"Yeah..." Otto lied. He didn't know how to judge how far a quarter mile was, but all he had to do was swim, right? Go.And she was gone.  Otto didn't even make an effort to race. He swam idly at his own pace.

She pulled up, gasping for air, then turned and looked at him... way... back... there...
"YOU CAN DO IT OTTO!! COME ON!!" she bellowed, waving her arms in the air. "Come on!" This was no longer a race, this was a cheerleading session. In water.
Izy was headdesking in the back of her mind.

Ugh.. all that cheerleading was pissing him off. He wasn't some underdog needing support from a damn cheerleader! The boy huffed indignantly, took a deep breath, and dove under the water.
There. Now he could swim at his own pace without listening to anything except the numb sound of the sea. He could hold his breath for a while, right?
Crap. No he couldn't.
Otto had to suface only 6 second in. Crap. He'd have to listen to her after all. Maybe he wasn't such a strong swimmer after all.

"I brought lunch!" she called. "Enough for both of us!" she added--motivational speaking, or bribery? Your choice! She was giving it her all!! And when you did that, things always worked out, she just KNEW it!
Izy was wondering if he could borrow a golem just to get her into therapy.

Both of them? How did she even know he was going to be there? "Don't lie! Admit yer just a pig and packed extra!" He huffed from far away, still swimming.
Why did he think a race was a good idea?

"I brought enough for dinner, too," she told him. "But that works for two lunches! And I brought a lot of juice boxes! You can have some!" Some? She was giving away juice boxes? What was WRONG WITH HER?? Not that she noticed this. It would make Otto happy! He would be cute with a smile!

There was a strange sound of muttering in some language she didn't understand in the back of her mind. Syd ignored it.

Otto groaned, swimming slower and slower. "I'm getting tired! This is dumb!" He whined.

"Oh, are you getting tired?" she asked. "Should we go eat lunch now? It'll be good!" she said, swimming for him. "Do you need help getting back to the beach? I can help!"
Izy muttered darkly.
She stopped, looking highly confused at that statement Otto couldn't hear.

"I don't need help.." He grumbled, swimming toward the shore. He'd learn from this if nothing else. Don't swim too far out. Apparently despite all his training, his stamina in the water was lacking.
He paused as Syd seemed to stop, though he really wanted to get to shire soon, his legs getting sore from treading water. "What're ya spacin' out for?"

"I think..." she said slowly, a strange expression on her face, "that Izy seems to think I'm acting strangely. But... I don't feel strange! I'm sure it'll be fine," she said, breaking into a smile as she started for shore. "I mean, it's a beautiful day, and we're in this beautiful place, and I've even got friends here with me!"
She absolutely counted Izy as a friend. Her BEST friend. Her best best BESSSST friend! And Otto was right up there because he was there with her, and they had a secret--and secrets meant that they were super close friends! Because you didn't have secrets with people that weren't super close friends!
Ah, the circular logic.

"I did!" she said, her eyes widening in surprise. "Wow--oh, you didn't send it, did you? It's so beautiful, and it smells just as pretty as--as a rose! Oh, well, of course it does," she admitted as she waded onto shore. "I've been in such a good mood ever since I got it--I mean, it was a bit difficult catching those minipets, but I managed, and I even got three of them! And--"

His eyes nearly rolled back into his head as she jabbered on and on, almost tempted to let himself drown. However, he reached the shore and began to walk his way out of the water. "Those roses are bad news, aight? They make you think and do weird s**t. You should get rid of it."

She blinked. "But... I haven't noticed it making me do anything," she said. "I mean, its just a rose. It's not like it has runes on it--" that she knew of. Seriously, she hadn't even thought to check. "Or this is Beauty and the Beast or something, I mean, I'm definitely not running around singing songs at random, or anything."
