He dashed through the grass, heart beating madly. It felt as if he was running really quickly, but it was hard to tell in the high grass.

He must be at least half way there now, right? The terrain got a bit tricky and he had to slow down, going around a thick shrubbery instead of through it. That would have been a good way to get badly scratched and then snacked on.

After the shrubbery nothing stood in his way, and he dashed on through the grass. No hawk could catch him now because he was flying!

Oxlip was clearly getting too cocky, because he managed to run straight through a stand of old dry grass. He slowed down, but the damage was done. The noise of brittle grass breaking sounded unnaturally loud to his ears. But there was nothing to do about it, he had to continue running.

Ruffling his feathers as the hawk lifted his head and blinked, he snapped his powerful beak and shook out his wings; he thought he'd heard... something...

Hraka! He stumbled on a rotten branch and made even more noise. It might be his imagination, but he thought he heard the call of a bird.

Annchen Hraka! He stumbled on a rotten branch and made even more noise. It might be his imagination, but he thought he heard the call of a bird. 8/10 Score: 51 Oh Frith and Inle`!
Althea cursed silently as she saw the massive bird lift off from his branch. She didn't sit still to wait and see if he'd make a successful grab.
Bounding forward and charging through the grass with no regard whatsoever to creating noise, the marli put on as much speed as her mass would allow.
Then she saw who the hawk was targeting and cursed the Thousand and anything foul her mind could conjure. Would she reach Oxlip in time?
Roaring, she called to her son, whom was much, much closer to the buck than she.
"CROW! THE HAWK! NILDEL, NIDEL, EVERYONE DOWN!"
The black buck had already seen and was now trying to work up the courage to do what he was being asked. After seeing his sister in a snare... the cat his mother had thrown off his other sister. The buck that died to save him. Could he? Could...[[First roll is Althea, Oxlip is 8 rolls away. Althea must score at least a 6 to help, and an 8 to throw her weight at the hawk and ground him entirely. Second roll is Crow. Oxlip is 2 paces away, so Crow must score at least a 2 to find the courage to help, and at 6 he'll throw his weight at the hawk, which will knock him off course at least temporarily. ]]

Don't go tharn, don't go tharn... Oxlip saw the shadow, heard the shouts and then the even more frightening sound of wings. You only heard them when they were close. There would be pain soon.

Of all the fur-brained, hraisk-faced, steaming pile of hraka ideas-
She didn't finish the thought before leaping towards the bird, catching him in the side as his claws reached out to grasp at Oxlip.
But they never reached the buck.
Her weight brought the winged predator crashing to the earth where he screeched in his horror and anger at the doe, snapping at her as she skittered away from him. Baring her teeth at the bird, she stood between it and Oxlip, whom Crow was circling in something of a panic.
"Bit more than you bargained for, eh? You're nothing more than an overgrown, feathery fly! Care to swoop at me, you miserable-"
She grunted and stepped from side to side, keeping the bird's focus solely on her.
"CROW! Move your tail and get him out of here! Towards the warren, the both of you!"
Crow's eyes were so wide his eyes showed as he nudged at Oxlip and quivered as he rushed to obey his marli.OXLIP IS SAFE! He is out of the running today, but may try to participate again tomorrow. ----------------------------------------------------------- The stand off only lasted as long as it took for Althea to be sure that the males were safely away before she turned her back on the hawk and kicked up grass and dirt at it, causing the thing to squawk in indignation and struggle to get off the ground. Althea took the opportunity to lie low and find a place to hide while the bird circled overhead. Finding nothing, the hawk glided back to his tree to preen and smooth his ego. Bested by a rabbit, of all things. An hour crept by, then another. Finally Althea stood up and looked around, signaling the all clear. EVERYONE ELSE MAY CONTINUE RACING, ASSUME THE HAWK IS (DUMB) ASLEEP AGAIN.

Whoops! didn't see this before I posted. If you like I could edit, Ann. Say the hawk sunk his talons into Oxlip's back and -then- Althea hits the hawk and knocks him off. Up to you <3

Ok. Ok. A hawk. He could do this.
Patchouli felt he might go tharn thinking about it. The rabbit trembled slightly, eyeing the sleeping bird in the distance. One rabbit had already almost been picked off and he... He wasn't sure he could make it. He could go fast, but could he go fast and silent? The pretty, young buck braced himself, before finally launching into the course.
