The punch made him raise an eyebrow and rub where she had hit him though lightly. He was smiling a little at this point.
"Mmm. Maybe. I mean it was good because you were protecting a fellow comrade but on the other hand she wasn't ... herself anymore. You guys were getting pretty fanatic and drawn in by something," he murmured softly as he looked over at Ariane, "I got scared for you...So I stepped in to try and pull you away."

"Maybe she wasn't herself anymore, but just before she faded away, I was pretty sure that she said 'I'm sorry' to us," Ariane replied, frowning a bit, "Bix probably... Was still conscious in there, somewhere, when he was struck down."
The thought angered her for some reason, as she thought about how he might had felt - killed by a fellow hunter.
"Yeah... Something about home," She looked even more agitated at this point, heaving a frustrated sigh before shaking her head, "Whatever that insanity was, it knew how to pull people in..." She paused briefly, eyeing Jude for a while before grinning, "And I still owe you a meal for that."

He seemed to think about it for a moment, "...I probably would have wanted to be struck down at that point to avoid hurting others I work with and might care about," he said softly, "especially if there is no real promise of a cure for what had happened."
The hypothetical had no real bearing on who he would want to strike him down just that he'd want to be brought down before he could lash out at anyone else.
Her frustrated sigh brought him back to her staring at her and then chuckled at her repeated offer of a meal, "Yeah, sure, when we feel more rested. Right now I'd just be happy if I wasn't alone tonight."

"That has some truth in it too," Ariane shrugged, thinking on it for a bit, "If there's no cure, I suppose I wouldn't mind being mauled by people I used to work with... Provided they really did look for a cure first..." But they didn't even bother with Bix; at least they tried it with Ceres.
"Oh? I guess I'll just have to stay here a while then," She laughed; besides, she was pretty tired, and didn't feel like moving around, "I should head back later though... Ryan was kind enough to let me bunk with him, so I want to see how his arm is holding up."

"Mmm, to be fair until then no one really had a clue what in the world was even going on anymore," he said softly with a bit of a shrug. He made a small face, "It always gets so hectic, always ends in a fight, and suffering..."
Jude shrugged, "If I fall asleep on you I guess I can't complain if you leave or not," he countered with a small laugh. "I hope his arm is okay...Caelius broke my hand once..."
The fact was he was getting pretty close to dozing off now that he was slowly starting to relax.

"We're soldiers, in a way," Ariane muttered, "I know that some people were just following orders - and maybe, a year ago, I would be one of them - but things had changed. Heh, hopefully it's for the better."
She stretched her arms up above her head, loosened her scarf, and then flopped backwards onto the bed, her legs still hanging off the side of the bed. She stared at the ceiling, "They say sleeping helps pass the time... If they can get Ryan to seek medical help, he wouldn't be back in the room so early anyway."

"Maybe it is for the better or maybe we should question things more, I don't know. It seems like if we ask too many questions we get the door slammed in our face but if we don't ask enough then we are left in the dark," he let out a small sigh of frustration. Trying to find that delicate balance was always difficult.
Jude hummed a little, "Guess it does, just if we aren't careful we might find ourselves sleeping in those pods again because we aren't 'taking part' in missions or some arbitrary s**t like that."

"It's why we have to climb higher," Ariane answered, her brow knitted together, "The more authority we have, the more they'll let us know... Probably. At the start, we'll probably still be treated like nobodies, but with time, who knows?" At least, that was the plan.
"Hey, not that sort of long term sleeping," She closed her eyes, yawning; she had no intention of being stuffed back into a pod, "A nap. Right now... Just for the rest of the day."

Jude let out a deep sigh but he nodded a bit, "Higher..." he said quietly as he shifted his body a bit to face toward Ariane, "I'll do my best," he said simply as he curled up a bit until his forehead touched against Ariane's shoulder - it was incidental more than anything else. His eyes closed.
"...Just for the rest of the day is okay," he said quietly.

Feeling something touching her shoulder, Ariane opened her eyes and turned her head, raising an eyebrow at Jude's position on the bed. She then continued to stare at her friend for a little while, smiled, and then went back to staring at the ceiling.
"Yeah, just for... The rest of the day..." She murmured, closing her eyes as she relaxed.
