"Fjotli. That's a very pretty name." Carmintine said in a sort of quiet, confidential voice, before they'd reached the rest of the group. He was a little sad to leave the tall grass, but it was nice to be able to see now, and he stepped up to meet Kedehern, delicately pressing his nose to the yearling's. Despite his size, he did not seem to be daunted by the group, or the fact that just about everyone was older than he was. Kedehern commanded his attention now; he could feel the energy coming off of the brown buck in waves, and after their short greeting he gazed up, smiling a little himself.

"Kedehern. Your eyes reminds me of the lights in the forest at night. His, too." he said, turning to look at Athos. Why did they glow in such a way? He knew that his did not, and it made him jealous, almost, because the lights that glowed in the darkest parts of the forest at night were very beautiful. Sometimes it was as if the night sky and the forest fused into one, enveloped in inky black and simultaneously permeated with brilliant points of light.

Shaking himself from his thoughts, he glanced about their group again, before introducing himself. "My name is Carmintine. Hello, everyone." He made sure to try to address both Kedehern and Athos. The others were still a bit too far away.

He found himself standing where he usually stood, a careful distance from most of the action, absorbing it all and learning. He didn't let things slip past his watch and was more than happy to take it all in, though only those who knew him might have known from the way he stood, stone still and emotionless. Being socially functional and learning seemed two very different aspects of life.

The new additions to the group drew his attention, and briefly, his looked to every one, remembering their looks and the way they walked and how they announced themselves to the growing crowd. The leaping fawn, the orange-eyed doe, and when the one wearing the brightly patterned harness approached, he pulled his gaze away from the group to answer.

"Hello," he seemed to agree, pleased to be invited into the socializing. Otherwise, he might have simply stood all the day. Careo was happy enough to do that too, but much and more could be learned from conversation. If nothing else, it could teach him how to be a better conversationalist. The yearling was well aware that his social skills were not as sharply honed as they could be.

"What is your name?" He decided to ask, though for a brief moment, he wondered if he might follow her suit and call her something that resembled her, as she had done him.

Malaki was grazing a distance away, he had seen the other deer. Being one to wait instead of approach, he decided to just watch them all, ears perked up and focused on the words spoken by the other deer. He wasn't flighty or shy, no. Malaki just liked 'deer watching', seeing his kin interact and form relationships.

He had a hard time making friends because he was quiet with strangers and groups of strangers made him extremely nervous.

A respectful nod was given to the adult doe in response, his hooves stepping forward again to advance towards the now intermingling trio. He stood behind Kedehern, watching the two younglings interact with interest... how precious~ he smiled lightly, tail twitching for a brief moment to show his contentment on the matter. Active youths were such a delight to see. With introductions being tossed around, it only seemed appropriate that he too gave his own name to the others that'd just joined them.

"It is a pleasure to meet all of you. I am Athos." he started, glancing to the doe with her own two cents tossed in. This caused his gaze to drift off and onto the others that were littering the meadow, "Yes.. quite interesting~" he murmured, as if merely speaking aloud. It was strange that none of these other deer were recognizable, when he came here all the time.. Ears twitching upon Carmintine's own observation, keyed on the glowing eyes a few of them held, he chuckled quietly, "Well thank you, little one. Your eyes are rather similar to that of amber, crystallized within a tree~"

“It really is something!” Kedehern readily agreed with Fjotli. “It’s great!” Nobody could ever say the yearling lacked enthusiasm.

As if the gentle touch of their noses gave him permission, Kedehern took the liberty of now rubbing his nose affectionately against the fawn’s ears. “My eyes?” He blinked, remembering the few times he had gazed into a still pool to see his reflection. “Well thanks Carmintine.” His head lifted proudly, glad for the compliment.

He glanced about, checking on the other deer outside of their little group. Two near the trees seemed to be having a conversation… oh, and there was a brown buck not too far off, just watching. Well, he’d come over when he was ready.

Koke nodded to the yearling in greeting, focusing her gaze on the buck to-be before her and trying to ignore the more rambunctious group nearby. She pondered answering his question. Was it the custom to give up one's true name so easily to a stranger upon first meeting? It might be, but it had been long since Koke had exchanged a few words with another guardian, and as such, she decided to ignore this unspoken name rule.

"I'm Cottonsedge." The lie came easily to her lips as her favorite meal spontaneously became her new shadow-name. This particular doe believed that your true name was something to cherish. You only gave out your true name to those you trusted. A shadow-name, on the other hand, was a name to hide behind for politeness sake, a mask that could be associated with the user when needed or dropped once tainted. She had two already, now she had three. Koke had once pondered whether she might just be a habitual liar, but in the end, she was unable to find an answer to her own thoughts.

She smiled daintily to the buck to-be and gestured with her head to the gathering group, "Do you know any of them, one of ice? Or are you new to this -" She glanced around quickly, as if suddenly aware that she had ventured out of the tree's shelter, and had less places to hide. She noted the brown buck nearby in her scan."- field as well?" She didn't ask his name, nor would she, unless he offered it himself.

Malaki twitched his ears as he was regarded and took a step out of the brush toward the adorned deer, but went no further. His name meant wind, and wind could be strange in its ways. But he turned his head away briefly as if looking for something. He looked back at 'Cottonsedge' and gave the faintest nod. Malaki dipped his head and nipped at one of the leaves of the bush in an attempt to look occupied.

Cottonsedge. The yearling gave a barely perceptible nod. He thought maybe there was something not quite right about it, though he didn't know what and he could tell well enough that she meant no harm. It was not his place to begrudge her the name, and it was a fine one in any case. It would more than serve for their purposes here today.

Momentarily, his bright eyes shifted, and he saw the brown buck standing nearby. An ear flicked, though Careo did nothing else. He was not one to invite others into the fray, just as he was not one to enter it himself. The world, for the most part, had to come to him; otherwise, he was happy enough to sit and watch as others passed him by.

He shook his head when he heard Cottensedge's question, slowly drawing his gaze away from the brown buck and back to the doe. He couldn't quite help but study the ornate harness on her back. It was quite a pretty contraption, and he wondered briefly if he might not appreciate one himself. Then again, all facets of the human world seemed to interest the yearling. It didn't have to be specific to the harness.

"No, I do not," he admitted. His gaze flitted back to the group. It was getting to be quite the crowd now. "Though... I do not think I am entirely new to this place. It feels familiar, somehow. Quite familiar."

Koke halted, and backtracked in her scan to look more closely at the brown buck. She was sure she had seen him nod at her, but on second glance he seemed preoccupied grazing. That was annoying. She was definitely not a vain doe, probably one of the farthest from it, so she wasn't wondering why he ignored her. She was more miffed that she wasn't positive whether he had acknowledged her or not. If he did, she looked the a** for ignoring him, but on the other hand, she felt foolish walking over and greeting him if he didn't want the company.

She drew her gaze back to the one of ice, deciding to leave that whole other vein of thought alone for now. "Neither do I... know them that is. Nor do I know you, nor do I know this place." She sighed lightly "Oh, what it is to be lost and alone in the world." She grinned at him then, blue eyes glittering mischievously. "Luckily I'm not one to be afraid...and what about you, one of ice? Are you one who leads or one who follows?" With that remark she pranced away, a skip in every step, headed towards the larger group.

After she had gone a few paces away, she stopped and looked over her shoulder at the yearling, "Coming, one of ice?" She didn't wait for his answer, instead raising her voice and focusing her blue eyes on the brown buck farther off, "and you leaf treader? Will you join me or hide amongst the leaves?"

Now she paused, waiting to see their reactions before proceeding; however, her whole body was poised to cavort over to the larger group.

Malaki stepped out from his protective place and approached the grey furred doe, nodding to her. "You may call me Ilex," he replied as he approached. "And I believe I've been here before. Maybe I've always been here."

If the doe wasn't going to trust them with her real name, he saw no reason to not do the same, and he looked Cottonsedge in the eye as he gave them his 'name'. Malaki stepped right up to the doe's side.

He looked at her, and he could see the mischief dancing in her eyes then. Though Careo himself was not one for mischief, and conceded with a small incline of his head - perhaps the closest the young deer ever really came to smiling - and said, "But are we alone? Lost, we may be, but at the very least, we must all be lost together." And here they were, of course, possibly lost in these vast and endless woods but somehow, quite inexplicably, all together.

But before he could manage any more, she had skipped away toward the larger group. The pale yearling stood for another moment, watching again, pondering, wondering... and then things seemed to fall in place and he seemed to decide something, and almost out of nowhere, he moved to follow. He did not have the same dance in his step, nor did he hurry to catch up, but he moved with a certain grace that brought him to her soon enough.

When he did, he gave another small incline of his head, and he said this time, "I neither lead nor follow, Cottonsedge. I simply... observe." Though, of course, sometimes observing took him places he hadn't thought to go. He moved wherever his observations dictated.

His attention was drawn by the brown buck when he approached, and characteristically, the yearling fell silent and said nothing as he noted the buck's walk and the sway of his antlers as he divulged his name. The yearling nodded. He had all but decided that he didn't mind being addressed as "one of ice," and allowed the silence to continue as he waited for more.

Koke didn't seemed perturbed by the sudden nearness of the brown buck as he strode up next to her, nor did she make any move to acknowledge his name. She just stared with big blue doe eyes at him for a moment, before twitching an ear and turning her head to survey their final destination.

She also didn't make any mention of either of the male's statements; not Malaki's thoughts on being in this space, nor Careo's words on being alone together or his disposition to observe, though she had easily heard both of them. Koke's flighty nature had already pushed her thought process past the point of the previous conversation on to more interesting things. Such as the three other strangers just waiting for her to meet them.

And now that both yearling and buck had reached her, it was time to move once again. She trusted they would follow, as they had done so previously, and it would be foolish for them to come so far without moving forward once more. Whether they would follow in order to observe new experiences, or to exchange remarks, as Koke was inclined to do, was of little concern to the grey doe.

"One of ice." She nodded to the buck-to-be. "Leaf-treader." She repeated the gesture to the brown buck.

"Let us see what this day holds, shall we?"

With that, she bounded into action. Like a tightly bound spring finally released, she was off. Fluid grace as she leapt through the tall grass, it parting before her. Her destination wasn't too far off, and she neared the larger group in only a couple dozen bounds. She slowed to a walk as she approached, and called out in her musical tone "Greetings fieldings!" She could already see the young taupe buck, the wispy grey doe and the striped buck, but as of yet, she was not aware of their younger companion.

"Yes, your eyes." He murmured softly, his ears giving a ticklish flicker as the older deer nuzzled against them. Kedehern's nose was soft and damp, and it felt funny, in a good way. He shook his head after a moment, and then bumped it against one of the buck's forelegs in an equally affectionate manner, intrigued by the odd kinship he felt with all of the strangers he'd just met. He didn't know any of them in the least, but it felt good to be in their presence. It felt...safe. His whole body seemed to quiver for a moment before he hopped away from Kedehern, bouncing the short distance to Athos with almost-stumbling fawn steps.

"Yes. How do they get that way? Do you remember?" he asked as he pressed his nose to the buck's foreleg, sniffing him hesitantly, but feeling brave all the same. He was much larger, but Carmintine could not sense a drop of malice in him. Like Kedehern, he felt safe, too, and the fawn wanted to see him up close. The youngster wasn't at all certain about his elder's comment about amber in trees, but it was something he would learn, he supposed. He was too bashful to ask, especially since it sounded like a compliment.

He was about to ask another question, when the great rustle of Cottonsedge's movements and approach caught his ear, startling him slightly. He stumbled between Athos' legs, peering out cautiously when the doe slowed down, and greeted them all. "Hello." he called back, eyeing her curiously. What on earth was wrapped around her body?
