He huffed and puffed and then. “I do not flirt. I only clarified.” Which was his form of flirting apparently. “I don’t plan to make a habit out of flirting with my patients. Not now, not ever. Once healed I have no qualms, but until then I won’t get involved. Things get.. messy. In less than enjoyable ways.”
Was that experience talking? Maybe. Either way the talk of wolves had Somnium puffing up just like Oberon, getting up to go look out a window like he was watching for something. Something that Marco could tell was just a lot of posturing. “Tales and myths. One is true, so might the other be. A rather frightening notion if so. I hardly think myself a fighter of any sorts. I tend to avoid battlefields. Messy, poorly equip, and once you heal a man he runs off to get injured again. A pointless business, fighting.”
Her laugh just made him fume silently at her. He did not enjoy being mocked. Or feeling like he was being given backhanded compliments. “I do my work. Now-“ He finished up the herbs on honey mixture a thick gold and green sticky paste. It was a small amount in the bowl, but he set it her direction. Then he poured himself some broth, blowing on his cup.
“It’s best to take the honey and herbs then get some broth. You can do it the other way around, but the after taste is not always palatable as time wears on.”

"Clarification. Of course," her tone made it clear that she did not believe a word of it, but she did not press the matter. As much as it bolstered her spirits to rile the good doctor, she was not certain how she felt about flirting with him. She rather preferred not to flirt with anyone, in fact, so that alone should be deterrent enough. She very much suspected that pestering him on this matter would qualify as flirtation.
Rajani observed the guardians. "They do seem to rather like the idea, despite how we may feel." She had the rather uneasy feeling that that were made for it, and why else would they be brought back if not to fulfill their purpose?
When the bowl was set before her, she eyed it suspiciously. Did he really expect her to eat that? Oberon snorted, giving the distinct impression that he was telling her not to act like a baby. Coming from him, that was downright insulting. She glared at him and choked down the substance. The flavor was not completely terrible, but the texture was quite unpleasant. Her lip curled in distaste, only smoothing when the broth rid her of the last bits of medicine that tried to cling to her throat.

He glared at her, eyes narrowing. She was getting him riled, and Somnium was more amused than seeming ready to stop him. It was only when he looked at the deer that realized why and rubbed the bridge of his nose. Somnium, ever thinking he knew what was best. The lady was just as stubborn as him, maybe she would break Marco down a bit. Marco just needed to ignore the little jabs. Talk of something else. Like their four legged companions.
“Somnium likes any attention. Good mostly, but he’ll take the bad with it. He’s a bit of an attention whore if you will.” The guardian looked over, stomping a hoof down as if to deny it. “He stomps his hoof, showing that he is offended at the idea that he might prance around much to the delight of many children and a few women was come across.” A frozen deer, Marco snorted. More stomping before the buck puffed up. “See, he’s one for attention, even if he’d not admit it outright. Dramatics.” A snort from Somnium, he went back to looking out the window.
Rajani’s face as she took the mixture had the thin line of a smile on Marco’s face. “Now just image how much worse it would have been without the honey, or, without broth to wash it down. Oddly? Children take it better than adults. My theory is because children put worse things in their mouths.” Still she took the medicine, and the doctor was slightly at ease. “It’ll be awhile before we see any effects, but it’s a start. Since I expect you plan to stay here for the night, I think I will need to do the same to check in the morning on you.” He looked around. “I can sleep further from the fire, let you keep a bit of privacy.”

"That sounds rather like someone else I know," she observed, smirking when Oberon grumbled in protest. "Except this one seems to think he's royalty." The guardian in question flattened his ears and turned his head away in a deliberate snub.
The gypsy preferred not to think about what that would have tasted like without the honey and broth. She doubted it would be pleasant. "Your theory sounds reasonable." Children always seemed to find the strangest possible things to attempt to consume. Many of those things were less than palatable, let alone safe. Not that Rajani made it a point to deal with children. It was just one of those things that was difficult not to notice.
Her eyes nearly sparkled with amusement at the last. It really was too much to resist, promises not to flirt or no. It seemed that all the men she met lately were worried about propriety. "Afraid I'm going to ravish you in your sleep? It hardly seems worth the trouble. Don't be shy, doctor. I'm sure Somnium will protect you."

The snubbing from Oberon got a laugh out of Marco. “Well, not the worst. Some royalty, or nobles at least have manners and pay their doctors on time. Other? Might as well be pig farmers. No, I take that back, that is insulting to both the pigs and the farmers. Even if our legendary companions act prissy, they are loyal. No matter what happens, I’ve never seen Somnium stray far from me, and he tends to fret if we get separated. I had to go into a mansion once and naturally they wouldn’t let him in. He was a foal at the time, but still, he was an animal to them. But a few hours later, he’d apparently snuck his way in from the kitchens in order to find me. My blessing was the fact the nobleman’s daughter was quite smitten with a baby deer in her bedroom.” Somnium puffed, recalling the memory. Of a little girl’s cough followed by a laughter. It was a happier memory.
At the joke about ravishment, Marco blushed a bit, waving his hand. “Like I said, I don’t get into relations with my patients. After? Hard to say. Maybe you only want to ravish me in order to get out of paying, or, to make off with what coin I have.” That might have happened once when he was younger. “But knowing him, he’d think it amusing rather than something I need to be protected from.” The guardian gave him a sly look. “….God damn it.” He went to nurse his own broth.

"I suppose I can give him that much credit," she acceded. "If nothing else, he is jealous enough to seem loyal." At this teasing slight, delivered in a very believable tone, Oberon whipped around and stamped his hoof so vehemently that it was only by a minor miracle that the floor remained intact. Rajani held up a placating hand.
"To be fair, he always chooses me over any other, so I suppose that's loyalty enough."
Rajani fixed the doctor with a lofty look, or at least as lofty as could be reasonably expected considering her present health. "You assume too much," she reprimanded him. "I was airing your fears, not stating my desires. I am hardly overcome by the urge to ravish you." She took a long sip of broth to sooth her throat.
"And if I weren't so used to it, I would be insulted by your assumption that I might be after your purse. Not every gypsy is a thief. " Never mind that she did occasionally commit a burglary. That was not the point. Besides, she could not even recall the last time she had stolen anything. Oberon really was having a bad influence on her. At this rate, she was going to lose all her skills.

Marco snorted. "Males get jealous easily enough. It's our nature. Loyalty is just a fancy way of saying we don't want to share. Boys get jealous, men become loyal. When they're not? Well then they're just fools." He shrugged, waving it off.
Getting up to pull off the bed roll from Somnium, the deer shuffled, as if to say, 'excuse me, I am watching things here'. The doctor remained unimpressed. Taking said bed roll off to the side, he began to lay it out.
"Pity. I think myself rather desirable. But no, it was more... a thing. A thing women in general try to do if they can. Some men too. I don't mind bartering but really. I'm a doctor, not some lord." He was the son of one, but that hardly did anything for him.
"Either way, it's a moot point. We both will need out sleep. In the morning I'll check your well being and if all is well, we'll part ways." He got onto his side, Somnium going next to him, laying down. "You can pay me in the morning." He waved his hand in the air, as if it was trivial."

"Is that so?" she mused, though it was common knowledge amongst most females that men were generally jealous. At least she could appreciate his stance on the matter. "How insightful of you."
At his boast, the gypsy gave him a skeptical once-over that was clearly less than impressed. Never mind that he wasn't unattractive. He certainly did not have to know that.
When he mentioned sleep, however, Rajani realized that she was, in fact, quite tired. She laid out her own bedroll, amused that the doctor still insisted upon sleeping on the other side of the room.
"Fine," she agreed, slipping beneath the covers. "But if you catch cold, you can blame your misplaced propriety."

“I’m a doctor, sometimes they pay me for being insightful.” A snort. “Not often as I’d like really.” Rolling onto his side her gave his guardian a pat on the head like one would a dog. A snort from Somnium, the doctor amended his touch to a gentle rub under the chin.
“If I get a cold I’ll make sure my companion didn’t steal my blanket.” Somnium just curled himself up like he’d never done it. “Sleep well all the same Rajani.” Marco was at least determined to get some rest.

"The hardships of a doctor," she teased.
Despite his wounded pride, Oberon went over to Rajani and lay down against her back, sighing as she massaged his neck. Then, she pulled her blankets up higher and bid the doctor sweet dreams.
