just... drop out or something and find a job I'm good at that doesn't require a diploma." Like retail. Retail could be good if things didn't pan out. Serenity shrugged a little and threaded a hand through her own hair, fluffing the white strands by shaking them. "Well.. I'm sorry I spilled coffee all over you. I hope you're not seriously hurt from it." Though by the way he was talking, he wasn't in any pain, which was good. "I suppose I need to get back to studying..." She eyed the books on the table before looking back at Nate. "It was very nice meeting you, though!"

Nathan thought about that. No one would remember him, despite all the lives he saved. Senshi were secret. More than that, they were the bad guys, most times. That was what really sucked about the gig. He wasn't in it for fame or praise, really, but sometimes it would probably feel pretty nice to know people would remember him in some way, good or bad.
But he had written that off, and the thought mostly just hit him as lame now.
It was easier to brush it off that way, at least.
"Yeah, I guess," he said, when she said it was nice to meet him. That was rarely true. "Thanks for the food." He picked up what he wanted to take with him, waving over his shoulder. "See you around, then."
And he might, too, though the next time she saw him she probably wouldn't recognize him. He would keep her safe, whether she knew it or not. That was his gig, his lot in the history of the world. It worked for him.
