Seeing her go for another brownie, Deryk went ahead and wiped up his hands before slowly reaching for one to start chewing on as well. He saw her grab her phone to text someone, though he didn't see what was on the screen. In any case, he didn't inquire about it right now. While she did that, he just quietly ate away at his treat.

"Right.."

There was another sigh coming from the death trainee. Sure, on one hand they were all supposed to take orders and follow them, but... there was always a limit to everything. Some of the things asked to do, he just couldn't carry out with a clean conscience.

In a way, he supposed that made him weak. Useless to the team.

Was that really all he had to say? Ofelia frowned (in between chewing yet another brownie) and swallowed, her brow knitting itself downward. Here she was saying all kinds of crazy things and the best he could do was eat something and muster out a single word?

"Deryk? Lemme be honest here wit'cha." When was Ofelia never not honest? That was beside the point, and she continued on. "Truth be told Ah'm...worried 'bout ya. Ah came ta talk 'bout what happened wit' DETH, sure, but mostly ta see how yer doin'." The teen had plenty of concern for everyone except herself, this was true, but very seldom did she actually voice that concern aloud. Most people preferred her to leave them alone, which she did, but there always came a time when she couldn't ignore things.

Or leave well enough alone. It was hard to think which was which sometimes.

"How are ya, really? An' lyin' is a sin so dun really try it." This was a weird jump but the way he looked just didn't sit right with her. Sure the mood was good, sure everything else seemed okay, but his words and responses nagged at her inner concern.

Deryk looked up towards Ofelia with a furrowed brow as she voiced her concerns over him. He frowned lightly and shifted a bit uncomfortably, not really saying anything right away. The Death trainee didn't really want to talk too much about the matter. In a way, he was still afraid of saying too much, even if Ofelia did say some similar things.

"Just... wonder about things sometimes. Don't... really wanna go too much into detail," he murmured while he looked down at his half-eaten brownie. Sure, Caelius might be gone right now (or so he thought), but there were others he had to worry about that may try to eliminate him for these views. The less people who knew, the better his chances were, right? At least, that was what he was thinking.

Considering what had happened to Mike... he wasn't feeling much better about the punishment system at the island.

" . . . 'member what Ah said? Ah. . .am trustin' ya wit' knowin' how Ah feel." Ofelia didn't stand up, nor did she shy away from Deryk's side. She did stop her reaching for a brownie though since he'd stopped eating his and well she didn't want to seem like a huge pig. The brownies had been made for him after all, she was just eating what she wanted because she was a glutton. "Ah'm tellin' ya this 'cause Ah think ya feel the same - but Ah'd. . .probably end up attackin' one'a our own if they went after one'a them kids Ah knew."

There, she said it. Part of it was true, mostly the whole desire to protect those she was coming to like and treasure, but actually turning against her fellows of Deus was a bit different. It. . .probably depended on who it was, and who they were going after. If one of them went after Belladonna, or Mort. . . or Lizzy? Ofelia would step in no matter who she was up against, be it one of those from her pod level or even a division director. "Ah'm willin' ta turn mahself out here fer a chance at them, an' fer some reason Ah think yer sommin' similar. Ya went an' protected Ceres after all, seein' an' knowin' what she'd turned inta."

The death trainee sort of cringed. She might not have meant to scold him, but it almost felt that way to him. Deryk probably would have started to fiddle with his thumbs if it weren't for the fact that he was still holding his brownie. So instead he was just staring down at it.

"Alright.. Alright," he said, still not feeling very comfortable. Even with what Ofelia said, he still felt nervous about things.

"Don't feel right with some o'the things we do here. No. Sometimes wonder if I'm really doing the right thing. Not all of them are evil... not black and white. But.. orders. Always orders.."

So in the end it was about orders? "Ahhh yeah, Ah see. Ah think...Ah did that when Ah first got here, jus' followed orders. Ah...kinda wanted revenge fer mah eye which seems dumb since a pitchfork got me, not any'a 'em." She had been so cruel, so blood thirsty when she got into Deus. The chance to fight back, to be able to injure them with Rue in her hands, had been a toxic drug she could barely overlook. Now, with a promoted eye and a new jacket, she could glance back and feel somewhat embarrassed.

"The thing is though, how're we ta know who is good or bad wit'out really meetin' 'em, an' we can' go an' meet 'em wit'out orders right?" Ofelia was trying to spin this into a positive, doing everything she could to try and cheer Deryk up. The sun teen hadn't come in here to upset him, she wanted to cheer him up so badly, but why did it seem like she was adding salt to a horrible wound? "Wit'out Cael. . whatever his name is, we'da never met Lizzy an' them."

Of course if they hadn't gone they would not have run into that crazy guy either and have been forced to watch one of their own kill another. That was a bad taste and memory, so she sort of regretted saying that.

Deryk shook his head slowly at that. Ofelia almost had a point there.

"Actually met Lizzy before. In the Haunted House. Was just patrolling when I ran into her, yes. But. If the orders had been to eliminate all Halloween we encountered on our mission.. well. Doesn't give that much chance. Only worked out cuz we were there for surveillance. Not search 'n destroy. Would have been disobeying orders otherwise.."

Granted, he did end up directly disobeying orders when it came to Ceres. And he skirted around them when they were told to eliminate all the students a little earlier.

"Others probably see it as a weakness..."

"Why do ya care what the others think?" Ofelia frowned and took a brownie into her hand. She broke it into little pieces and slowly nibbled on them, stool looking at Deryk. "Ah mean, Ah know ya gotta depend on 'em in the field so there's that, but why think inta yer personal life?" She paused to chew, then swallow, and went on again. "Ya think Ah honestly care what most'a 'em here think'a me?" Ofelia didn't, but that was beside the point. She was pretty well aware most of Deus, if not all, thought she was a crazy person walking. "An' ya think Ah'mma let mah personal feelin's get in the way'a orders? If Ah'm so petty Ah do sommin' like that Ah'm not much'a a person."

Ugh, she was getting nowhere fast. Ofelia was such total s**t when it came to cheering people up, she was remembering this now. "What Ah'm tryin' ta say is, count on me. Ah'll always be here fer ya, at the very least, so ya got one person always on yer side."

"I care because those people could kill me or worse!" Deryk suddenly exclaimed, "I'm surprised Caelius has even kept me alive after all this time! There have been warnings against sympathizing with the enemy. Lots of times! Not just a matter of being bullied or looking down on. My life could be forfeit over this!"

Groaning, he slumped down. It wasn't just his peers, but his higher ups that he was worried about. They were the ones that had the power to control his fate to some degree. They could stuff him in a pod, take away his weapon, or just kill him outright. He saw what Caelius had done to Ryan. Hell, he's seen him smack around Mark too for that matter. He wouldn't be surprised if he would just outright decapitate someone for insubordination.

Ofelia's words saying that she was here for him didn't make him feel that much better.

It just meant that someone else was potentially in the same shithole as he was, which wasn't necessarily a good thing.

Ofelia was honestly taken aback by Deryk's sudden outburst, both glad and unnerved all at once. She'd wanted him to vent, wanted him to let it out, and it shocked her a little more than she thought it would. A took a moment for her to reel back in her thoughts and nerves, a second or two more to calm the pounding of her excited heart. "But Cael isn' here anymore. We saw what happened ta him, an' even if he manages ta survive that he won' be the same comin' back." She said, probably not really believing her own words. It was all she could offer, words, because neither of them had any knowledge or truth to back it up. Deus was made on facts, facts which neither of them possessed, so her words rang hollow. "That man's more'a monster than anythin' Ah've seen so far, but yanno - he dun scare me. Ah'm livin' mah life as Ah please, doin' what comes ta me in orders or by mah own conscious."

The teen stood up, mostly just to stretch but to give herself a little room just in case Deryk decided to lash out (maybe) with his next possibly outburst. "Deryk, dun let 'em live yer life fer ya. Follow yer gut an' follow orders - there's always a way ta do both if ya dun flaunt yer insubordination in front'a peoples faces."

"He might be gone.. but there's others who'd probably do the same.." Deryk muttered quietly. Dr. H? That man creeped him out. There was no telling what sorts of things he would do. Allan, at least, he didn't have to worry about.

"Someone had to have killed the Council anyway... yes.." he added.

Shaking his head, he just laid back onto his bed to stare at the ceiling a bit.

"Guess so..." he replied in regards to being able to follow both his heart and his orders. It didn't really seem all that easy, though. Especially when they were conflicting things.

"Hmm....Ah'll...jus' have ta make sure ta protect ya then from them." Ofelia wasn't really afraid of Dr. H, she did think he was creepy much like the most of everyone else, but there was no real fear though. Even though she had seen what happened to Mike and everyone else there was no worries about having her weapon taken - it would be a relief. They could send her on a mission without a weapon though and she'd be slaughtered like a lamb but that was the only worry there. She didn't have someone to lay all over her like Jordan and Harrison did for Rep, or the way . . .well, no, that's about it. "A'course it's best if ya protect yerself, but if yer always worried, always feelin', ya can come ta me." She said, placing a hand on her chest.

Her next words were sort of mumbled, though she grew steadier as she went on. "No one on this island believes me no matter what Ah say, they all think Ah'm crazy, so yer words are probably safest wit' me." Of course she didn't think that would be enough at all to convince him, people just didn't seem to want to depend on her for anything (even meals, which made her sadder), and the teen stepped over so she was leaning over Deryk's torso. "Only if ya ever wanna though. Ah'm really s**t at everythin' Ah try ta do, like cheer people up, so take yer pick'a mah uses." She grinned.

"An' as fer the coucil. . .didja know any'a 'em? Ah didn' really, an' didn' we all see one'a 'em commit suicide earlier in the year? Seems like sommin' been goin' on way longer than we thought." Why she could remember something like that, so far back, made her wonder. "Ah think...weren' we all used by Cael as alibis at that time?"

The offer of protection didn't make him feel that much better. Deryk looked over towards Ofelia as she leaned over, letting out a sigh. Did he really need to be protected? He just sort of fell silent, thinking it over, not really sure what to say right now. Apart from the above, there was the fact that she was a Sun hunter. Defense wasn't really a part of her supposed repertoire.

For now, he decided to not think more on the matter, shifting his attention to the other topic regarding the council.

"Yeah.. Remember that. Still. Don't think that was suicide. Rest of the council dying definitely wasn't. Someone here had to do it. No other way..." he muttered.

"An' Ah take it by yer vague and unenthusiastic response yer not all that curious as ta who really had their hands in it?" Ofelia was curious, it would be one of the biggest lies she'd ever told to say she wasn't, and it took a lot of self-control for her to keep her face from showing that eagerness as she spoke. "Ah'm not sure Ah really wanna know, could probably be sommin' that dun end well fer me ta have knowledge of, but. . . Ah sometimes wonder if knowin' will end up savin' mah life, or the life'a those 'round me." But how that information would she wasn't sure, or how she'd even get a hold of it. She wasn't observant, people never talked to her, and asking around about it was the best way to get herself next on the list. The only reason she could discuss it now was because of Deryk and even then she was certain she was probably making him into a possible enemy. That really, really sucked.

There was another thing that sucked that she happened to notice while thinking, and the teen actually chuckled over it. "Yanno, Ah dun think mahself a serious person but fer some reason Ah always find mahself bein' serious 'round ya. Why is that?"

"How could we find out though? So many hunters on the island.. no cameras caught I think. No," Deryk groaned. It would be good to know but at the same time, he wasn't sure if he should really try digging into it. That sort of thing could very well get him killed if the murderer was that sort of person.

Frowning, he looked back towards Ofelia, fidgeting a bit before sitting up once again.

"Dunno. Probably cuz I'm being a downer. Maybe..."
