"Makes sense. So it makes a big difference," Jordan mused. There was half a bag of powdered sugar behind the can of salt, and he pulled it out triumphantly. "Here we go." He paused for a moment when Ofelia mentioned Julie, smiling a little sadly. "Her cooking was terrifying, but I miss her anyway." He put the powdered sugar down beside the cream cheese, then paused as he spotted the cookbook, picking it up. "Was this hers?"

"Yeah, Allan gave it ta me a while ago. Ah been thinkin' 'bout usin' it but Ah dunno if that's a good idea. Lots'a stuff in there ain't makin' sense no matter how Ah try an' go 'bout readin' it so fer now Ah carry it 'round as good luck." Good luck was a weird thing to think that a book owned by a woman who'd been eaten by centipedes could provide but who was anyone to argue with Ofelia? They sky would turn green before they managed to win an argument with her if she decided to get serious.
With only half a bag of powdered sugar she couldn't make as much as she wanted, not if she wished for it to stay sweet and not taste like cream cheese, and so the teen halved the packages she'd taken out and tossed it into a bowl. "How have ya been, by the way? S'been a long while since we talked, Ah think. The golem...stuff."
Yeah, not gonna mention Rue.

"Yeah, uh. I'd recommend not using some of the ingredients a few of those recipes call for." Jordan eyed the book; in spite of missing Julie, he didn't miss much of her cooking. He remembered quite clearly what some of those recipes involved. "But it's cool that you're keeping it safe." "I'm doing all right. Alive and capable of smiling, anyway; that counts as pretty good in my book. How about you?" Jordan poked around in the cabinets, finding nothing of particular use. "Think they got a mixer somewhere around here?"

"Ah'm doin' okay, can't really complain. Met a bunch'a new people, tryin' hard ta learn more 'bout mahself an' maybe make a few friends?" Ofelia only shrugged her shoulders at the question about the mixer, answering it while she was talking, and she started digging through the cupboards. "Ah only ever use the hand-held beaters fer mah stuff so we'll see what they got." There was something fun to be said about doing things with one's own hands and not relying on a machine but Ofelia was old-school like that and many people didn't have the amount of patience for cooking and baking that she did.
"How is...everythin' wit'cha an' yer guys? Is Rep healin' up okay? How's Harrison?" Ofelia didn't really know what else to talk about, her own personal life was still a bit rocky thanks to Melvin's interfering, and it was a little unsettling for her to think she knew so little about Jordan. While it wasn't like her to try and get into his personal life it didn't hurt to ask about mutual acquaintances, right? Of course she did feel bad for doing so and her cheeks colored themselves as she finally found and pulled out a mixer. "Ya dun have ta answer if ya don't wanna, Ah'm jus' bein' kinda nosy sorry."

"Sounds pretty good. I've been keeping busy with research and duties a lot, other than training." Jordan nodded to her comment about the mixer. "Good wrist strength training, mixing that stuff by hand." "Yeah, Tracey's got him patched up and back to normal," he said. "Harrison's been training as a field medic, so he's out at the fields pretty often too. It suits him." He chuckled. "I'm not offended or anything. We're all a little nosy."

"Ah'm...glad ta hear yer all doin' better an' are happy." Ofelia was talking stiffly. She probably didn't notice it or was doing her best to ignore it and the teen went about getting things together into the mixer. The package of cream cheese. The powdered sugar. It all went in with one solid go and she flipped the switch.
Which, of course, made it go off entirely in her face. Apparently during her time of mini-panic talking to Jordan she'd forgotten to set the mixer properly and it wasn't locked in place. The results were obvious as she was splattered with the powdered sugar and chunks of cream cheese, leaving the teen to stand in a stunned silence. " . . . . yanno, Ah don't think Ah've ever used one'a these b'for. Ya think anyone would notice?" There was a joking, teasing tone to her voice as she looked at Jordan and grinned. "It didn't get'cha did it?"

"Thanks." Jordan smiled. And then there was cream cheese everywhere and he couldn't help laughing. "I think you gotta hit the lock switch before turning it on," he advised teasingly, and retrieved a clean dish towel for her. A few small spatters of cream cheese had reached him, and he wiped one off his shirt and another off his cheek, glanced around, then licked his thumb clean. "Well. It tastes good," he said. "Is it salvageable?" He peeked into the bowl to see how much was left.

Ofelia took the towel with a humble thanks and started to try and wipe her face. It only made it worse with the white streaks all over her tan skin and the teen had to turn her face away as she sneezed from the sugar. This most certainly was not one of her more glamorous days in the kitchen and she would have been embarrassed if it wasn't for the fact the incident had her mildly pissed off.
A pissed off Ofelia in the kitchen meant she was gonna make it happen and that was that.
Jordan was asking questions, that was good, and the teen looked towards the bowl and its contents. "Hmm, looks like it. Ah barely got started b'for it kicked so we can try an' mix it up an' see what happens." A sneaky grin was put into place as she properly locked the mixer down before turning it on. When it started to go she did take a step back, just a precaustion after all, but when nothing happened she moved to where she needed to be. "The best thing 'bout cookin' is even accidents can turn inta sommin' good. This recipe is simple 'nough anyway that ya can't really make mistakes that are unable ta be fixed." She tried to rub more cream cheese off her face but eventually gave up when all it kept doing was smearing.
She let the mixer go for a few minutes before she switched it off and looked at the mixture on the inside. "Are there any shapes ya wanna make? These things are made so ya can do the traditional round ones, smashed wit' a fork fer shape, or ya can mold 'em inta anythin' ya want." Ofelia looked to Jordan with a bit of childish excitement, hoping he wanted to do something cool and not lame like stupid round shapes. Maybe she should have said they could only come in molded forms, like a dog or tree or entire nativity scene.

"My oldest cousin claimed it was like doing science in the kitchen, but I could never get the labs right in Chemistry, so I'm a little wary." Jordan chuckled. "Maybe if you wet the towel a little," he suggested when Ofelia gave up on getting the cream cheese off. He considered the question. "We could try animal shapes?" he said.

"Animal shapes, got it. Though first we gotta wash our hands an' powder 'em wit' a bit'a powdered sugar or flour. Ya don't wanna have the animals stickin' ta us, right?" Ofelia took herself over to the sink and washed her hands, totally ignoring her face because she was being bratty and then went on to try them with a clean towel. Her next step was back over to the mixture where she looked around for something. "Oh, we gotta also color 'em sommin' and maybe add flavor? Ya got any preferences?"
She had green and red food coloring, as well as blue and yellow, and there were different flavorings out too. Peppermint, mint, vanilla, all together. The choice was really up to Jordan since they had to get the flavor in before they did anything else. Personally Ofelia would eat anything and everyone because ~tasty~.

Jordan's mouth quirked as Ofelia decided that she so didn't care about the cream cheese on her face. He obediently followed her over to the sink and washed his hands as well, then returned to the work area. "If we grab some bowls we could separate it and make more than one color," he suggested helpfully.

"That...is an awesomely amazing good idea okay let's do that." The teen skipped away from the counter towards one of the cabinets, where she proceeded to pull out an additional bowl and several other utensils. She'd handle one set, it was fair enough for Jordan to handle the other, and a grin of childish delight was on her face as she got back over to the mixing station. After a rather semi-successful attempt the powdered sugar cream cheese mixture was divided (un)evenly between the two bowls with Ofelia feeling generous enough to give Jordan the larger portion. It was his first time making these things after all, it would only be fair that he get more to play with.
Taking into the account all the colors she had Ofelia grabbed a bottle of each one, raising it over her small set. "Ah'm gonna color mine brown an' flavor it peppermint, 'cause why not. Brown's mah favorite color an' since we're makin' peppermints only makes sense ta use the proper flavor. Yer welcome ta use whatever one ya wanna though 'cause yer the boss'a yer batch." And as if to show she was serious she dropped in a few splashes of each color and started to stir with a spoon, pleased indeed that the colors turned brown. "Ah like brown 'cause it's the result'a all colors bein' mixed tagether. No matter whatcha add, it usually always comes out brown. Makes me think that no matter what happens Ah can always stay jus' who Ah am an' not have ta worry 'bout it." Something on her face itched (probably the drying cream cheese) and she rubbed her forehead with the back of her hand.
