Samawati was a little slow at times but even he could tell that Sarabi seemed to be enjoying this situation a lot more than he’d expected. He glanced at the brown lioness with a curious expression, mirroring her smile simply because he couldn’t help it. She looked so happy.
“I promise we’ll look for them.” He repeated in a firm and reassuring tone, aware that he wasn’t giving them any guarantees of success – his hopes on the matter were actually pretty low. The two cubs were pulling at his heartstrings now, both Ghubari’s quick acceptance of the adults and Si-Si’s more cautious approach. It was clear that the two cubs were very close and Samawati’s eyes fell softly on the pale cub who reminded him so much of Waridi, the twin he had lost in the war with the hyenas. The brother who’d always guided and protected Samawati up to the day he’d died leaving the golden lion with many conflicting feelings regarding the betrayal that he’d found out about only after Waridi’s death.
Samawati pushed those thoughts away, reserving them for a different time – it was usually at night that these thoughts plagued him though not quite as much since he’d been with Sarabi.
“You will never be alone again.” He told the cubs with unshakable certainty. That, at the very least, he could guarantee. He placed his paw, big and heavy, on the dark cub’s head but was quick to remove it, unsure of how the little one would take it. He then turned to the brown lioness before taking a few steps back. “Will you stay with them while I go get us something to eat?”
