"Just wondering. I've been learning about who everyone was before they came here. You don't have to answer." Melvin never pushed too hard, especially with a man with a destructive bazooka who might already been tipsy.
The way Jerry got angry on a dime made him think that some Suns just were touchy. It reminded him of Rep, and so he decided to try treating him like he treated the short-tempered red-head. A jock who liked flattery.
"I have to say, when I was out on the last mission, you were pretty impressive. I can barely hit anything and you seem to hit most of the time." He was testing a theory, and he waited for the conclusion.

"Practice," Was all Jerry said, pursing his lips as he surveyed the damage- or lack there of- of his last shot. "Like practicing piano. Repetition."
He shook his head and lowered his weapon, "Doesn't matter who we were before here. Those people are dead." He glanced up at the sky. He hadn't had anything to eat in hours. Probably should. Chemistry. Gotta' get it right. "And if they aren't gone yet, they will be soon. Nothing good stays here."

Melvin was depressed at this last statement, going silent as he lowered his weapon. Dead. His mind went to his sister Sophie that he saw during that strange time in the fog. He missed her deeply, and he hated to think that he was 2 years dead in her world. She wasn't alive then, but seeing her after a month of not talking to anyone from his family stung deep.
He was dead, and he'd never see them again. Not his sister, younger brother, mother or father. Not his uncles or aunts and many cousins. No holidays. No phone calls. No visits. Not even a card.
"Yeah....dead." It wasn't sinking as much when he first came from the pod, but now, nearly 2 months later, it was hitting.

"Did you want to spar?" Jerry suddenly glanced over at the man, light glinting off his glasses to obscure his eyes. "I was about to get lunch."

Melvin looked up from his rather gloomy thoughts to Jerry. "..eh?" He could see the still smoldering craters from the corner of his eyes and wondered if burning people could still their own skin on fire.
You have a shield. I'm here. Come on. We haven't sparred yet and you feel rusty. Probably just doing paperwork all day and getting skinny.
He took a breath.
"...Sure." He would regret this. He knew he would. Slowly, he turned to take off his coat, setting it down on a nearby bench. Then he took off his sweater to show a nicely ironed polo shirt. It was hot here and training was near impossible with a sweater on despite how usually cold he was in any weather.
Done, he picked a spot nice distance between him and Jerry. They were both range so it was just shooting and aiming.

"Give me your best shot." Jerry straightened, rolling his wounded shoulder before gingerly hefting Roar up into position. "I promise no charged attacks."

"Thanks." It was the charge attacks that worried him the most, but he wasn't all together relieved. There was still those smoldering dummies nearby.
Swallowing hard, he aimed, trying to line up his sights with the slender build of the Sun hunter, before he squeezed the trigger. A glowing, acidic-green egg shot out.

The little egg bounced off of his arm, and Jerr let out a fresh cackle of laughter, "I think you can do better than that!" Roar was lowered, and the space between them suddenly seemed a lot closer as the blast ripped forth.
It had been a while since Jerry had had a proper spar. This felt good.

While Jerry felt better about getting back into sparring, Melvin was considering maybe taking a break from it. The hit had sent him stepping back several paces due to force alone, and he clenched his teeth as he let a whisper of a groan pass. Luckily he was far enough to not be heard, but DAMN! That wasn't even a charge and it hit him dead center with all the force of a rhino.
Just hit him in the face! If he's blind, he can't hit you! Suck it up! This is why I keep telling you eat more and get some meat on you. You're too easy to tip over.
Oh man. his chest and stomach hurt from that, but as Jerry called out, Melvin slowly uncurled and rose his gun up to target him. His hands were a bit shaky as he narrowed his eyes, breathing hard, before firing and not even hitting him.

Why was he howling? Maybe he was a bit more drunk then he let on. Oh s**t, he was messing with a drunk guy with a cannon for a weapon.
Melvin! Just listen! Hit him in the head or something. If he's off his nut, then fighting a drunk guy should be easy! He looks as skinny as you. Break him in half!

You don't need to tell me that. Saliva grumbled, mentally looking Melvin up and down with a sigh of disappointment.
Leveling his gun, he went for hitting Jerry in the chest as best he could and squeezed the trigger once more, praying under his breath that it hit something.

"Is that all you have? Com on, is that a weapon or a toy?" Jerry giggled, readying Roar again. He could feel the Fear draining off of the trainee. He fired again, hoping Melvin would have enough sense to leap out of the way- and if not, well. He'd soon learn.

Melvin was blown away, and not by the fact he was actually nearly blown again. That had been a good hit for him! Damn good, and it didn't even get so much as a tickle from the hunter, who was laughing and pointing at his weapon as if he had decided to throw silly string instead of acid rounds.
He didn't want to say that that had been one of his bests while he laughed, but it struck hard to be demeaned in such a way.
What a jacking punk! That was almost dead on!
I barely dented him.
Come on. He's just cocky. Hit him again!
I did hit him!
He had known going in he wasn't going to do much damage. All the hunters he faced kicked his a**, some even laughed, but he had thought in a gun show he'd at least have a bit more to stand on.
He fired again, and while he was glad it didn't miss, it wasn't dead on either.

"I am coming on!" He huffed back, trying to aim but feeling an increasing frustration in barely denting this guy. This was a range battle and he didn't feel as if he had improved any since he had first fired his weapon!
He fired again towards Jerry's chest.
