Celsus swayed where he knelt, trying desperately to keep from giving in to the blackness that threatened to pull him under. Even if he survived this, he still needed enough strength to get home - and if Tolliver was home, how was he to explain himself, explain the injuries?

Too many questions, too little answers.

"A little better," Celsus conceded, smiling up at her. "Though I hardly doubt that you'll get very far. You're not exactly what they call focused. Your anger blinds you, and that, my dear, is never a good thing."

The spear slammed into his side, Celsus giving out a sharp gasp of surprise, his eyes flying open. Pain ripped through his abdomen like a wildfire, hot and burning, and he clenched his teeth together, trying to keep from calling out.

He could hear sirens. The General was grinning ferally, and Celsus closed his eyes, hearing the soft rustle of displaced air as she teleported away, vanishing into thin air.

"I have no doubt you will be," said Celsus quietly, and staggered to his feet, slipping into the shadows before the police could notice him.
