"I know. I feel like things might be different if I hadn't been there, but. Well." She busied herself picking a few bits of lint from her scarf, the fine wool of her skirt. "There's no use living in the what-if's and what-might-have-been's. It's a waste of time."
Sasha listened to Ami speak about the new trainees, a slow smile spreading across her lips.
"I've met Lex. He's very.. hands on." Sasha shook her head and waved a hand, looking amused. "I haven't met Solia, but I've spoken with Melvin. He's smart, but he's a bit of a b***h. And I've not yet met Nevada." Sasha lifted her brows. "I've been busy with golem research, so I haven't been as social as I should be, I suppose."
Sasha's expression softened at Ami's final question.
"It was messy. Very, very messy, and Jerry.. well. He didn't take it well - I'm afraid that I didn't make things easy on him, but." Sasha shrugged and pursed her lips, "Things are better this way. Wash and I have gotten close - and we're trying to keep it something of a secret, for personal reasons."

Ami didn't want to know what Sasha meant by "hands on." It was creepy, and she didn't like it.
She decided to skip the subject entirely. "Wash?" Ami asked, completely puzzled. Wash and Sasha had certainly seemed friendly enough in the dungeons, but she thought it was simply a mutual bond created by the tragedy of the dungeons. A thought occured to her. "Sasha, you didn't ... leave Jerry for Wash ... did you?" A dark cloud grew around Ami, her mind brooding. She never thought Sasha was ... well ...
"I'm sorry," she said quickly, shaking her head. "It's none of my business, I shouldn't pry." Maybe because part of her didn't want to know if Sasha was capable of that. "Golem research?" she asked with a polite smile. Best to just stick to a subject she knew wasn't risky. Simple research. Easy enough.pinchmonster aahhhhh sorry i forgot to tag QnQ <3

Sasha tensed. Did Ami really think she was that sort of woman? "No. I didn't leave Jerry for Wash. I would never have done such a thing. Jerry and I were.. things had ended between Jerry and I even before ... even before Wash and I -- I am not that kind of person, Ami." Her mouth tightened. "I am not a heartbreaker, a cheater." She ignored the question about golems, feeling tense, upset by the fact that her integrity had been called into question.

Ami breathed a heavy sigh of relief, the tension in the air returning to a normal, casual air. The only bad part was that she could see the offense Sasha took in the statement. Ami felt ashamed for even thinking for a moment that Sasha would do something so vile.
"I ... I'm sorry, it's just ... You know my experience with such situations," she looked down, averting her eyes from Sasha.
Her voice dropped to a low whisper. "I didn't mean any offense." Sasha was one of the rare people Ami genuinely didn't want to offend. Whether that was a compliment or not was another question entirely.

Sasha's demeanor changed at that point, and she gave a long, low exhale. "It's a sensitive subject. Jerry has gone.. I don't know. He's not the person I thought he was, and I suppose the same could be said for me." Her shoulders dropped. "I know, Ami, I'm.. I'm sorry." She was thankful that the atmosphere shifted back into something more comfortable. "Yes, ah.. to answer the question on golems. I.. I'm working on some notes for a new golem prototype. Something that isn't a student. Something smaller, and less likely to be discovered as long as everything goes to plan."

"Ahh, that sounds interesting," she commented, happy to change the subject and leave the old one behind. Yet something still nagged at her that the whole situation with Jerry wasn't quite right. It wasn't her place to intrude though. As long as Sasha wasn't hurt, Ami wouldn't interrupt.
She looked at Sasha and said, "But suppose the other side figured out we had tiny golems? On the contrary, they could become even more likely to be discovered." She held out her hands, explaining as she gestured. "Say we made golems shaped like bugs. If Halloween figured it out, you'd have them eradicating the bugs left and right. Bugs stand out quite a bit from the average student. You'd need a way to disguise them."
Ami held her tongue for a moment, realizing Sasha had been working on this for a while it sounded like. She'd probably already encountered that error, and was working on it. Ami gave a little laugh and said, "But you've probably thought of that!" She smiled and said, "If you need any help, let me know?"

Sasha let out a rough chuckle, shaking her head. "Minipet golems, Ami. Believe me, I've thought of everything - and a minipet golem prototype is the only thing I've been able to come up with. Overall, I think it will work well - but I won't be able to really see how well until everything comes together and I'm able to see them in action." She paused. "The offer means a lot. I'll be sure to find you if I need help. So far it's going pretty flawlessly, but I'm just at the start of things so." Sasha shrugged. "We'll see." Sasha cleared her throat briefly before offering Ami a slight smile. "I should let you get back to whatever you were doing."

Ami really did admire Sasha's intelligence. At least she wasn't bumbling through the project- thinking of things ahead of time. Ami had been a minipet once, so she couldn't say the idea was completely unfathomable. Honestly, it was a pretty logical step forward. Good on you Sasha.
"Ah- yes," Ami said quickly, gathering up the books she'd come here for. "And I should let you get back to your research." Ami smiled, turning to leave. "Good luck with your minipets! And .. you can come to me if you need anything? Not just with minipets."
Of course, Ami wondered if Sasha would even take up the offer. Ami certainly wouldn't have. Oh well, it was out of her hands. With that, she left.
