"And how gracefully you take my courting," Celsus responded cheerfully, pacing in a slow circle around the general. He let his shoulders rise and fall in a simple shrug, eyes alight with mischief and careful calculation.

"No wish for pain, but I do wish for opportune moments," he said, and his smile was genuine, a tilt of his head to the side, red hair falling across his face. "And believe me, I care quite a bit."

He dived, swinging a leg out towards the general in an attempt to unbalance him.

"I do try and mind my manners. I find that with some it's far easier than with others." He did try, even if he was insulting he did do it as...politely as he could, in most cases. There were times he was sure he was downright rude and offensive, but sometimes it was simply so hard. "I do hope you enjoy this dance." He spoke, though his voice was perhaps a little too sweet and kind.

"And this is opportune?" He questioned with an arched brow as he watched and waited. The other was looking for an opening, he knew there was no way to cover everything, so he waited to see what opening the knight would find. And then the other was diving and aiming for his legs. That one worked often enough, and was used often, that he wasn't overly surprised when he landed but the grip on his weapon hadn't faltered and so while on the ground he struck out at the other with the long spear like weapon.

"I'm glad there is at least some semblance of politeness in this world," said Celsus cheerfully, just before the spear collided with his side, and he went staggering sideways, giving a grunt of mingled pain and surprise. He rubbed his torso - where there would most likely be a bruise by tomorrow morning - and straightened, smiling a little.

"Perhaps not entirely opportune," he consented, lifting both of his hands in acquiesce. "I do have the distinct impression that I am quite at a disadvantage here."

He darted forward, aiming a kick at the General's side this time.

"I do believe your impression would be most correct." Grunting as he rolled out of the way of the incoming attack. Climbing up onto his feet his slate eyes locked onto the red haired knight. "I wonder if that impression is new or you had it when you decided we should dance this waltz." Came the lazily made comment.

Bringing his weapon up, at the same time he made his approach, he brought the weapon down toward the knight.

"Oh, it was an impression I've gotten since you walked up," said Celsus cheerfully, even as the spear came swishing through the air towards him, catching him across the shoulder. He stumbled sideways, hiding a gasp of pain, and dropped down to one knee, peering up at Benitoite.

"What can I say, I like dancing with death. Or maybe life."

"How would this be a dance with life?" He questioned with a raised brow. Even as he questioned the red haired knight he took another swing at him, this time a downward swing. "I would say this is a dance with death, although I've never killed a knight." The last part was more to himself than the other, an out loud musing.

"Tell me...why do people decide to fight those they know they cannot win against?" He may have gone after, or approached, those who could easily take him out. But he'd never really sought a fight with then, even if a fight had happened.

The spear caught him in the other shoulder this time, Celsus wincing as he stumbled backwards, still on his knees. One hand rose automatically to press against his now throbbing arm, Celsus crouching low to aim a kick at Benitoite's leg.

Yet he was still smiling.

"Because, General," he said, lips quirking upwards. "That is what life is all about, is it not? Pushing yourself to take chances even when that chance may be small."

"Even when to fail can mean death?" He questioned even from where he was bent and rubbing his leg. The kick to his leg had not been expected, nor appreciated. It hadn't knocked him down but he put distance between them. He had a long weapon so he could put distance between them, so he could avoid being attacked, and still manage to attack from the distance.

He'd be bruised from the kick, damn shoes the squire wore. "Life is about pushing yourself but not when it can end in death." That was more than taking a chance and risking injury. That was doing something where you could never recover from the mistake you'd made. He accepted the possibility of death but he wouldn't go and court it like this squire was.

Rubbing his leg further, his eyes still on the squire. At least when he got home he had something for bruises, he really didn't like looking like some patch work person of bruises and fair skin. Keeping the distance between them he used his spear as just that...a speak. He poked the bladed tip at the other.

Celsus frowned a little, though it was more of a plaintive pout than actual disappointment.

"Failing does not always equal death," he said, in an explanatory sort of tone. "And death does not always equal failure. The two are wholly unconnected, and to connect them would be rather unwise."

The frown turned into a slight smile, which turned into a wince as the end of the spear jabbed into his side. Celsus stumbled backwards and rubbed at his torso.

"I don't walk the lines purposefully," he said. "I don't dance at the edge of death and laugh at it. I'm cautious. But I also don't skirt around death or act as though it is an impossibility, because death, my General friend, is always a possibility, whether we like it or not."

"No, not always. But here it very well might." He spoke, confident and calm. No failing could mean many things and death could mean that one was just at the end of their life, or that they had given up and wanted death. But at times the two did go hand in hand, too often in some cases/situations.

"Indeed, it is always there and always looming. But I prefer not to go offering my hand in waltz to it. I will see the line but keep my distance from it, as best I can anyway." Being in a war he was close to that line all too often. You could say he was always close to it, always saw it, he could die any evening. And there were times he got too close. But generally he did try and keep his distance from it.

"Tonight though you may be too close to the line. Dancing with me could be dancing with death." He spoke whilst standing up straight and moving in to jab at the other again. "I have played death before; for others."

A grin flitted across Celsus's face.

"No," he said. "No, I won't die. I might be seriously injured this evening - a very real possibility, and the most likely outcome of our little tiff here."

He staggered backwards at the next spear hit, which jabbed into his shoulder rather painfully. Giving a little grunt, Celsus pushed himself back upright and pushed his hair away from his face, lifting his brows in amusement.

"Dance?"

Within a moment he had darted closer, their faces hardly an inch apart, fingers wrapping around the general's wrist.

"I'll dance with you, General, but I won't die for you."

His fingers tightened, and he yanked Benitoite forward, twisting around so that he could drive his knee into the other's stomach.

"And your sure I won't kill you? That's not a safe assumption to go and make..." Purring his words he tilted his head and flashed something of a smile in the others direction. "Killing really isn't all that hard."

Staring at the other as suddenly he had a face full of knight, he was quite surprised when his wrist was grabbed and he went to yank free. "Your not my type, I do apologi-" His words were cut off with a sharp exhale of air as everything that had been in his lungs rushed out seemingly all at once.

Wide eyed he bent double over the squire's knee. Already short he was quite little seeming now as he was bent in double. it was while he was bent over that he decided on his next course of action. Lifting one leg, just enough, he brought his heel down on the others shoe in the hopes of the other feeling it. He really didn't know what those ugly shoes were made of.

He shrugged, unperturbed.

"You can try, but I'm not willing to die tonight, so it won't be successful."

The grin that flitted across his face was almost playful, a dark sort of teasing in his eyes. "You're not my type either - as in, you're male. Though," Celsus added, still holding tight to his wrist as the General doubled over, gasping. "I do admit, you're quite lovely in your own way. You have a sort of elegance to you that's really quite refreshing."

Something - Benitoite's shoe, as it turned out - crushed down on his foot, and Celsus grunted in pain, staggering. He pushed away from the General and swiped his hair away from his face, stumbling back several steps until he was back on the ground, out of breath.

"That hurt," he said plaintively, almost in a pout. "Bloody hell."

How amusing this one was. Just because he didn't want to die meant he wouldn't. It was amusing and yet also unique. It wasn't cocky and arrogant, he really couldn't place a finger on just what it was really.

"I do apologize. I fear that I'm not fond of having people holding me against my will. I do hope you'll forgive me, but given my position there was little else I could do." Having straightened himself up, though one arm was neatly pressed against his abused midsection. "I do thank you for your compliment to my elegance. I do try." Even though he was still a teenager and rather prone to small bouts of immaturity.

"I do hope that my elegance doesn't make me attractive to you, despite being male. Because, it would be rather unfortunate for you that while I may be interested in males I am not interested in those who serve on your side of the war - nothing against you personally. It's just a matter of morals and loyalty...and a little bit of conflict in opinions and beliefs." He spoke as charming as ever, even as he smiled at the other. Standing and watched the other for a moment before rushing in to take a swing at the others face.

"Elegance is a rare quality, General," said Celsus. "Be thankful you have it."

It was certainly amusing fighting with this particular quarry. He found himself enjoying it, though perhaps that was not entirely a good thing, especially considering the amount of pain he was currently in.

A smile played at the corners of his lips.

"No," Celsus admitted. "I'm not attracted to you, nor the cause you serve. And it has really nothing to do with you being into men, as you say, since I'm relatively certain my brother bats for the same team you do. But even if I were, I don't think I would be able to look past that giant sticker that says 'NEGAVERSE AGENT' on your forehead."

Benitoite's swing caught him off guard, Celsus staggering backwards and hitting the tree he had been sitting in earlier. He slumped against the trunk of it, breathing deeply, his head spinning.

"My dear General, I do believe this battle is winding to an end."
