Vonali cackled at Attor's surprise but walked with him up to the table. She visibly grimaced at the assignment. She was not a fan of potions and at his suggestions she just shrugged. "I don't know. I don't pay attention that well."
She had copied these notes from Kenny so hopefully it had all the details. She skimmed them and nodded. " But doxicide sounds about right."

Attor blinked she didn't seem to care so much about the potion now. "Well if you are sure its doxicide then it's not that hard. Shall I just start or should I explain what needs to be done?" Attor asked rounding to the other side of the table.
"You don't seem to care as much about this project as you let on." Attor said with a small smirk trying to push any worries away for now.

Von huffed and stood opposite Attor. "Hey I brought all this stuff down here, got it set up and would have fought with it myself if you'd decided to stay outside with the hussy." She slapped her hands on the table a bit harder than she'd meant too.
She took a deep breath and sighed calming herself down. " Look I hate potions class but if you don't think you can help I'll do it by myself. She stared at the notes and mumbled to herself as she started working on it ignoring him for the moment.

Attor jumped a bit apparently it wasn't ok to joke with her yet. He sighed and looked away for a moment.
He then looked up an quickly snagged the root she was about to cut aimlessly. "You have to cut it at a certain angle or is changes the juices...." He took the extra knife and started cutting the root. "You don't have to like it....I can always help it's my second favorite subject...." Attor said in a quite tone not looking at her. He seemed mopey again rather like a puppy with its tail tucked between its legs.

Von sighed and let him take the root and knife. " Sorry, I'm just a bad judge on humor right now. The last couple of weeks have been...difficult for me. What can I do to help?" For a moment Von looked depleted she kind of stared at the table lost. She'd been so sure he'd been avoided her like Marc that she'd emotionally prepared herself for it.
She watched carefully as Attor cut the root. " Would you show me how to do it right?"

"Its ok....I didn't make it any better by letting you down...So I understand." Attor said still concentrating on what he was doing.
Attor stopped cutting to look at her and he nodded his head yes. He moved around to her side of the table. "You have to slant the knife and cut and an angle like this." Attor said showing her the cut he made. "When I was stuck at my Aunt's house the only things I was allowed to do was clean, help her with potions, and read my books. I choose mostly to read the books so I'm a little ahead this year if you ever have questions." Attor said trying to stay serious now. He would let her be the one to make jokes or such if there were any to be made. Attor felt like crawling into a hole again, he always made mistakes and upset people some how it seemed. Would he ever learn the right way to handle a situation?

Von watching intently as he showed her. "It wasn't that you let me down as much as it gave me an odd sense of deja-vu. You've always been so organized, that's all." She took the knife and root and attempted to make a cut. "Like this?"
She bit the inside of her cheek as she concentrated and thought about the situation she was in, yet again. "Read anything of interest? Any new charms I should have already?" She looked up and smiled at him before winking.

"No I used to be well organized. I'm fumbling now. I'm trying to get back into some sort of flow, but its not working as well as I'm trying to make everyone think. I am really sorry for worrying you. I'll get a book or something to write things down in...just in case I get messed up on things again." Attor gave a sigh how could he get her to understand just how messed up he was anymore. He handed her the knife and root so she could try. "Yeah that's about right."
"Not really, nothing off the top of my head, mostly the potions stuck since that's what I'm into." Attor said with a sigh he supposed if anyone he could be honest with Von and show a little weakness to her. She had proven she would not betray him in anyway. " I don't exactly like my situation you know. Its got me stressed out. I mean I'm going to Tynan's home for the summer, but its not really a home is it? I mean Tynan is my friend, but his dad is looking at me as an asset to his home. .....I've been looking to buy a place, but no one will sell to someone my age. Either way the thought of being alone in a house isn't comforting either." Attor was quite for the moment before his hands seemed to clench. It was about time Vonali knew exactly what happened to shake him so. "...My dad ....tried to kill me...I don't know why....I didn't want to tell many people in fear of what it might do to me or my family. If it wasn't for Quatzequatel getting startled and striking at my dad I would have been hit by the attack full force and would not be here right now. Quatzequatel is dead I only got the reflect that gave me these scars. My mother stopped father from attacking again and had me to flee the house alone to my Aunt's...........I just thought ...telling you this might help you understand if I do something off for me..." Attor finished he had cried about this enough and was on to anger but he held it all in just staring at the table in silence now.

Von understood trying to get back on track, she'd been attempting that for months. She felt bad for having made his day complicated and made a note to just go hunt him down every time he was late so she didn't explode again. She smiled when he said she was cutting it right. As his sigh caught her ear she put the knife down and turned to look at him.
She nodded about staying at other's not being home. She could understand that since she'd been pawned off most of her life to one relative or another. She was about to speak up when she saw his hand clench and she stopped. Without thinking she placed her hand on his as he spoke of the summer's activities. by the end of his speech she had to sit down, though she didn't move her hand.
Sure she didn't get along with her family but no one had tried to kill her, as far as she knew. The thought of that level of betrayal struck her and her anger started to rise. "The bloody b*****d." She stood and wrapped her arms around him tightly. " I won't tell anyone. And when we're older we'll kick his a**." She whispered as they hugged. She let go of him and stepped back.
" I'll try and keep that in mind, but I'm going to apologize now on the few occasions I forget myself or take a joke too far." She gave him one of her rare smiles. " So this root is cut, now what?"

Attor's head snapped to her as she she she spoke finally. The anger in her voice sounding just as strong if not stronger then the own he held inside him. His arms wrapped round her in return and he made a slight sound. Ok so maybe it wasn't full anger yet he was still very upset about it. His father had never seemed to like him, but he never thought his father would attempt to kill him either. He held in his emotions though he couldn't break down in front of her in a class room like this for anyone to see. ".....I don't know how...but i intend to find a way....it does me well you know you'll help me." Attor said after a moment from her stepping away from him.
"And I'll apologize now for the same sort of things. I know I'm bound to mess up again before the year is up, but I'll try my best not to." Attor said with a very weak smile his mind was still on that horrible night.
"Um...right, you just scoop it into the cauldron juices and all then bring it to a boil." Attor said his face twisting as he recalled the the potions instructions.

Vonali nodded and scooped the root up and placed it in the cauldron. As she waited for it to boil she turned to Attor. "Then we agree." She stuck out her hand to shake his and make the deal final in her head.
She refused to think on it anymore for fear she'd get too pissed to be nice to anyone.Her hand idly unclasped and clasped her necklace. She hated waiting, another reason potions weren't her thing. She sat there debating if she should tell Attor she knew he liked her or if she should keep her big mouth shut. So far the quiet option was winning but not by much.
It seemed Vonali's sub conscious had made the decision for her when she accidently opened the locket too far and the music within started playing. She hadn't even the lapse as she started to sing softly with the song.

Attor blinked a bit confused till he thought about Von and her deals. He smiled a bit despite himself and shook her hand. It was nice to know he wasn't going to face his father alone.
Attor was watching the pot carefully stirring so it wouldn't burn. He seemed at home with potions like it was something he enjoyed. Attor wanted the quite to last a little bit so he said nothing while they waited.
Attor stopped stirring and tilted his head towards the sound of her singing with the locket. It made his heart ache slightly to hear it now. She must know that the locket was to mean more then a simple friendship gift. He listened for awhile before finally looking at her. "You know don't you?"

His voice cut through to her tiny trance and it too k her a moment to realize what he'd asked. Once she got her barrings she quickly closed the locket and stared at the table before nodding slowly. " It came open later the night you gave it to me." She risked a look at him terrified he'd just get up and leave.
She'd never forgotten herself like she did with Attor and she mentally chided herself and prepared herself for his next words. She gulped again and stared at the pot. "Do you want it back?" She kept the fear out of her voice as she was in a moment transported to the day Marc threw all his drawings in the trash and refused to talk to her again. She didn't know if she could handle that again but nothing she could do at the moment but wait.

Attor looked away to the cauldron again he caught his breath a little. So she did in fact think he had started to avoid her that was the last thing he had wanted to make her feel. In a way he had, but it wasn't going to be a permanent thing. He just wanted to try and get his mind off her in a romantic way and dating others seemed the best way to do that.
"Of course I don't want it back." Attor said turning to offer her a smile. "It's a gift I gave you because...you're special to me....just cause I can't have you doesn't change that."
He waited a moment before speaking again. "I know now why you were so mad. You thought I was avoiding you like Marc and I guess I was in a way, but it wasn't going to be forever. I was just trying to find someone that could get my mind off you....which didn't work anyways. I know you're back with Kenny now and I want to respect that. It was foolish of me to fall so swiftly from friend to hopes of courting. So don't worry about it. I'm not going anywhere unless you decide you don't want me around anymore. We are friends and nothing will change that."

Von wanted to kick herself repeatedly. "I'm truly sorry. I had ment what I'd said that day. Thank you for the locket. I adore it." She was fumbling for what to say and it was starting to frustrate her.
She blushed as he caught on to her own secret about today and she too stared as the table feeling horrible."I'm not sorry about telling her to get lost. You can do better. She's no where near my league." She smiled and winked at Attor letting him know that she was being playful, least mostly. "Gerf! Has that thing boiled yet?" And she grabbed his hand for a moment and looked him straight in the eye. " I'll never tell you to go away. I want us to be at least friends for life."
