"No!" No, no, no, no. Aurora bit her lower lip and fidgeted, played with her skirt. He got her all wrong. All wrong. "I have tons of faith in myself! I just-- don't like violence. For reasons.. I have my reasons! I never want to hurt anyone." She averted her eyes to the ground. "I know it might sound like I'm hopeless. Maybe I'm a lost cause. But I do want to learn how to defend myself. I just.. can't willingly.. do it.." And that's when her body started shaking.

Remarque lowered his hand, instead more interested in Aurora's display than he was in goading her to hit him. "I don't think you're a lost cause," he said; she hadn't made him think she was too far gone. She was just a girl who didn't like to fight, right? What girl wanted to mess up her hair or break a nail?
"But I do want to know why it is you can't defend yourself." From his perspective, it looked like she was her own worst enemy right now. He couldn't understand wanting something and not being able to do it—that wasn't how he lived his life. If he wanted to do something, he did it. He pushed himself as hard as he could, worked his a** off, and got what he wanted. He softened his voice, hoping that might calm her a bit. Her shaking was not at all what he'd been expecting and made him wonder how much she wasn't telling him about her reasoning. "Why can't you willingly do it?" he asked, tone as gentle as he could consciously make it.

"B-because I..." No. She couldn't say it. The girl shook her head. He wanted the truth but she didn't want to talk about it. It just made her so.. so... "I witnessed a really bad crime," she finally admitted, her voice quiet as she still shook. "I don't wanna talk about it." Hopefully that would be enough for him. Otherwise she just didn't know how to explain it.

It was with a heavy sigh that Remarque decided to dismiss the topic. Naturally his curiosity had been piqued, but the last thing he wanted to do was send Aurora into some sort of mental breakdown. "All right. I understand. I won't push it, just as long as you promise me that you'll work on it."
When it came to trauma, Remarque wasn't exactly the best person to offer condolences; emotionally, it was hard to shake him, and he'd seen enough violence in his time that he'd been nearly completely desensitized. "…Is there someone you can talk about? A psychiatrist or something?" Not that he'd trust a shrink with anything, but still. "…Someone to help you work on it, help you move past whatever's got you all caught up. That way there doesn't come to be a time where you desperately need to defend yourself and find yourself absolutely frozen?"

"Ah.. Uhm.." Aurora puckered her lips and smacked them. This was a part of her life that she had hoped to forget entirely, locked away within the recesses of her brain and glossed over with happiness and hobbies of love. It has been a wonderful four years. But now as a senshi things began to reemerge. Being a senshi was both a blessing and a curse, it seemed. "I saw someone after it happened and, ahm, talked to him for a few months before my big brothers pulled me out. They said it wasn't worth it. I hadta toughen up! they said. So.. I just sorta... concentrated on some hobbies instead." She blinked. "Ahaha.. anyway, I can't afford a psychiatrist or a gym membership or whatever on my own. I guess I could get a part-time job but my graaaaaades are getting wooooorse. Bluh." Somehow, talking like that returned her cheerful tone. Even talking about crappy grades. Somehow!

"Toughening up is a good idea" Remarque agreed, though somewhat familiar with the working of the human mind, he knew there was only so much you could force yourself to do. Unless you were the sort of person, like Remarque, who wasn't going to let anything get in your way. Ever.
"…Though you can't build on a damaged foundation. Burying a problem isn't at all the same as resolving it, and if you need help, you have only to ask. Money should never be an issue for you, not when your health and safety is involved." Remarque was rather stingy with his money—and perhaps a little greedy. He was conservative, and only spent when he needed.
…Unless Raven was involved, because then all bets were off.
Still, ignoring her—and fast food—he had saved, and invested. Between his job, his stock marketing, and filching the pockets of those he drained dry, he had amassed a decent amount of money. Ideally, one day he'd move out to a nice house, and drive an even nicer car, and eat the finest fast food money could buy…but he still had a lot of time, and there were things that were important now.
If a few sessions with the gym and a meeting with the psychiatrist was the difference between a decent senshi and a good senshi, he was willing to invest in Aurora. There were those in the group more well off than others, and he figured if they had the money to spare, it would be put to good use.
"If either of those things would be of benefit to you, they will be provided," he insisted.

Aurora just stared at Remarque as he spoke. Wide-eyed. One of those deer caught in headlight moments but instead of the deer fearing impending doom it was the deer welcoming the car with open arms-- er, hooves. Deer feet. Clip cloppers. WHATEVER. "Uhm, I--" She wasn't exactly sure what to say either. All of these people that she had met were just so.. kind and generous. If talking to a psychiatrist would help her get over her fears, to help her become a better senshi and overall person, it would be the greatest thing ever. All that time filling her heart with love and happiness; no matter how much she filled it just couldn't cover up the scars once they were reopened. Aurora sniffed back some tears and smiled at the vice-captain. "Yes! Yes please!"

Remarque stared at the girl for a moment, and then slowly nodded. She was sniffling, and given the situation, he figured that could only mean one thing. Tears were not appropriate in any interaction, and he looked away a bit too eagerly, pretending as though there were something interesting in the dark recesses of the room. What could he do though, demand she compose herself? He offered no form of teasing or scolding for her tears, just returned his gaze to her and nodded with a bit more conviction.
"Then we'll get something set up for you in the very near future. If you've got a preference for who you speak to, feel free to make it heard. I won't do the research for you, but I will see to it that you are provided with all you need. I know little about who is recommended in the psychiatric field, however I can recommend a decent gym. Membership, self defense classes. Just let me know and I'll get the money for you."
Besides—picking pockets had become second nature. Draining energy was the perfect method to subdue any target—and, hell. It wasn't like they needed money in mirrorspace anyway, right?

Remarque probably didn't expect the great big tacklehug that came from the younger girl. But here they were - with Aurora leaping forward and drawing her arms around him like there was NO TOMORROW. "Yes! Please! I'd love a recommendation!" She'd figure this all out. She'll find the info she needed to get a good psychiatrist and let him know. And she'd go to the gym he recommended! Omigosh Remarque was AMAZING.

The tacklehug? Totally unexpected. It was instinctively that he wrapped his arms around her, half because he wanted to balance himself, and half because it would have been totally awkward if Aurora ended up on the ground because he hadn't received her properly. "Yeah…all right, then. I can text you the place or we can schedule to meet up some time and I can show you around. Whatever works best for you."
Unused to how to properly respond in hugs—except in the case of Raven—he proceeded with the typical, always appropriate, awkward back pat in an attempt to soothe Aurora and quell her enthusiasm.

Kyuseisha no Hikari Looks like a good place to end it... after many moons and months. ;D Awkward? Psssshhht. THAT didn't matter. This was one of the best gifts ever. And if anyone said otherwise, well. They were wrong - end of story. "Yeah! Okay!" she agreed to his plan. Wait, there were choices in his plan, weren't there? "Uhm, I mean, let's meet up soon for this! Or you can text it to me. Or.. yeah, the first one." That was the better idea. He was the one with the money. "Okay, yeah, so.. text me.. and we'll.. yeah." Things would work out. Yup.

"Sounds like a plan to me," Remarque said, stepping away. He waved, though kept it short; he certainly wasn't one for awkward goodbyes. "I'll text you when I figure out my schedule for next week, we can meet over lunch or something, talk things out. You just take care of yourself until then, all right?" he said, already turning so he could head out. There was a lot to do before the night was over—starting with figuring out he was going to budget this.
He'd make it work. She was worth it.
Ryndilee Sounds good to me; labelled it finished!
