Akumu let out a yowl of success as he saw the bar break and the two hales slide into the cage itself, leaving a much wider gap. His bobbed tail flicked as he looked between the space and Kivuli. without her wings, she could have easily squeezed through, but with one bent at a funny angle like it was... his ears flattened in concern. "You should try to angle-" He was starting to say when CRACK! While they had been distracted, the old man had managed to seize his cane and, gritting through his injury, swung it hard towards Akumu. "CURSE YOU!" He spat, filled with anger and bile. However, in his wild swing and poor angle... it hit one of the remaining bars, cracking it nearly in half. Akumu dodged after the fact, hissing and spitting at him, and trying to distact him for Kivuli to escape. "You vile old man!" He spat, trying to dodge a return swing of the cane, but this time it caught him in the stomach, laying him flat and knocking the air from him.

Kivulu winced as the cane swung at Akumu, she was relieved when it hit the cage instead. she watched as it broke a large piece off. She could get though it now, wait what was it that Akumu had been saying? Something about angles. She push her head though the gap before rolling on to her good wing and squirming out side ways, the gap was large enough for her to roll over in and the slats where taller than the hole was wide. She pushed herfelf forward a bit before using her claws to pull herself along. She hoped that he could distracted the man long enough for her to get out and the cane wouldn't hit her. Pulling her self free she stood up and turned to Akumu. "Come on lets go!" She waited a second to make sure that he would be able to follow before starting to run off away from the house. Her shadows dimmed in the bright sun light, she hoped there would be no need of them, it was doubt full that they would be any use even if they made it to the shade.

Akumu tried to yowl, but instead he struggled to take a breath, it felt like there was a vice around his waist. He struggled to get back to his feet. He could breathe later! He stumbled a few times as the man narrowed his eyes and swung the cane again. This time, it caught Akumu on his rear, but despite the blossom of pain, it sent him skidding in the right direction: away from the old man. He didn't look back - not at the screaching or obscenities that the man spewed. Not until he was over the rock fence - making sure that Kivuli was with him. "This way!" He hissed petulently, still smarting from the cane swats. He knew these allies, and set off, trying not to limp, to show Kivuli the way along the ground. Her wing looked injured.

Kivuli frowned as she watched Akumu, it looked like he was injured. The idea that he was hurt made her worry and she felt, she didn't know what she felt, concern? guilt? Was that it guilt? He had only gotten hurt because he came after her, she still didn't know why he had but she was grateful. She lept over the fence and hurried after him, once she was closer she called out to him. "Are you all right Akumu?" She tried to stay as close to him as she could while they where darting threw the alleyways. she didn't know know the town having spent most of her time in the forest she tended to avoid the town and she hadn't spent much time gathering the lay out of the town when she was flying to the man's house. Her claw clicked against the ground as they ran, she had forgotten to sheath them. The impact of her legs hitting the ground sent mini shock wave up to her shoulder that jarred her wing. She let out a pained hiss as they took a sharp turn.

Akumu was furious with himself - the revence plot had managed to get them both injured. At least the old man didn't seem to have escaped unscathed either... but Kivuli had done nothing other than help him, and she was injured for her charity. He slowed down a little as they made it away from the man's house. He doub't he was well enough to pursue them, but they couldn't rest yet. Now, stealth would aid them more. "I... know the way back to the woods," Akumu said slowly, changing his darting to a slow padding, keeping close to walls and dark shadows, knowing that they would aide them both. He winced as he looked back at her and her obvious signs of pain. He would apologize soon.... He picked his way under low-hanging awnings, through narrow alleys and skirting the busy streets now that it was daytime. At one point, a small child pointed at them, tugging on his mother's sleeve, but by the time the wooman looked, the pair was gone. Finally, the city faded behind them and they were back to the woods, and Akumu flopped down, exhausted and feeling- now that the adrenaline had worn off - the ache of his stomach and hindquarters.

Kivuli was glad as they slowed down, her wing stomped aching as they slid into the shadows. She was relived as they continued to slink along in the safety of the shadow, their cool darkness bringing her comfort. She frowned as he seemed to sidestep her question, or had he simply not heard? "All right, I'll stick close." She stayed close to him keeping as far away from the people as she could. Seeing the child point at them she let out an angered hiss as they passed. Kivuli relaxed once the city started to fade, it would be a long time before she ever ventured back. Seeing Akumu flop down on the forest floor, she laid down next to him. "Are you all right? It seems like you're in pain." She shifted her her wing slightly wincing, she wasn't sure if it would be better to have it folded up against her or spread out. The leaves rustled gently in the wind. She laid her head down on her paws and listed for a moment before turning her gaze to Akumu. "So why did you come back?"

Akumu hadn't wanted to admit how stiff he felt. And the gradual slowing and eventual stopping now revealed to him just how much he ached. He winced, visibly, mentally scolding himself a moment later for showing his pain. It was a sign of weakness, after all. But... maybe he deserved it, for getting his friend - his first REAL friend hurt as well. "I'll live," He said reluctantly. "I think you got the worst of it anyway," he frowned, trying to redirect the attention off of himself and gesturing with a nod to her wing, which wasn't folding at her side like it's twin. Slowly, stiffly, he lay down as well, extended his back legs behind him so he didn't put much pressure on his rear. "It was my fault he caught you," He rumbled, staring at his paws. "It was my idea to go there. I..." It was hard to say, "I'm sorry. You didn't even know the man, and you went there to help me. I owed it to you to get you out."

Kivuli watch him curiously frowning a bit as she saw him wince."Me?" She scoffed "You seem to be in worse shape than me, it seems like you were having a hard time moving, The only problem I'm going to have is flying."' "I knew the risk involved when I agreed to help you." She laid down shifting her wing so that it was spread out all the way. She tried to ignore the pain and not show how much it hurt. "You felt you owed me? How odd" she mused allowed. "I've run into many groups in these woods, and very few stay together after I show up." She flicked her tail as watched him for a moment before continuing. "I've seen them leave behind people the sound close to and other trip their companions so that they can save them selves. As such I expected no help and you certainly didn't owe me any thing like I said before I knew the risks." "Thank you though, your help is very much appreciated" She looked at Akumu, they hadn't even know each other for two days and all ready she felt that she could trust him, he had come back and that was something.

"I'm fine," Akumu said defensively. He'd be fine. He'd been through worse... not... much, but still. "Just bruised. I may not be able to hunt well for a few days, but I'll live." His face broke into a grin, "'sides, I'm sure that the old man got it worse than me. He took quite a spill!" He listened to her account with his ears canted forward before finally responding, "Well. I'm not a coward like them. I've got few enough friends that I know better than to abandon one of the few that I do have." "... you're welcome." He finally said, looking at her. "You gonna be OK? Maybe... we should stick together for a while. Yaknow... just to watch out for each other while we're hurt."

Kivuli nodded her agreement when he got defensive. "You must get into a lot of fights and such if you've been hurt like this before." She grind with Akumu as she though back to the old man sprawled on the ground falling to get up. She laughed darkly before responding "Indeed he did, I bet he couldn't even pick him self off the ground after that or at least not for a while. It should teach him not to mess with us." She listened to him, indeed he was not a coward, friends? Had he just called her a friend? He did say he wasn't foolish enough to abandon his friends and he cam back for her. She smiled to her self so this was what it's like to have a friend huh? We so long as they where like Akumu she didn't think she'd mind having friends. "I'll be fine, I just have to get used to distribution my weight differently for a little while to keep balance." She listened to him suggesting that they stay together for a while and paused for a moment to think. "That seems ....reasonable, yes sticking together sounds like a good plan."

Akumu rolled his shoulders. As a stray, he had seen his share of scrapes and close calls. Especially not having any one else he had trusted... not befoe then at least. He couldn't help but smile as well as he thought of the man flailing around on the ground like a babe. "He will not soon forget his mistake." He purred, licking his front foot. The pur grew louder as she agreed to stay. The thought pleased him... him and her - a true creature of the night... he didn't fear Kivuli... he was awed by her. And he owed her. Perhaps... it would even be mutually beneficial... He let his eyes slide closed, ehaustion coming up to claim him. Having an ally... a friend... it was something new. ((That could be a wrap if you like? smile ))
