Eva took some time to catch her breath when Ami ducked behind the rock, doing a few quick stretches to loosen some of her tenser muscles.
She waited until the other girl was reloaded before moving forward, twirling her staff like a baton. As she lunged forward to attack--a moderate hit that she had intended to aim at Ami's shoulder--the other trainee's sudden question caused her to stumble, effectively causing her to miss the shoulder and drive her staff into the fear shield above her stomach instead.
Staggering back, Eva steadied herself by planting her weapon in the ground and leaning on it. "Shoot! Sorry--are you okay?" There was a pause, and then she smiled, "And no, I think you misunderstood our relationship! Puppy is very dear friend to me, but it's not like I'm his girlfriend."

Relief flooded Ami's brain as Eva admitted they weren't dating. Ami wasn't sure if she was ready for Otto with a girlfriend. The day Otto started dating was the day Ami got about 20 more worry lines.
She rubbed her sides and elbows, both a little bruised from Eva's fun. "Ah that's good to hear," Ami admitted. Her eyes went wide and she shook her head. "Oh-Oh I didn't mean you were inadequate or insufficient somehow." She rubbed her temples. This was much hard than originally intended. "I just worry about him is all."
It was somehow embarrassing and exposing to admit this to Eva. At least she hoped the girl wouldn't think her speech rude. "You fight well," she said, attempting to smooth it over.

Eva blinked blankly at Ami before bursting out into giggling, clearly having taken no hard feelings at the other girl's relief. Aah, so was that what had worrying her? She lifted a hand at the reassurance and shook her head, the corners of her lips turned upwards in a smile. "No, no, don't worry about it!" She assured her with an airy wave, "And I think it's sweet that you worry about him. You kind of sound like...a big sister or something, I guess?"
The sudden compliment caught her off guard, but then she chuckled and shook her head, "You're pretty good yourself! Though er--sorry about some of those hits. You're okay, I hope?"

Ami waved Eva's comment out of the air like a bad odor. "No! No I told you we're just next door neighbors." Even though Ami completely adored the idea of being Otto's big sister, she would never EVER assume that title. No, it was too close, too intimate. Next door neighbor was fine for now.
A sigh escaped her mouth as Eva apologized for the beat up. She was so sick of always hearing about people being "sorry" for wrecking her s**t. "Stop. I'm fine," she grumbled, brushing herself off.

Chuckling, Eva gave a little shrug. "If you insist!" She wasn't going to push it...but really, it wassweet that Ami seemed to be looking out for Otto. Of course, she wouldn't say that aloud to the girl--not again, anyways. She didn't seem like the type who would appreciate being calling cute or sweet.
She automatically opened her mouth to apologize, only to pause and clamp it back shut. After a moment of silence, she grinned and offered a hopeful, "Well, I'd love to spar with you again in the future, if you're every interested?"

"I suppose ... Maybe when I'm a little less ... less." A cryptic message she would have explained, had her phone not started buzzing with an alarm.
Was it that time already? She had to clock in- seriously? Ami groaned. She'd wasted her morning reading time sparring with this spritely girl. "Sorry I have to go. It was nice meeting you ... ah ... Eva." Ami would probably forget the name minutes later, but it was at least a compliment thus far.
With that she hurried off, already late to work.
