Dorian was surprised to hear some concern in Ursula's voice when she asked about his mother.
"Well I'm not so sure. It's more of a mental health thing. She's been better lately or so my father has said. I actually haven't seen much of her since she's been gone. She's a witch. She's a half blood." he replied and glanced back at the bubbling brew. It looked like it was a pinkish color now, so it was getting close to being done.
"He likes to socialize and do business with high society, though he hasn't been doing all that much lately. He's been dealing with my mom and getting things together so we can have our own house again. I hope that happens soon. I am getting sick of my pesky younger cousins. They're horrors." He added. "Yes, my father's parents are both wizards. My mother's aren't though. I think my father's parents never forgave him completely for marrying her. Though they are happy that I'm following in their footsteps in the Slytherin House."
Dorian was rather surprised just how much he was telling her. He had never told anyone this before. Then again there was never anyone he trusted enough to share it with.

Ursula nibbled on the corner of her mouth when Dorian elaborated on his mother's condition. When he glanced at the potion, Ursula did likewise and noticed that soon enough, they would have to add the ginger root.
Right when he said the information about his father, something clicked in Ursula's head. "Your father is Sebastian Devereaux." She stated, her eyes narrowing. Her mother told her stories involving Dorian's father--or rather... in her feign attempts to make her father jealous, her mother threw around his name and the name of several other men. Ursula happened to overhear these attempts and it left a bad taste in her mouth. It still does. I didn't realize he was his son... "My mother knows him," Ursula explained, unable to keep the frigidness she felt about the situation out of her voice. Her arms crossed over her chest and Ursula tightened them around her.
After Dorian mentioned that his grandparents still hadn't forgiven their son for marrying a half blood, Ursula looked down. "I'm supposed to marry a pureblood," she mentioned, an annoyed look on her face. So much of her mother revolved around being affluent and a pureblood, of course that was expected of her. But why am I saying that to Dorian? Was it to make him feel ineligible? "Luckily for me, both of my parents went to Durmstrang. Being a Gryffindor is just a making of a legacy... Being 'transferred' from Durmstrang... however..." Ursula clicked her tongue. They were soooo happy with her!

Dorian felt himself cringe when she mentioned his father's name in an icy tone. Great..so somehow his father had been involved in something that messed up her family. It wasn't really that big of a surprise to him. His father was a known womanizer. He had just hoped that none of the kids at school knew. Now his chances of that were much different.
"Yes that's him." He replied gulping. "Of course she would," He said in a bitter tone. "Despite his good qualities, he's also a horrible womanizer. He's the reason why my mother had her mental break. A lady showed up when I was..seven with a daughter that looked like him. My mom couldn't accept that he had messed around with other women. I hate him for that."
Dorian clenched his fists and looked down his jaw clenching with anger. He had actually only learned all of this over the summer from his grandparents. His father had even told him about what had caused his mother's mental breakdown. If they hadn't told him he never would have known. For a long time he had thought he was the reason for what had happened to her.
Dorian looked up when Ursula mentioned she was supposed to marry a pureblood. He couldn't help but feel irritated at this new information. Why the hell hadn't she told him this before? He never would have bothered her in the first place if that were the case.
"Oh well I suppose it's a good thing that we didn't get serious too fast." He said shrugging his shoulders.
Dorian didn't quite understand the rest of what she was saying. He expected she was just annoyed with how things had turned out and how she had come to Hogwarts. Still..why was she clicking her tongue? Didn't she know that was the most annoying thing ever?
Dorian glanced over to the potion again and saw that it was now a deep purple in color. "Ah it's ready now." He motioned her over to add the final ingredient.

Ursula stiffened when Dorian spoke of his father being a womanizer. He hated him? It... didn't make sense to Ursula. Her father was the same way but she didn't hate him, her mother was the stupid one. It was her mother's fault, not her father's. "It's stupid to think that someone could be faithful to just one person..." Ursula retorted, feeling herself warm in rage. Of course she was oblivious to what she was saying in Dorian's context, she thought of her own family when she said what she did. Her mother was miserable to be around--of course her father would cheat.
A frown appeared on Ursula's face when Dorian spoke of not getting serious too fast. Well... I'm glad he's not bitter... Ursula thought sarcastically, turning away from him to gather more ginger root. He was sooo enthusiastic when Ursula told him they were going too quickly earlier, why would he even bring that up again? "Yup." She agreed, gathering up the ginger root in her palm. She told him she was supposed to marry a pureblood... But Merlin's Beard, she wasn't going to clarify now! I don't even want to think of marriage! Ursula gritted, trying not to get too upset.
What good would come of them if whenever they were by each other they started hissing at each other? How tiresome! Ursula waited for the potion to turn the appropriate color before dumping the rest of the ingredients in. And now to wait for a stupid color change...

He couldn't help but notice the look on her face at his angry words. He knew that what he had said made it sound like he truly hated him. "I don't hate him for who he is, I hate him for what he does. There is a difference. He could have told me the truth long ago instead of keeping it from me." he said with a long sigh.
Dorian was a bit taken back by her words. He had often thought it himself, though seeing how happy his grandparents were and how they had been together for over fifty years he knew that it could be done. Just some people weren't good together or for one another. "I've often felt the same way," Dorian replied with another sigh.
He noticed the frown appear on her face and knew his comment had hurt her. He knew his bitterness was coming through in his words and it was all a little too fresh for the both of them. "Sorry, I should just shut up now." Dorian said running his hand through his hair again. He really needed a haircut sometime soon.
Then he suddenly recalled her exact words. She had said "supposed to". Did that mean it wasn't all that set in stone? Dorian couldn't help but brighten up a little at that.
He could see that Ursula was starting to tense up. As though nothing of what he had said before had done any good. He figured it wasn't good for him to be the son of the guy that had caused problems with so many other families, and if he was correct with Ursula's family as well.
"Would you like me to rub your neck? You look a bit tense."

Ursula watched Dorian quickly backtrack and let out a sigh. What was she getting so irritated about? It's because you're not acting like yourself... Ursula told herself. As of right now, she wasn't acting nonchalantly like she normally did... and it was tiresome. But was she supposed to be acting like she always did? What message was she trying to send to Dorian anyway? Flirting was nothing to her but it was something to him and she didn't want to confuse him any further. But that's just the way she acted...
"Oh, you should shut up," Ursula managed to grin, still quite unsure how to act towards him. Might as well test it out... Trial and error seemed as good as method as any.
And he gave her numerous opportunities! "If you want to," Ursula spoke, turning her back towards him. She moved her hair away from her back, pulling it to the side and revealing the nape of her neck. "But you of all people should know I bite." Ursula commented casually, looking back and Dorian with expectant eyes.

Dorian couldn't help but grin at her reply. At least now she was in a better mood. Or at least she appeared happier. He moved so he was standing behind her and slowly started to slowly stroke her neck and shoulders with his fingers.
"Why of course I do." Dorian said leaning in to whisper into her ear. He glanced over at the boiling pot, it wasn't quit done yet. He caught up a stray hair and tucked it up in the rest of her hair.
He marveled in the softness of her skin. He couldn't help but feel happy with how she was trusting him to touch her like this. Her next quip made him chuckle. "Yes I am quite aware." He teased back.
He made circular movements with his thumbs on her shoulders and worked his way up her neck. He made a tsking sound when he felt just how tight her neck muscles were. It was surprising she didn't have a raging headache from it.
"Do you get a lot of headaches?" He asked once more glancing at the potion that was boiling.
It was now a reddish orange color. It should be done in a few more moments. He still had time enough to work out some of the tightness in her neck.
"Well looks like we do pretty well in class, now if we can just figure out how to do that outside of class it would help." He murmured softly.
He noticed that there were a few girls staring at them with jealous and envious looks on their faces. Some boys were staring as well..he couldn't tell if they were annoyed or bothered by the fact that he had his hands on the gorgeous Ursula. Dorian couldn't help but shoot a grin at them and then turn back to working on her neck.

Ursula let out a giggle when Dorian began whispering in her ear. His breath tickled her ear, a part of her body that was particularly sensitive. Ticklish, almost. Of course, she didn't want to let him know that so she just leaned her neck towards his hand and nuzzled it slightly before he actually started the massage. His hands felt comfortable on her shoulders, even as they swept away a loose piece of her hair away from her neck.
"I only get headaches because of certain people," she responded with a short laugh, noticing the look some of the guys were giving Dorian and it caused her to laugh again. Proud of yourself?" She inquired, having caught the goofy grin on Dorian's face, the one he met the other guys' gaze with. "Enough basking," she teased, reaching behind her and placing her hand on Dorian's. Once her hands were steady on his, she lifted them off of her and turned around. "The potion's orange now." She indicated, drawing his gaze away from her and towards the potion with her hand.
"A wit-sharpening potion..." She glanced down at the orange potion, "I wonder how well it works," She mused, glancing at the Professor. "Assuming we made it correctly," her words were light and a mischievous. I wonder if the professor would notice...

Dorian rather liked the sound of her giggling. He couldn't help but grin at that. He figured it was the feel of someone whispering in her ear. He had experience that before of course she didn't know that.
"Oh? I suppose I'd be one of those 'People'?" he asked sarcastically. He knew that he had caused her enough headaches over the past few months so it was him that she was referring to.
He was a bit embarrassed when she caught him grinning at the other boys in the room and ducked his head. "Not really," He replied with a shrug of his shoulders. He was rather sad when she pulled her hands off her shoulders. "All right I guess I can do that."
Dorian glanced over to the potion and saw that it was indeed orange. He quickly walked over and pulled the cauldron off the magical burner and then turned off the flame. "Looks like it came out right to me." He said glancing into it.
His gaze shot up to her when she suggested using some of it. "Oh, who should we test it on? Is there a dim witted Gryffindor you have in mind?" He asked leaning in closer to her so other kids wouldn't overhear them.

Ursula glanced up with him, taken aback. "Why would we waste it on one of those loafs?" She frowned, standing up straight. As she did, she noticed that the Professor's watchful eyes were planted on her and Dorian, as if she read their intentions just from the looks in their eyes. She definitely could've, considering that they both probably looked very suspicious. Not to mention... They were still the center of most attention, even if they were no longer touching each other.
Ursula watched, not in the slightest bit worried, as Professor Fairfront walked over to their cauldron and peeked at the color of their concoction. She gave a nod of approval before pouring the potion into a container and taking it back to her store room to grade. "Alas," Ursula gave a sad sigh, "Looks like we lost our chance." But it wasn't like they couldn't brew another batch if they chose to.
Before Ursula could say another word to Dorian, the class bell sounded and Professor Fairfront dismissed them, saying that they were free to leave as long as they cleaned up. Ursula began wiping down their cutting board and gathered up the cauldron too. "I have a break period after this. You can leave if you'd like," Ursula told Dorian, pushing back some of her hair with her free hand.

Dorian was surprised that she hadn't figured out he had been kidding about giving it to some random kid. He couldn't help but laugh at the expression on her face. "I was joking silly. I wasn't being serious." He told her with a twinkle in his eye.
Dorian caught her gaze and followed it up to see the professor was watching them. Great..just what he needed. Dorian shoved his hands into his pockets and tried to look innocent as the professor walked over to them and looked at their concoction.
Dorian was glad that she found it acceptable but a bit sad that she had taken it away with her. Oh well..he'd just have to make some more later on. "Oh well we could make some more another time if you'd like."
Dorian was a bit sad when the bell sounded and the Professor dismissed them. Dorian frowned when Ursula told him he could go as she began to clean up. "Well if you're going to wash the counter and the small items I'll wash the cauldron. Then I'll go."
That being said, He grabbed the cauldron and lugged it over to the sink where he filled it with some soap and hot water and moved it over to another side to wash it up. It took him about ten minutes of hard scouring to get it completely clean. He rinsed it out, dried it and stacked it in the corner with the other clean ones.
"See you around Ursula." He told her as he left.

Ursula nodded and cleaned the utensils, putting them back in their place. Right as she placed the knife back in the drawer, she heard Dorian bid her farewell. She glanced at him and nodded, "Later," and turned her attention back to the drawer. The door opened and closed, leaving Ursula in the room with the remainder of the buzzing students and Professor Fairfront.
Tentatively, she placed her hand on her shoulder where Dorian touched earlier and bit the corner of her lip. Well. She was just confused. Am I doing the right thing? She couldn't help but wonder, sighing. No matter how hard she tried, she was still a bit weary about how to act with Dorian. By all means, he seemed to welcome her flirting and he matched her... But didn't he basically call her a tease earlier? Not that her feelings were hurt because of what he said, of course, Ursula wasn't under any illusion that she was some sort of saint.
Hm... Ursula heaved another sigh. She might as well go with it. Whatever it was. Besides, the school year was almost over, perhaps break would clear things up some. Puppy love, hmm? Chances were that by the time school resumed, Dorian would have seen the errors of his way. Liking someone like her would just bite him in the arse. That's why she had no expectations of him... What a sadly realistic view! Ursula wanted to laugh at herself. What kind of kid thought like this?
