Well, in the old days Yareha would probably have been a dead man by this point. Or at least restrained and about to be slain. Banishment was better than that...right?
The eagle watched the proceedings silently, aware that his presence was no longer necessary to the events at hand. He wondered what would the pride would want of him now...or if they would want him at all.

Like all of the important lions sitting there to observe the proceedings, Thoth watched as Baba'nyota got up and started them on their way out. They were a fair distance away before the king turned his eyes from the departure to the eagle.
"Latitare," he said, finally cracking a small, appreciative smile, "We are very grateful for your help."

The eagle turned his attention to the King and spread his wings in a formal bow. He wasn't certain there was anything to be said on his part at this time. Work wasn't always fun and there were bad times just as there were good. Whatever point the King wished to make, he would, and that would be the end of this.

"We have no more favors to ask of you, though you're welcome to stay in our lands for as long as you please," he said, nodding in return to the bow, "I think you've earned a nice, long break."
Another smile and he turned back to stand by his queen. This was not a happy start to the night but it was over. Some on-duty guards knew what was going on, so while Baba'nyota was the only escort to the border, they were not really alone on their trip. There would also be a more vigilant guard for the next few days to make sure Yareha really left.. but it was, for the most part, over with. And that was a relief.

Latitare bowed again and took that as his dismissal, launching himself back into the sky, under the bright moonlight. He was...free. Again. He supposed that in the future they might find more uses for him...but then again, many of his chicks still made their nests in the area, and the Mwezi'Johari might prefer a younger bird.
Not to mention that little scene had left a bad taste in his mouth. As had betraying Yareha to the pride's rulers. Yes it had been his job, but Latitare thought of the white lion as a friend.
He nodded himself, and angled his flight for the border.
The border was not usually clearly delineated. And he had taken pleasure in blurring the lines, particularly when he spoke to passing rogues. Tonight, however, it could not have been more clear where the Mwezi'Johari's territory ended for there Baba'nyota stopped and watched him. Yareha nodded to the older lion who was, after all, just doing his job, and kept walking.
Leaving his pride for good.
Except that made it no longer his, now didn't it? Well, in that case, he'd probably been the one to disown them first, by rejecting the very basis of their religion. Which meant that he shouldn't be so nervous, shouldn't fear that bad things would happen to him simply because he hadn't been born beneath the full moon. Right?
Well, either he was right or they were right. Only time would tell him now.
Latitare had no trouble at all tracking Yareha's progress away from the pride. When the white lion began to slow in the grey light of predawn, quite a distance away from the Mwezi'Johari, that was when the eagle descended and landed in front of him.
"So, where are we off to?"
Yareha stared at his unexpected companion. He'd been hurt when Latitare had betrayed him, but their relationship had been built with the understanding that the bird's sole reason for hanging around was to spy on him. He'd expected the eagle to be rewarded by Thoth and stay in the Mwezi'Johari.
The bird wasn't supposed to be here, apparently intent on accompanying him.
"I have no idea where I'm going," the white lion replied slowly. "Don't you have somewhere to be?
Latitare cocked his head at his friend. "Sure I have somewhere to be - right here, with you. And I say again, where are we off to?"
He knew that he was leaving his chicks and Lila without a word, and to be fair, he didn't really mind. Lila had been a flashy pair of wings, a lovely aerial acrobat and a mate of the opportune moment. No more than that. It was a shame if she had chosen to read more into it during the course of raising their chicks, but sometimes these things happened.
Latitare simply didn't think he could stay in the Mwezi anymore, not after what he'd seen and done. And the best way to make it up to Yareha was to stick with him and help as best he could.
The lion blinked. He'd yet to be able to win an argument with the eagle and Latitare was giving him a look that said he'd lose any and every attempt to get rid of him. Finally he smiled and shook his head.
"That way," Yareha answered, nodding towards the rising sun. "We go east."
