Hollowkit had gotten a bit careless in her adventure. With all the new sights and smells she'd forgotten to keep track of the entire patrol. Observing them now as SandStalker mentioned splitting up the group Hollowkit groaned, of all the bad luck, how was she supposed to stay hidden if they all separated? She'd be surrounded for sure and one of them was sure to see her. In fact, wasn't one of them missing already? She was sure there had been a white tom cat with the group when it left camp and she couldn't see him anymore. Her ears flattened to her head as she stalked closer to the rest of the patrol.

A sharp snap underneath her paws caused the young kit to jump back in fear and then freeze. She'd caused enough noise to draw attention for sure and as she looked around she saw a pair of eyes staring her down from a thicket of briar bushes. With her ears pinned back she crouched down assuming the same position she used when she knew a good scolding was about to ensue.

Her eyes stayed locked on the cat in the briar bushes. She wasn't sure who it was but they smelled of Shadowclan so she didn't fear that she would be harmed, that at the very least, was one thing she could be grateful for as she waited to see just what the cat would do now that it was discovered she had followed the patrol out of camp.

Nightsong remained speechless for several moments longer, just observing the environment as well as her clanmates. There was nothing that she noticed that was different at all, although Icefang seemed to had caught scent of something possibly hidden away. She watched him very carefully as he stalked slightly away, paying close attention to whatever he seemed to have noticed. She wasn't sure about what was it she should do, so for the time being she stuck very close by to the main patrol as well as kept her ears and eyes highly trained on her pale clanmate.

"No, I don't have any such issue with that, Sandstalker," she meowed. It wasn't supposed to matter to her, anyway. Sandstalker had assumed direct control over the patrol in the first place, so it was up to her to tell her what she wished for her to do. Like all of the other cats on the patrol, she was merely an extension of Sandstalker's being, so whatever it was she wished for her to do as the patrol leader would be exactly what she would do.

Icefang's eyes locked onto another pair in the bushes. These, however were not the beady glinting orbs of prey. Nor were they those of an enemy, as the brush smelled of clanmates. He blinked and poked his nose in more aggressively. "What are you doing here, kit?" he asked gruffly.

Pushing his way into the brush, he tried to tell which kit it was. She smelled female, that much he knew, but he had not noticed what she was called when she was named by her mother.
"I should drag you right back to the camp, little one. Tell me, how did you come so far?" he questioned her, disapproval mixed with subtle praise in his purr.

Hollowkit's whole body quivered with a strange mix of anticipation and fear. She knew that she wouldn't be harmed but that didn't mean that she wouldn't be in trouble, and lots of it. She tried to do her best innocent kitten face, wide eyes and all, but she wasn't sure if she was pulling it off as well as her sister, Petalkit, could. Icefang spoke to her and she knew that she had no choice but to answer him, staying quiet when being asked questions was a sure way to irritate the cat and she didn't need to give him any more of a reason to be upset with her.

She perked up her ears and sat up straight, her chin tilted up just a little higher as she looked at the white cat and finally she answered him. "I came to help the patrol. I heard SandStalker when she was calling for volunteers and decided that since I wasn't sleeping, I should come too, and catch the biggest, juiciest prey there is to take back to camp." There, now he knew why she'd come but she wasn't sure how to answer the next question. How had she gotten here? How did he think she'd gotten here? Flown? She was a cat, not a bird. She tipped her head to the side for a moment before answering his second question. "I walked." Leave it to Hollowkit to be blunt as was possible for a kit.

"Please don't take me back to camp. I want to help." Her request was spoken in a voice that was both assertive and pleading at the same time. Hollowkit hoped that Starclan was with her today and that Icefang would agree not to send her back to camp. She could help, she was sure of it, she just had to be given a chance.

The kit looked at him with big, pleading eyes. Her suggestion that she was trying to help the clan was admirable, but foolish. He didn't want her to get hurt just because they were a bit hungry.

He opened his mouth to tell her that he was going to bring her back to camp when she insisted again that she only wanted to help. Icefang sighed, knowing that feeling in his own paws. The need to help out the clan, no matter how hard it was.
"I'll have you know, that it's only because you're trying so hard to help everyone else that I'm not dragging you back to camp by the scruff of your neck," Icefang grumbled. It wasn't a distinct yes, but more of an allowance for her to help.

"I suppose that you haven't learned how to hunt yet, though," he mused, sitting back on his haunches. That would make it difficult. Perhaps she could be a spotter, giving him two more eyes to spot the elusive prey.

Hollowkit was just about ready to resign herself to the inevitable fate of being drug back into camp and plopped into the nursery for a scolding but before she could finish giving up her hope Icefang spoke. Her ears twitched and she tilted her head slightly. Had she heard him correctly? He wasn't going to drag her back to camp? Silently the little kit thanked Starclan for her luck. "Thank you! Thank you!" she mewed and her eyes lit up, she rose from her crouched position and her tail and whiskers twitched with excitement.

Hollowkit frowned though when he commented on her experience level. True, she hadn't ever really gone on a hunt, but she was good at hunting her siblings, and leaves, and even the bugs that dared to trespass in camp. Didn't that give her some experience? "I do know how to hunt... sort of. I can catch my siblings... and bugs. Momma says I'm a natural." Hollowkit dropped into a hunter's crouch just to show him she knew what she was doing. She kept her tail low but not quite brushing the ground and her ears were pricked forward as she stared intently at his paws. Without much else for warning she pounced, placing one of her paws atop of his and then she backed up and looked at him for evaluation of her technique.

"Well catching siblings is better than catching colds, or so my mother used to tell me" Icefang replied, a small smile parting his lips. When she crouched, his eyes watched her form carefully. A tail a bit too low, tensing behind her shoulders, all easily correctable. Yes, she might have been young, but all apprentices started young. Why not give her some instruction before she moved up to apprenticehood?

He chuckled when she grabbed his paw and nodded approvingly.
"Yes, I would have to agree with your momma. You will certainly be a great asset to this hunt, madame kit." A thought crossed his mind and he tilted his head to examine the kit in front of him. "What is your name, little one?"

A melodic mewling giggle escaped the kit at his words. "Anything is better than a cold! Even a toad!" She could feel the weight of his eyes on her as she showed off her kittenhood hunting prowess. It felt as though there were fleas in her pelt as she waited anxiously to hear his remarks. Already she seemed like an apprentice, but then, she was only waiting for their leader to hold the meeting for herself and her siblings to make her apprenticeship official. Could getting an early start really get her into that much trouble? She didn't think so, at least, she hoped not.

"Thank you! I will do my very best for the clan." she mewed happily when he praised her on her skills. After a few more moments he questioned her and she answered as she did with her siblings, not pausing to think that she was no longer in the nursery. "HollowSong" As soon as the words left her mouth she realized her mistake and her ears laid flat and she smiled sheepishly. "Er... what I meant to say... my name is Hollowkit." She looked down at her paws, clearly embarrassed about her slip up. She needed to pay more attention to her words if she was ever going to make it as a real apprentice.
