“Yeah well Ami no offense but not everyone can pull off ice princess who actually cares but tries not to show it.” Huff puff, Marcus was full of kind words today. “And what day off? Portals down, we’re all on high duty for those of us not trainee ranked. They only sent me home because I was quote, ‘depressing’. ‘S not my fault that the extended care unit is depressing.” It actually wasn’t. Usually. Usually it was just grumpy. “The whole unit needs a freaking make over.” He said with a undignified snort. “Dunno about switching weapons. Problem then would be that it implies Dis would have to give me up. Fat chance on that one. And yeah.” Arm waved in the air, the moon hunter motioned to the kitchen. “My lab is a kitchen thank you. Plus I can’t deal with your guy’s inner division politics. Just- pissing matches. The worst pissing matches we have in moon is when we decide to try to build better than what’s their face. End result is you get two really good walls and one guy just buys the other lunch.” Head rolling to look at Ami, the moon considered what he was saying. “Labs are supposed to be finished by now. We had them scheduled for final detail work last week, unless someone blew something up again in which case it gives us an excuse to not do more repairs for the suns.” Daily repairs. “Portals are cross class and actually require more of your division then mine. Security… varies. Cass was doing her work for the mists, but if they cross check with us moons I guess it’d be worth looking into.” He ignored the comment about Dis. Avoidance at it’s best. “It’s okay. I’m not the best person to be around right now so, the fact you’ve put up with this much? Eh.”

Ami had to internally laugh at Marcus making fun of their "pissing matches." When you had people waiting on you to make technology and remedies to provide emergency care for hunters, there was a bit more at stake than a free lunch. Ami didn't comment though. She just let Marcus whine.
She did at least snort at his last sentiment. "Oh yes, because you're just the bucket of problems. You." She let out a long heavy sigh and said, "A new ... acquaintance told me things happen for a reason. What a load of s**t." It was more to herself than to Marcus.
"Tolstoy," Ami said abrutly. "'The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." She looked at him with a wayward smile and said, "You currently have neither, but you can at least create the first." She sighed and leaned more into the couch. A heavy silence hung in the air, as Ami was lost for words. "Marcus, tell me something. Who do you consider your close friends?"

He felt like a bucket of problems. Or at least like a bucket of uselessness. “Things happen for a reason. It’s called bad choices and mistakes. Or, on rare occasion, luck. Less a load of s**t, more just lacking.” He shrugged into the couch. “But making friends Ami? With living persons and not books?” He smirked a her, a small part of him teasing, brought out of his self pity party.
“And I’m familiar. Sadly my creative juices are rather lacking. They also forgot the third most powerful warrior. Fear.” He motioned to the empty house. “I didn’t build this place for one person. I made it for two.” Hand fell, the moon was back into his pity party as silence reigned. “I dunno.” He looked at her. “It’s a loaded question coming from you. So, let me rephrase it for you, do I consider myself your friend? Yes. Close? That’s objective. I like to think I am, but the reality is that it’s up to you. Outside of you? Much the same. I consider people friends, if they consider me the same is up to them. Closeness is objective to who’s asking and how the other party feels. And I can’t read minds.”

"No! I am not friends with that ... that jerk!" Ami stuttered, denying her acquaintance with Lex altogether. No way. She didn't consider herself friends with most people, but ESPECIALLY not Lex. No. Just no. FFFFFFno.
She crossed her arms in grumpy denial as Marcus continued to mope. Poor thing. Ami knew what if felt like to lose a fiance.
Marcus was turning the question back around on her, which was exactly what she didn't want. "I didn't mean to make it loaded, I just meant ... in general ..." She frowned and looked away, somewhat embarrassed. Wasn't Marcus technically admitting that they were friends as long as she agreed?
Ami thought for a moment. She confided in Marcus, trusted in, depended on his leadership skills. It was unquestionable that she admired him, aspired to him. He wasn't bad in the appearance department either. Did that make them friends though? She'd always felt like she was just Marcus' problem, his underling. At what point had friendship come into the matter?
"I'm ... not sure," she admitted. She would tell Marcus the truth. Ami didn't want to feed him lies about how they were the best of friends when she didn't truly feel that way. "We share ... synapomorphic traits, it's true. I ... trust you a great deal. You've weaseled confessions out of me." She shot him a look as if to say "yes, I still remember that." "But ... I don't know. I've never thought of us as friends once. You're just ... Marcus? It never came with a title." A brooding look crossed her face. "I'm not opposed, I'm just ... I don't know."

Marcus smirked. “So, you are friends with them… or getting there. That’s good. I worry with your quiet nature.” It was said with a light jest. Ami was a hard nut to crack, but, he suspected she just didn’t like to talk about herself normally. Too bad, he put her on the spot half the time. “And don’t make that face with me. I’m the one who gets to mope today. Not you. Only on party pooper in my house at a time. And my house? I get to mope all I damn well please.” More light teasing in his tone.
As Ami expounded on the nature of their relationship, Marcus sank further into the cushions. He was practically fusing with them. “That’s kind of how friends work Ami. You get them and you don’t realize it until you ask. You don’t assume but at some point, you figure it out, and you just know. I don’t assume I’m close with you because you’re not the type of person who I can just assume things with. I push yeah, but I’m not about to assume I’m a close friend when I know you genuinely don’t open up without wanting to. Where as with Dakota? I trusted him with helping me pick out a wedding ring.”
He smiled a bit. “I trust you, but not in the same way. I trust you as Ami, defensive, tactical, sleep deprived and all.” He rolled his head at her. “You ARE sleeping right?” Leave it to him to bring it up.

Ami didn't comment on being friends with Lex, merely scowled and continued to sulk. He insulted Mr. Darcy. He would never be forgiven.
She put her hand on her chin, deep in thought. She didn't want to be Dakota, regardless of situation. She wanted to take a step though. At least admit that she wanted to work towards it. Set a goal for herself.
Then Marcus went and ruined everything. "I'm sleeping whether I want to or not." A heavy sigh included there was much more to this story. "You can at least thank Lex for adding another goon to your little squad." She rolled her eyes.

He snorted. "Then I'll need to get him a gold star. Any one who can help send you back to bed well." He gave her a look. "You are too much a workaholic. It's okay to rest Ami. No one is going to remove you. Didn't we go over this?"
Marcus was sure they had.
"You came out here Ami, because of me. I guess if I had to say it? We're friends, and I'm glad for it. I fuss over you because I worry, and you fuss because I fuss. All in all I'd say... You're opening up to me, and it's nice to see you trusting me with as much as you do."
His smile was relaxed. "Feeling a bit better at any rate."

Ami rubbed the back of her neck, feeling awkward now. Marcus really saw right through her, didn't he? Sure they'd talked about her safety, but Ami fretted. She was never really sure that she was secure, not after the captivity with Horsemen.
So it was a relief to hear Marcus admit that they were friends. Not because ~friendship~ gave her touchy feels, but more because she didn't have to put a label and a box with it. Marcus did it for her, so she could settle on it.
"I ... think so too, yes. I'm still a bit ... ah ... I will approach it with trepidation, because that is how I am, but I'd like to think I can try? Or ... that is ..." She put her thumb in her mouth, trying to think of how to word it. Ami was a writer- it needed to sound the way she wanted it to. "You have been very kind to me, and I would like to reciprocate?"
She sighed. An absolute trainwreck with her own feelings, that was Ami Raine. "So ... thank you." She smiled, feeling somewhat accomplished. A real smile, not faked. "And I'm glad you're feeling better."
"Ah ... could you do me a favor?" she asked, sitting up somewhat. Now that Marcus was safe ... yes, yes she could trust him with that. At least, if not Marcus, then who?

He listened to and watched her struggle to find the right words. Ami was trying, that much was apparent, and he could appreciate the effort she was making. Feelings were hard enough to get her to share, and this much? It was like a feelings from Ami Christmas.
"You don't need to thank me for friendship Ami. It's not a gift, so sadly, you can't go and try to exchange it. It's just... A thing. But, you're welcome. And..." Blue eye peered at her shifting stance, worry filling his expression. "What you need?" So long as it wasn't a test subject he was good.

"Ah ... I might have ... slapped Lex," she said, voice slowly diminishing into quietness. She looked down, somewhat ashamed of her actions, yet also someone proud. "I don't want you to apologize for me, or anything like that, but could you check on him? Just make sure he's taking care of it ..."
She quickly averted her eyes and changed the subject. Suddenly she didn't want to talk about Lex. "Oh- I suppose I have lied. I have two tasks I need carried out." She looked up at Marcus and said, "Find a way to visit Cass. I can't stand you moping, its disgusting." She said it in the nicest way she knew how.

She... Slapped... Marcus snorted as she acted like that was somehow a bad thing. While Marcus didn't know much about him, Lex struck Marcus as a slightly less crude Dakota. "Well I'm sure he deserved it. You're not one to go around slapping men at random after all. But sure. I'll go check up on him. Probably just has a bruised ego like most men."
The moon hunter smiled a bit at Ami's fretting. "Hmmm I'll try to see her in event. She's probably just like me. Moping." He frowned. "I hope not too much." Marcus's internal fret over Cass sense was kicking up again.
He missed her more than he should.

Ami rolled her eyes, but secretly she thought it very endearing all the fretting Marcus was doing. She wasn't about to stick around for the Marcus mope party though. Touchy feeling time was over.
She stood up, patting Marcus on the arm and smiling lightly. "I'm sure she is," she said, brushing off her skirt. Jokingly, she added, "And if she doesn't take you back, I'll be first in line."
Though that would probably bring another wave of Cass feelings, Ami turned to head out the door. "I expect to see you back to work by tomorrow." Just a little warning in case he thought he could spend his time lazing around. With that, she departed.
