Okay, so maybe it wasn't a massive burst of speed. In fact, she slowed a little, but she didn't do terrible. She had fun and, in her mind, that was what mattered. The doe sprang around the finish line in a display of celebration.

Patchouli was back and this time, he was sure he was prepared. He stretched, he ran to warm up, and he didn't want to embarrass himself... Again. Long way or short way? Well, the short way had more obstacles. If he were fast enough, maybe he could overcome the distance with momentum. The buck chose the long path and sped off.

He had a strong start, but he tried not to let that get to his head. He was focused on running the course.

Unfortunately, that enthusiastic start waned somewhat. Still, the tawny buck wasn't going to stop. Unlike Underwing, he approached this as more work than fun. Maybe he should have tried to find fun in it.

He slowed slightly as he skirted about an upturned branch that had settled on his path, not that it was any major obstacle at all.

Oxlip managed to pick up some speed, despite the fact that the terrain was getting harder to run in. He dodged under branches and weaved around stones.
