Turning back at the question, he smiled at the other Lifer. "Norse is one of the mother languages for Germanic languages, which is in turn one of English's parent languages. Regal, my partner, is a Gryphon from English folklore. I figured I'd research something he was familiar with, to make it easier. Latin's next though." His canter was fast, but easy to understand. Simple logic to him.
He thought for a second, wondering if he should explain why he was studying languages. No, Melvin could figure that out, right?
"What kind of...thing did your weapon use to be?" He asked curiously/ He'd actually never thought to ask anyone that.

"So your weapon doesn't speak English?" He asked, wondering how that worked. He just assumed that if the weapon could talk into your head, language would somehow be twisted and translated just by thoughts. That seemed very difficult to have someone speaking in a foreign language in your head all day.
"My weapon used to be a Mongolian Death Worm. She says she was rather impressive and large. I looked it up. It's...not a pleasant image." Not to mention it was a massive worm of death!

"Hrm? Oh, no. He speaks English very clearly." He sung it clearly too, Lex thought - which earned him a smug look from the Gryphon. "It's just that he's familiar with Norse as well, due to it being the root language of his own tongue."
Taking the information in, Lex made a note to look up the Mongolian Death Worm. Sounded...unpleasant. "Ah, that's how Regal is. Thinks he's the biggest and the baddest thing to ever exist."

"Has to be a Halloween thing. Everyone wants to be the scariest thing around." He heard Saliva complain that she was, and the biggest. Size was very important to her for whatever reason.
"Seems a lot of trouble just to please your weapon?"

Lex nodded, agreeing with the other man's assessment. Yes, it was definitely a Halloween thing - trying to be big and bold and intimidating. Regal talked about it daily.
"Ah...yeah, you have to jump through hoops to please him, really." Lex's smile twitched a bit at that, his eyes going off to the side for a second. "Gryphons are able to sing at high ranges, and if I don't do what he wants, he sings in such a high key I get a migraine. So...it's kind of worth it."

"I'm glad mine doesn't sing. She just talks...a lot." All the time, even when he was trying to sleep. He only recently started to talk to Saliva to keep her satisfied, and late at night he would just read to her in order to keep her from getting restless in her head. Luckily, Sci-fi stories had plenty of creatures in it to keep her entertained, especially if there were deserts and death in them. She liked when the human officers died. It sometimes freaked him out.
"I try to keep her under control through sparring." She also reminded him to eat - trying to make him eat 4 times a day instead of 3 times.

"Ah, yeah. Reading helps, I've noticed." Regal certainly did shut up once Lex was studying something - maybe he found interest in the human body, brain, and runic technology. Or maybe it just kept him occupied. Either way, it was a good strategy.
He laughed at the sparring bit, though. That was when Regal got especially demanding - partially because Lex held him wrong, and partially because 'battle is one of the highest held traditions.'
"Regal...loves battle. He gets too excited while sparring."
