"UH......" Melvin couldn't move around the monster now blocking his path back to where Jerry and the other monster now were, and was now being slowly forced away from the pair as he moved back through the vegetation. "Jerry.....I'm trying!" He called back, hoping he could hear him. He tried to move to the side, but he had a gun, not a machete. The vegetation wasn't easy to move through to get back.

"JUST KEEP IT OCCUPIED, I'M COMING!" He roared, and the fear gathered in Roar's mouth, a blast of sound and light ripping through the creature leaving nothing but dissolving mist.

"A-Alright!" He called back, looking up at the twin who glanced back slowly to see what the noise was before Melvin whistled and made it turn to look back at him. "Heeeyyyy. Your brother just died. How about you just hang with me and maybe I won't get killed today and Jerry will blow your head off before I turn into your toothpick. Sound good." He said to the monster, moving back and then hitting a mass of thick vines that covered various trees to make a thick netting. "s**t!"
He started to move to move sideways, feeling through the plants for a way through.

"HEY, UGLY." Roar came swinging, sharp spines slamming into the creature's leg as it loomed in through the foliage, eager for a tasty Melvin snack. It kicked back and Jerry went stumbling. "MEL! RUN!" And defend oh dear god keep defending.

Melvin didn't need telling twice and slipped back as the monster shook off the spiney other that was Jerry. On the other side, Melvin breathed deeply next to Jerry, glad to not be in the corner. "You killed it." He stated, looking and seeing the other monster gone. God damn, he was glad to have a Sun around.
Then he paused. My name isn't Mel. He was about to correct, but hell! This guy just tackled a monster foot for him.
He'd let it slide this one time.

"Get some distance and make some noise!" Jerry had just enough time to bark the order before the foot came around, ripping free of Roar's quills to kick him sharply and send the scrawny man tumbling.

"Oh crap! Are you okay?!" He didn't have much time to check when the monster turned to him. Right. Distraction, or else it would just go down on Jerry and chomp his head off.
He ran back, but now making sure not to go TOO far, and waved and whistled as if he was trying to get a dog's attention. "Hey! Stop kicking! Over here!" He kept glancing at Jerry to make sure he'd get up.

Jerry managed to scramble up to his feet, breathing heavily as he planted Roar in the dirt, firing him like a mortar. The explosion hit the creature at an odd angle, confusion it as to which direction it aught to be vengeancing in. "KEEP IT UP! WE CAN DO THIS!"

"WELL AT LEAST SOMEONE IS CONFIDENT!" He called back, still waving to keep the monster looking at him. It was a good thing he was tall and lank, which meant he had long enough arms to get it's attention. He pulled off his scarf as well, considering it was already damn hot out here, and waved it to see if it reacted like a bull and would see the red and come to him. It seemed to work well enough, though the creature was still debating which to go after.
It then turned back to Melvin and swung out, causing him to move back.

"AWOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" This felt right. This was where he worked, where he was meant to be. It was beautiful. Set up, and fire- the groans of the trees in the wind, the echos of Roar's blasts, the groans of the creature as it ripped through, destroying the darkness with light and sound...

Was there Melvin was now meant to be? In the front lines dodging monsters and being used as distraction bait? When he said he wanted to find out about shadows, to defeat these monsters, he wanted to figure out ways to find their weaknesses and have that science applied to others who would work in the field. He wasn't a soldier, a warrior, or some crazed fanatic who liked setting things on fire!
He just wanted these things dead forever, to find out new places and their own powers, but this? THIS WAS CRAZY!!
Jerry was howling again as another blast nearly deafened Melvin as it hit the monster. It was becoming harder to distract it, and picking up a rock, he thew it at the creature. "I don't think it's going to be looking at me for long, Jerry!" He called back.

"AWOOOOOO!" Jerry's voice was getting raw, but he held his ground. The creature ignored Melvin, now rushing toward the man that had sent it such a sting. The blast ripped forth through a shadowy, bulking arm, but the other was close, grabbing Jerry tightly to heft him up into the air with a tight squeeze.
"Aaaah...! M-Mel! A l-little... irk... help!"

"Oh s**t!" He called, racing over as the monster lifted Jerry up to consider just how to go about chewing on this new, exotic delicacy that appeared on it's island. Taking a page out of Jerry's book, Melvin started hitting the creature's leg. "HEY! STOP!"

The monster squeezed. Jerry couldn't breath, couldn't move... except flex his fingers. Roar had been pinned to his side... still in his grip.
He flexed his trigger finger and in an eruption of light and ripping shadow, he tumbled to the ground and could breath again.

There was no distracting this thing now. It was pissed at Jerry, and all Melvin could do was in front of the fallen Hunter and wave at it. Aggravated, the creature just swept it's hands and brushed Melvin away, turning just enough to watch the trainee fall back.
