The more Eva described him, the wider Jake's grin grew.
That sounded just like how a Deus Hunter should act, not letting stuff like sympathy and FEELINGS affect them. If anything, his actions would only help hunters hone their survival skills further. If they couldn't take what he dished out, they didn't deserve to be a hunter.
"Shame I didn't meet him sooner."
He only frowned when she commented on his first mission.
"We failed this first mission. I don't see anything to be happy about."
He had completely forgotten about the apple in his hand until Eva mentioned lunch, and he looked to see he was still holding it.
"No. I'm not hungry. I only came here because Chester wouldn't stop pestering me."

Eva seemed curious by his response, but she simply shook her head. "You sound disappointed now, but trust me. I'm pretty sure that there wasn't a single trainee here that liked him. Even if you were completely obedient and on task, that still wouldn't stop him from being the biggest butt in the world."
But pshaw, enough about Caelius. The girl smiled wryly at the note about Jake's first mission being a failure, giving a little half-nod. "Well...yeah. A lot of things happened, and...losing Bix and Ceres had been..." The smile faded, but after she shook her head and continued, her lips were curved very slightly again, "But I mean to say, it was...a battle, and I have to admit that I feel a lot more comfortable with battling than my first mission."
She clucked her tongue in disapproval when he told her that he wasn't hungry--had he been training? Eating after training was important!--but at least she wouldn't feel guilty about telling him this story. Not that he seemed like the type to feel the urge to puke at a gross story, but...just in case.
"We got sent to the desert for my first mission. Everything seemed okay, and no one bothered to tell us what were we doing. It wasn't until we started walking, got close, and smelled the task that we figured it out." There was a pause, and then she grimaced.
"If you wanted to trade places with me and go pick up dead, rubbery bodies that were falling apart with your bare hands...then I would welcome you to do so."

Like him? Probably not. Hell, he didn't LIKE anyone. It'd be a miracle if he did. But respect? Hell yes. ALL THE RESPECT. Something he doubt anyone else would understand because they were too busy getting attached to feelings and crap.
When she started describing her first mission though, uh, he was kind of glad he didn't eat. It wasn't like he was going to hurl or anything, but he might of tasted some bile in his mouth.
"That's, uh... ok, no."
He would take losing a fight over that ANY day. ... kinda.

She couldn't help but chuckle at his reaction. "Yeah, it was bad. I was in nursing school before I came here, so I don't consider myself to be that squeamish when it comes to the human body, but that experience was..." She trailed off with a shudder, but seemed to have recovered when she reached out to give the boy an affectionate pat on the head.
"But what I'm saying is that you should brace yourself for missions like that in the future, Jake. The battles are bad, but fighting isn't the only thing that we do here."
And then she reached behind her, picked up a slice of toast she hadn't managed to finish, and pressed the edge of the bread against his lips. "Anyways, if you're anything like me, you probably woke up in the morning, went to train, dropped by the cafeteria briefly, and are about to go train some more. Chester is right--you need some food."[A.V.] ...I just realized how blue my last post was I'M SORRY, EVA NEEDS TO SHUT UP LMAOOO

...Nursing school? He eyed her with a raised eyebrow. How OLD was she?
When Eva started patting his head, his hand shot up, grabbing her wrist. "STOP that."
He only rolled his eyes at her advice. He knew THAT much. Though... it'd be a lot easier if they just involved fighting. It was a lot straight-forward to him. Just how in the world did he end up in Death division?
Before he could ponder it farther, he felt something pressed against his lips. What. He only narowed his eyes at Eva as he took the piece of toast from her.
"Seriously, what's with you and Chester? I can take care of myself JUST FINE. Stop treating me like some kid."Kaiyumi No worries! I like reading it. o u o I'm sorry Jake... barely talks OTL

Jake, Eva decided, was adorable. This was not something that she would voice aloud, but her opinion was already quite clear from her actions. Smiling, she obediently withdrew her hand when he demanded that she stop. The girl was not going to deny that she was a rather touchy feely person, but if he was honestly irritated by it, she would stop for now.
Leaning back in her seat, she crossed her arms over her chest and laughed. "Kitten, if you could take care of yourself just fine, then Chester and I wouldn't need to dote on you like this." Lifting a hand, she pointed to the piece of toast that he now held, "Don't you think it's important to eat properly when you're going to spend the day training? You'll be weaker and have less energy if you don't get a balanced meal, you know."
And then she promptly told Chara to shush as her weapon muttered "hypocrite" in her mind.[A.V.] LOL NO Jake is awesome, okay lkadfjasf <333

He breathed a sigh of relief when she pulled her hand back. Girls. What were with girls and touching? It was something he never understood, nor wished to. They could just keep their hands to themselves for all he cared.
"I don't NEED you to dote on me."
"BOTH of you, just leave me alone."
He grumbled and placed the piece of toast back on her plate. It may of touched his lips, but it was from HER plate. Technically, they were now even.
"I don't see how TOAST is supposed to help."
Thanks for the input, captain obvious.
He took a bite out of his apple, as if to show them both he knew how to eat. Dammit people, stop treating him like a kid.Kaiyumi Ahaha, Eva, best big sis. xD

Despite the fact that she could not actually hear him speak, Eva decided that she quite liked Chester. Judging by the way Jake was speaking to both of them when he demanded that they stop doting on him, it seemed as if she had Chester had some things in common.
Things that included nagging Jake to death, apparently.
She couldn't help it. When the boy tossed the toast back onto her plate and took a bite of an apple instead, she clucked her tongue and wagged her finger at him. "Apples are good for you, and they contain some necessary vitamins and minerals...but what about your daily intake of carbs, Jake? You can't just skip those." She paused, and then slid a carton of milk over to his side of the table.
"Calcium too."[A.V.] The most nagging big sis OuO

First she was shoving food in his mouth, and now she was lecturing him? This was EXACTLY why he didn't want to come to the cafeteria. ... why did he even start talking to her in the first place? ... what did he just get himself into?
"Will you stop trying to FEED me? I'm technically an adult now, ok? You don't have to tell me what to do. I know how to take care of myself."
Hey. No one asked you. Butt out.
He pushed the milk carton back. "Since you seem to care about nutrients so much, YOU should have it." Did he know that she was already stuffed? No, though it probably wouldn't of changed anything.

"Ah, technically an adult," She echoed, quirking a brow as a smile spread across her lips, "So that...just makes you eighteen, right? Which means that I'm two--three, in a few days--years older, which also means that you should respect your seniors, kitten."
And then she leaned over to give him an affectionate hair ruffle, ignoring any protests. Chara, for one, simply seemed amused and resigned at her partner's actions. Hardly know him, and you've already adopted him like a little brother.
Or a cute, bitey kitten.
One that didn't like milk though, apparently. Lifting her brows, the black-haired girl pushed it back at him, rather insistently. "I've had a full meal with milk, fruit, eggs, toast, and other things. You...are having an apple."

Dammit. Him and his big mouth. "Hey, I never said I'm-" He paused. "...You're 21?" ... Way to keep his age secret.
"As if, old lady." he sniffed.
Bite me.
And then she decided to ruffle his hair (again). "STOP that. I'm not a freaking kid, dammit!" He shoved her hand away. "And stop calling me kitten. It sounds stupid."
If Eva wasn't careful, he actually might bite.
He only stared at the carton again as she pushed it towards him. "Either you're way too damn persistent, or that stupid kitten thing is going to your head." Ignoring it, he took another bite out of the apple. "And there's nothing wrong with eating just an apple." he mumbled.

Judging by the fact that Eva laughed at being called an old woman, it was clear that she wasn't at all insulted by the boy's words. Instead, she teasingly reaching out to rap him softly over the head with her knuckles. "Don't make me hit you with my cane, you young hooligan." There was a pause, and then she furrowed her brows and corrected herself, "Hooligan kitten."
Aw yeah. Clearly Jake had been bestowed the most manly of nicknames ever.
"And you may think it's stupid, but I think it's cute. Puppy and Gumdrop haven't complained about their nicknames." Well, Otto most definitely did...but Dakota had never complained, probably because they had both been drunk off of Joy at that time.
Leaning her elbow on the table, she propped her head up on her hand and smiled. "You're right--I'm really, really persistent. I was training to be a nurse before I came here, and trust me, I met a lot of kids who were as stubborn as you are."[A.V.] :T It's okay, Jake. You have a right to be grumpy @ nickname

He only grinned when she rapped his forehead and acknowledged herself as an old woman, but then she called him a hooligan kitten. ...what. There was a sigh when he realized he was probably stuck with this nickname forever.
"Obviously they have no dignity." he grumbled. Between being called a domestic animal or a confection, neither really seemed appealing. Why did he get stuck with all the crazy ones? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
... Great. He was never going to get rid of her now. "Don't you have OTHER people to bother?" He was so done. SO done.

She chuckled, crossing her arms over her chest and shaking her head. "Okay, so puppy protested...but I think he eventually got used to it." After all, it had been a year since Reine first came up with that nickname and they started calling him by it. It was a whole year for him to adjust.
...Maybe a year was what it would take for Jake to adjust to his new nickname too.
Her lips spread into a big grin at his question and, as if just to be obnoxious, she suddenly got up moved behind him, draping her arms over each of his shoulders while propping his chin up on the top of his head.
"Nope."
You made a mistake when you decided to talk to her that morning, Jake.[A.V.] :V And Eva is forever touchy-feely

When she said "eventually got used to it", he only gave her a squint that seemed to say What did you do to him you devil woman? Maybe he'd end up killing himself before he ever succumbed to such a disgrace.
The moment she got up, he had a fleeting hope she was finally leaving. YES. ... until he realized she only ended up going behind him. What-
He stiffened when her arms draped over his shoulder and she rested her chin on his head.
Clenching his fist, he took several deep breaths and closed his eyes. It took all his willpower to stop from trying to chuck Eva over his shoulder and across the cafeteria. WHY DID PEOPLE KEEP TOUCHING HIM? It was like someone stuck an invisible "touch me" sign that everyone except him could see. ... or maybe just girls. He established all Deus girls were extremely touchy.
Don't test him, Chester, don't test him.
"Get off. Right. now."Kaiyumi Whelp. I don't know what to do with him anymore. :T
