Rishima gave a nod of his head, "Yeah... I really don't want that." He murmured, while he hated having to cover his antennae since it really felt as though it dampened his senses he knew that it was important to do so. The last thing he wanted was for them to freeze and then fall off, where would he be then after all? He would be quite out of luck, that was for sure. Moving away from his sister he set about pulling on the clothing that the Ice Tribe of Zena had shared with them, not minding any of the extra layers until he pulled up the hood and instantly he was feeling a little on edge as his antennae were covered and no longer picking up delicate vibrations for him. It really was a terrible feeling... but one they wouldn't have to deal with for much longer. They would hunt for their food, prepare the rations, talk with the elders, and in two days time they would heading for warmer climates!

Once he was bundled up, grumbling a bit as he stood there, he turned to look at Itzal and gave a little whistle. Almost instantly the Radaku was at his side and he reached out to take his spear from the friendly beast's back, giving him a pat on the head, "Good boy." He complimented him, giving him a smile before he turned to look over at Jerarda, "I'm ready when you are." Or at least as ready as one could be when it came to venturing out into the snow so that they could track and kill an animal that they weren't accustomed to dealing with. How he missed fishing.

You would think that Jerarda would be as smart as the other, using many layers to keep one's self warm and yet she felt that it constricted her movements too much. Sure she wore extra layers, but probably not enough to keep herself properly warm but it would prevent her to get frostbite she hoped. Pulling her own hood up and over her head she had the same experience as Rishi feeling a bit..on edge not being able to sense the vibrations in the air properly. But on the other hand they would be so cold otherwise it would be hard to tell what vibrations were true and what was just from her shivering.

Giving a stretch and a yawn she went to retrieve her own spear and then turned towards the cave entrance. At least the wind didn't look to be howling this day, and the sky fairly clear. Gesturing for the other to follow she grit her teeth and then headed for the front of the cave . Yes it was a clear day, it would make for hunting a lot more bearable though what they would be hunting she hadn't a clue.

"Well...I don't suppose you paid attention to the creatures here..." She managed watching her breath as it exhaled into the air before her.

Rishima gave a soft hiss as they stepped out into the cold landscape of Tendaji, not appreciative of the cold even in the least bit, and was that much happier for the warm clothing that the Ice Tribe had provided to their visitors. He was looking forward to returning to the warm, damp climate of Jauhar like nothing else but before they could even think to head home they would need to prepare for the journey back. It was something he was only more then happy to before the preparations for, even if it meant trudging about in the snow. Turning to look over at his sister for a moment when she asked him about the creatures of the land he seemed to think on it for a moment, "I would say that the best thing we could go for is the one called..." He trailed off for a moment, seeming to be thinking on the name of the creature before he finally recalled the name, giving a little snap of his fingers, "Roati. It's a small, horned creature that the Ice Tribe says has not only a nice, soft pelt but really tasty meat as well." He recalled talking with one of them about it not too long ago and he had to admit that it was probably the best thing that they could go after.

He turned to look over the terrain with his mismatched eyes, "They are about... this tall." He held a hand a couple of feet above the ground, "At least that is what I am told. So I am not sure if we want to try to get one or two of them. What do you think?" He wondered if they should go after two, that would mean more meat for the two of them, less they would have to hunt, instead they would just concentrate on the return journey, "We don't have really have a need of the pelts where we are going, so there is always the option of trading them for things we do need to the Ice Tribe. I am sure they could use the pelts... ahhh, unless you want one, sister?" It would seem as though the travels was helping a bit when it came to coming up with ideas, though each time he still tended to look to Jerarda, making sure that what he suggested was alright with her, as though he didn't want to upset her. She was after all his idol and no a person he wanted to upset.

The alidike gave a hrming sound, pursing her lips as she shuddered against the cold. A large part of her just wanted to grab Rishima and drag themselves back indoors and plunk themselves back in front of the fire. The wind..was nasty, the temperature lower than she would ever deem as a realistic one. How anything managed to survive here she had no idea.

Jerarda had taken a moment to think over his question, should they try and hunt for more than one and get extra pelts for themselves? Well she supposed even if they were coming back home they could trade the pelts for other goods as the temperature rose along the trek home. A hand tightened around the shaft of her spear and she gave a long exhalation, seeing her breath in front of her only seemed to sour her mood more.

"How about we try for one...if they travel in herds then we can see about downing more than that...but for now..meat, if they are as small as you say then perhaps we will be forced to hunt down more..." The woman gave a small shrug from under her cloak before she stepped forward. "At any rate we best press forward before the weather decides it can get worse or night fall catches us...and I would rather neither happen."

A huff and she tipped her spear in the direction she wanted to head and then proceeded to tred that way. The snow was deeper than she liked and she was forced to use the butt of her spear to figure out the depth before taking each step forward.

Turning to look over at Jerarda when she gave a sigh Rishima found himself wondering if maybe they should go back inside. She didn't look at all pleased with the idea of leaving their warm hide out and into the snow but it had to be done if they wanted to get their food. There was always a chance that the snow would start to fall, making it hard to even find the little beasts which would likely bed down somewhere to avoid the snows. When she spoke he gave his friend a smile, "Sounds good, we will focus on just getting one for now unless they are in a group." Maybe, if they were in a group, he would be able to get one and Jerarda could get one as well. It all depended on when they found them, where, and how many of them had gathered together.

It wasn't long before the halfbreed did as he always did, following along after Jerarda, stepping into the foot prints she left behind since she was taller then him and he would likely get buried before he did due to that. Best he stuck to the steps that were premade in the snow... though after traveling a distance he found himself giving pause, turning to look over toward something not too far from them, "Ahhh... Jerarda? What do you think?" He asked, seeing a set of foot prints that seemed a whole lot bigger then what a Raoti was. He wondered if it belonged to those massive creatures with the crystal tusks he'd heard of from one of the Ice Tribe villages. He sure hoped not, he didn't think that the two of them would be able to deal with one of those so easily alone but he felt that Jerarda would likely try to take the thing out regardless, "We should probably look for the smaller, Raoti footprints." He suggested, though worried that she wouldn't want to do that. He knew her fell enough that if she saw the bigger beast that she would want to go poke at it... here was to hoping the tracks were old.

Jerarda hadn't spotted the tracks that Rishima had found, after all so distracted by the cold she was having a hard time focusing on her next step ahead of her, never mind searching for tracks. Half turning like a frozen zombie of a creature she grunted, a puff of air obscuring her from what Rishima was trying to show her. Rumbling she waved a hand in front of her face trying to disperse the vapors.

Squinting she trudged back over to take a look at these tracks Rishima had discovered. Raising an eyebrow at the sight of them, they were...significantly bigger than a raoti by the description of them.

"Why? I think we should follow these tracks, after all the less time we are out here the better...so if this one can make our goal easier I say we hunt it down." Jerarda proclaimed as she pushed passed Rishi and began to fallow the tracks. She had no idea what beast made them, but if they were big that meant they would only have to kill one right?

Rishima stood there a moment, his mismatched eyes going a bit wide, and then he gave a soft sighing sound, "Oops." Perhaps it would have been best if he weren't to have pointed out those tracks he thought to himself as he turned to wade along after her through the deep snows, "Ahh... so you want to follow it?" He asked, just to make sure. He wasn't sure what he thought of the idea, he didn't much want to risk either of their safely when it came to a massive beast like the Mammu but he supposed that if she already had it in her mind that she was going to hunt the massive beast. Shifting in place he seemed to debate on it before he turned to look back at the cave they had recently vacated, giving a whistle.

The sound drew Itzal after them, the beast trotting along after him, growling and complaining about the cold just as the two of them had been doing, but seemed ready to follow after Rishima anywhere, "You should come with us Itzal. If we actually catch the thing we will need your help dragging it back." He explained, he wasn't sure if the two of them would be able to drag the thing back. Patting the beast on the head he turned back to Jerarda, "I... I heard that they have crystal tusks... do you think... I could keep one?" He asked, sounding uncertain, not wanting to seem at all greedy or anything but one of them would be neat to have if it were anything as pretty as he'd heard that they were. And the beast did have two of them, or so he'd gathered from stories and the sight of one of the skulls that he'd seen hanging up in the Ice Tribe village, "I suppose the tusks are big though... so maybe just a piece of one would be fine." Well, he supposed in the long run it just all depended on whether or not they actually caught up with and took down a Mammu. It was quite the feat to do given the size but they were both Blades so perhaps they could handle it? He sure hoped so... well, no. What he hoped was that they stumbled across a herd of Raoti instead, but the defeating of a Mammu if they did find that first would be a close second in what he was hoping for.

Jerarda was quite ignorant to the fact what they were hunting was a mammu, in fact she barely payed attention to any of the fauna in this wretched place, all she knew was this thing was far bigger than what Rishima had described they hunt prior to this discovery. If she had any idea what it was she was tracking she may of actually of hesitated at tracking one down. Though she prided herself in her skills...somehow only two of.them...okay three would have a hard time actually bringing it down.

"Of course I want to follow it.." she stated a bit too bluntly, the less time she was out here the better, and if they could bring something larger down that meant they wouldn't have to be out here as long. At least that is what her frostbitten brain kept telling herself and boy was it going to be in for a surprise when they found what they were tracking.

"Don't you want to put your skills to the test?" She called over her shoulder before coming up short as she tripped over a hidden rock, nearly tumbling into the snow. Jera's reaction rate was almost a marvel..if comical to watch. For it ended up with the alkidike half turning and hoping on one foot a couple of moments before she managed to regain her balance.

When she said that she wanted to follow it Rishima gave a little nod of his head, "Alright." He was sure that she was going to say that and since he knew there was no way to talk her out of it save for maybe her actually finding the Mammu they were following, he continued to follow along after his sister. Maybe once she saw what it was that they were tracking she would think better of poking at one them he thought himself, his wrapped antennae giving a twitch. That twitch served only to annoy the normally calm Rishima since he was picking up nothing from them. If anything that only made them twitch that much more, the thin extensions seeming to he showing off his aggravation at the moment. He hated how it made him feel so off to have them covered up... but it had to be done. He didn't want them to freeze and fall off, then where would he be? He just had to keep looking ahead toward when they left these icy lands and he would be able to wear as much, or as little, as he wanted. At least so long as it was still decent that was.

"Eh? Oh... yeah, I do want to test my skills just... I..." He would much rather test them out for the first time against something a little smaller, especially since he was well aware that he'd done little to nothing against the Legendary Beast that they had run across. A Mammu was smaller then the Legendary Beast, surely, but at the same time it was much, much bigger then the Raoti. He'd rather work himself up to bigger prey but he knew that Jerarda didn't feel the same, "Yeah, we should see what we can do..." He murmured, deciding that while he didn't want to mess with a massive beast, would rather take the Raoti and head back to the warmth of their cave that he also didn't want to act weak. As a member of the of the Alkidike he couldn't allow himself to be a weakling, couldn't let himself be afraid, even if the Mammu were intimidating just in stories alone.

The halfbreed was dragged from his thoughts when Jerarda suddenly stumbled, something that drew a cry fo surprise from him, "Jerarda?! Are you alright?" He asked, hurrying forward after his bouncing sister, a look of worry on his face, "What happened? Are you hurt?" Maybe they should head back? He didn't know if he wanted her hunting giant Mammu with an injury, not that he could exactly carry her back against her will.

Her face was actually flushed from embarrassment and shock. She couldn't believe that she just....almost fell. The snow had really got one over her, and she had never felt so undignified as she did at this moment. Righting herself she planted the butt of the spear into the snow to balance herself.

"I am ..fine. Come one lets hurrah." Came her huff, though she was't annoyed with Rishima it was hard to figure what direction her irritation stemmed from. It was primarily a combination of the cold...hating the cold, hated being cold and looking foolish. Combined both of those things together and you had one very grumpy alkidike.

Striding forward the woman was extra careful of rocks as she progressed making their trek slower but more...doable. It felt like they had been out there for hours...when it had perhaps been little over an hour that they had stumbled over the new tracks and proceeded to follow it.

Mammu were not terribly fast creatures, and often traveled in herds...why this one was alone was anyone's guess, but soon the pair would come upon it and the alkidike stopped dead in her tracks as her eyes laid upon it. You could see a series of expressions crossing over her features, a mixture of awe and then bewilderment. How the heck were they going to bring that down? Just the two of them..well three of them anyway against THAT?

The mammu was a bull and was quite thankfully ignoring the trio that had come upon it. Using its trunk it was pushing down a rather pathetic excuse of a tree down, the groan and creak indicating that it was succeeding in its task.

Rishima hurried along after Jerarda who was insisting that she was fine and that they had to hurry. Hands clutching onto his spear he did his best to keep himself in Jerarda's foot prints, to keep himself from sinking in the snow. The last thing he wanted was to get himself stuck and lose Jerarda because she was in a rush to catch up with the Mammu that they were tracking. When she suddenly came to a stop in front of him Rishima bumped into her, a squeak escaping him, before he lifted his gaze to look up at the strong back of his sister, "Jerarda?" He asked, then peeked around her, spotting what it was that she was looking at, "Ohhh..." It would seem that they had found what they were looking for, and damn but this one was huge.

"Ahhh... so... we found it." He murmured, giving another squeak as the massive thing pushed against a scraggly tree, wincing at the creaking sound the tree was making before it was knocked over onto its side, "Oh... ow..." He could imagine that being either of them. Surely if the thing could snap a tree then they would be able to snap one of them. Looking around he set to work trying to find anything else for them to hunt. Surely there must be something else around? Something smaller? Something that couldn't destroy a tree as though it were a mere twig, right? He really, really hoped so. As though being blessed something else moving across the top of the snow and he gave a gasp of delight, "Oh, sweet Aisha..." He murmured to himself before he pointed off to the side of where the Mammu was currently breaking the already fallen tree by rubbing it's tusks against it.

"There are... ahh... smaller things over there, Jerarda, the Raoti..." He said in a whispered voice, not wanting to really draw the attention of the big, Mammu bull toward them. Better that it kept its attention fully upon that tree instead of deciding that he wanted to try rub those glittering tusks against them.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 02, 2013 8:47 pm

Jerarda was staring at the creature, it was far bigger than ...well most things in Jahaur! The menzuri even felt smaller than this beast. At least it didn't seem to be poisonous? Then again it did have two ...rather large and powerful tusks... The woman sagged slightly, she should of paid more attention to the foot prints.. of COURSE they belonged to something this massive and yet she had been so stubborn about following it.

The sound of the tree snapping brought a cringe through her body, numbly she watched as the creature went to strip the tree of its limbs eating everything including the bark. Resourceful creature...

Blinking she looked over her shoulder at Rishima who was trying to not hurt her pride by offering a different solution to their problem of needing food. But Jera was a rather ...stupidly proud and arrogant woman. IF she had said she was going to ..hunt...this...then HUNT this she would. Right....now where to start.

"N..o lets see if..perhaps we can work with this.." She managed slowly, her tongue feeling thick and stuck in her throat.

Rishima gave a soft sound in his throat when his sister refused to go after the Raoti, seeming as though she really did want to pick a fight with the Mammu. No, no that didn't seem like a good idea! It was breaking that tree apart, eating the bark off it, what if it decided that it wanted some nice, tasty Alkidike for dessert? He gave turned to look over at the tiny Raoti once more, "Ahhh..." How to go about this, how to get Jerarda to change her mind and to leave the large Mammu alone. Then it clicked in his mind he knew exactly what it was that he had to do to try to get her to change her mind, "Ah! You... know, maybe we should stick to the Raoti, sister... if you think about it... if either of us got hurt we would be stuck here in Zena a while longer."

Maybe that would help? Maybe if she realized that they might be stuck here a while longer she would decide that it would be a better idea to just go after the smaller beasts, "I mean... we don't want to be stuck up here where its cold any longer then we already have, right? And... there are bigger things in Jauhar we can test our skills on." He added, figuring that she might need something else to look forward to chasing after to help to sooth her pride over the idea of actually giving up when it came to dealing with the large Mammu that had abandoned what was left of the tree to go trudging toward it's next target. How he kind of wished the thing would move off faster... but then again give its size he figured that it didn't have to run or really do anything that it didn't want to do. It was huge, it was strong, and it would like throw that weight around if the need arose. For all of those reasons he felt that they should likely leave it alone... but he didn't want to outright tell Jerarda 'no' because that would just make her want to go after the thing that much more eagerly. What he felt he had to do was to make it seem like something she wanted to do, to leave it alone, instead of as a loss.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 03, 2013 8:51 pm

The hunter with her might spear paused, she had only managed to take two steps, the bull still ignoring her as it felt she was no threat. Looking over her shoulder at Rishima as 'she' had brought up a good point. Not that she ...wasn't relieved to not fight the beast, no...but it wouldn't do for either of them getting hurt and delaying the trip home. No...that wouldn't do at all.

Giving a grunt she planted her spear into the ground and nodded her head slowly,

"You speak wisely sister, perhaps we should hunt the raoti instead.." She wasn't afraid of the mammu, but she couldn't ignore Rishi's brilliant remark. Turning the alkidike went to follow the much smaller tracks intent on their new prey that wouldn't see them killed in the long run.

The mammu paused regarding the one retreating form before it looked in Rishima's direction. It gave a huff through its trunk and a low rumbling emitted from deep in its chest perhaps it was a farewell as it soon then turned and started off int he opposite direction.

Rishima gave a sighing sound of relief when his sister decided to give up her pursuit of the Mammu, even turning to him to give him a rather nice compliment about how he had spoken wisely, "Ahh... t-thank you." He murmured, cheeks coloring a bit, his antennae giving a little twitch from where they were hidden under his hood, "Ahh, so the Raoti then." He said, turning to follow along after her to go after those creatures instead. They were smaller, easier to deal with, and all they had to do was take a couple of them and they would be set for meat for a time.

Turning he glanced over at the Mammu, his mismatching eyes going wide when he realized the beast was looking at him, before it gave him a sort of... farewell? He blinked a couple times the hurried along after his sister, wondering if she'd seen that but decided that it wasn't too important one way or the other. All he knew was that he had to get moving so that he didn't fall behind her all due to him likely just seeing something. The hunt, and the meant obtained from it, was far more important then him imagining that a beast had been trying to talk to him. It was just silly, right? Right.
