Rue completely ignored the last of what Ferros was saying, her attention entirely focused now on her Hunter who had broken free from her arms to go into the arms of another. Her eyes narrowed and the air about her, if it were possible, seemed to have chilled several degrees with the hate she was seething from every ounce of her being. If Jordan forgave Ofelia then it was one foothold she had that would be taken, one crack that would be patched before it had a chance to split into a massive hole. "Ofelia." She spoke softly, her voice nearly a purr. In Jordan's arms Ofelia clearly tensed up, and she faintly started to shake. "I'll leave you now, seeing as you seem to think you can fix the damage you've done, and I'll see you back in your room. I'll be waiting." The last of her words had a massive bite to them as she turned and walked away, sending off Ferros by flipping him the bird as she left the trio.

When Ofelia returned, Rue would be waiting for her, and that thought kept the teen trembling as she turned to look at the departing figure. she didn't push herself from Jordan's embrace, instead just leaning on him a bit more. The teen didn't know what to do, know what to say, but she was glad to know that maybe whatever hate Jordan had about her was gone or at least to a level where he was willing to hug and talk to her again.

She had honestly missed him to the point of an ache, but it would never be something she'd admit. He still terrified her.

"Ah...um...yanno, Ah. . . got promoted." There was one thing she could talk about, that. "Jus' a lil' bit ago." She didn't want to talk about Rue, or what was waiting for her when she got back. She didn't want to talk about how sometimes she thought that needing that money for food and other things was a mistake.

Ferros pointedly ignored Rue as she left, instead moving up protectively behind the humans and crouching carefully so as not to tower over them. "She should not hurt you," he said, obviously distressed.

Jordan nodded and reluctantly let the subject of the tension between them drop. Making Ofelia talk about it when she so very clearly didn't want to might break the half-formed trust that she was offering. "Congratulations," he said instead, gently. "The new coat looks good."

He too had been promoted, but he still felt strange about it, the whole tangled mess of his capture and rescue inextricably twined into the whole thing. He wasn't certain he felt that he'd deserved it, that he'd earned it. Ferros's absence even while the dragon was right beside him made the complicated mess of emotions worse, and instead of trying to sort through it, Jordan held Ofelia quietly and let himself feel relieved that she wanted to heal the rift torn open in their friendship.

"Ah also....am cookin' an' bakin' . . . lots more. Maybe sometime Ah can make sommin'. . . that ya'd like ta eat. If...ya wanna." She sounded like a robot as she spoke but it was hard, she didn't know what to say. She wasn't her normally chatty self with Jordan now, she knew there was a rift that both of them had made that couldn't be patched no matter what. He would never trust her again, he would never like her again. At the most she could get his hugs, his sympathy, and that thought burned at her.

Maybe. . . maybe Rue was right? Maybe the damage had been done, it couldn't be fixed, and returning to that cold room to have her body beaten at the hands of her weapon was the only real truth left to her. Ferros said that Rue shouldn't do that to her, but would he hurt her too if he had the chance? No, probably not - he would just leave her behind. All of this was making her head hurt, her heart hurt. She was so happy that Jordan was talking to her again but at the same time. . . .

"An. . . thanks. Is yer...coat new too?" She wasn't looking at it, she was just....talking.

"I'd like that," Jordan said. "I'm not a very good cook, but maybe I could help. You could teach me, maybe." Her tone and the tight, unhappy way she held herself worried him. There was more going on than he knew, but he had only faint inklings of what.

"It is," he confirmed. "Just last week."

"I got larger also," Ferros said gravely, but with a note of pride in his voice.

Ofelia looked over at Ferros and her brow bent itself as she looked a mixture of nervous and in awe. He was indeed huge as a golem, so how big was he now as a weapon? It made her think of Rue, of the sharp and strong coldness of her fingers as she grabbed Ofelia's wrist. "Rue changed too, after the promotion. Her blades got sharper an' they started ta bend." There was a pause, and she hiccuped a little as though biting back some tears. It could be she was tasting her words, wondering what would be best to say.

The end result had her just speaking her mind.

". . . Ah'm...sorry ya had ta see all'a that. Ah'm also sorry Ah said Ah wasn' gonna lie ta ya anymore 'cause. . . Ah was never gonna tell ya 'bout that kinda stuff anymore." She pushed a bit from Jordan's arms, not roughly but enough to move back and give herself a little room. "If it would have made ya, or even now will make like me again, Ah'd have lied an' told ya that she an' Ah were best friends."

There was no lying now that he'd seen Rue, heard Rue. In a way it was a bit refreshing for someone else to see, someone other than Otto (who didn't give a damn) and Marcus, who was probably unaware and had issues of his own with his weapon.

Jordan stared at Ofelia, puzzled. "I don't know where you got the idea that I don't like you," he said. He let her pull free without a fuss. "I do like you. Doesn't mean I'm always going to agree with you or that everything will be butterflies and sunshine all the time." He stuck his hands into his pockets, looking tired and sad for a moment. "I'd rather hear the truth, even if it's not something I agree with or if it upsets me."

Ferros rumbled softly and looped one arm around his human's waist.

As Ofelia watched Ferros affectionately touch Jordan it wasn't hard to see the sadness and envy that crept over her features like a shadow. But just as swift as a shadow the expression was gone, replaced with her one of worry that seemed to be something of a confused staple around Jordan. If she was ever going to be able to relax around him again, or calm down around him again, it was hard to tell - either way for now she was just working on talking.

He didn't hate her, that was enough, even if he...really didn't mean it. The worm of paranoia that Rue had drove deep into her brain was wriggling itself all the while. "Rue said ya hated me, said it was my fault too. An' Ah kinda believed her, which is dumb fer me ta do but when it gets chanted in yer head over an' over it tends ta drill itself in." The teen moved her hand and tapped the side of her temple, looking at Jordan and Ferros as she did so. The motion was like she was hammering in a nail, one small strike at a time, and she kept her face somewhat neutral as she did that. "She says lots'a things, over an' over an' over an' Ah hear 'em in mah sleep."

"As fer tellin' ya the truth. . . . . . Ah. . . well, Ah. . . okay." She could make excuses, it was always so easy to make excuses. Everyone on the island lied to her, including herself and Rue into that number, so why should she promise not to lie to him? Was it because she valued him, hoped for a better chance? Or was it to redeem herself in an odd way?

Ofelia didn't know.

"I see." Jordan shook his head a little, frowning with concern. "It's hard to not believe things when she's telling you over and over, huh. I'm sorry." He was frankly worried over the way Rue was tormenting Ofie. Even if he put aside thoughts of Ofie's personal happiness and sanity, the game Rue was playing was a dangerous one. If the boo hag succeeded in breaking Ofie's mind and bringing her to a snapping point at the wrong moment, a breakdown could seriously endanger everyone around them. It wasn't implausible that Rue could get multiple people killed.

But Jordan had no idea how to go about addressing the problem, especially now that he'd heard Rue for himself. The weapon just didn't care. And he had problems of his own; how was he supposed to help others when he was half a wreck himself?

He shoved the train of thought away, sensing that it was headed for very dangerous territory. "Thank you for listening to me," he said quietly. "I promise I won't knowingly tell you something that isn't true."

Ofelia didn't like the Jordan apologized, it felt wrong. It was like someone else was trying to explain that Rue was. . . well, it was hard to understand. Whatever it was though, she didn't like the apology. So, to smooth it, she pressed on. "Ah've jus' gotta learn that Rue always lies. Or at least only likes her own opinions ta be best." That was true and she hoped that would move it along.

She managed to keep a grin on her face as she listened out, wondering if Rue was nearby. The weapon golem had left, sure, but to where? It was a pain not having her in her head, it meant for paranoia an sudden sneak attacks. That, that was horrible. A sneak attack would be really horrible.

Now she was more paranoid about that. Thankfully Jordan was still talking and she was going to do her best to show him she wasn't crazy and could still be liked and maybe trusted.

She'd settle for liked.

"Oh, well, Ah'll always listen ta ya. Yer like one of the few people here Ah could actually care about. Or. . . do still care about, s'kinda hard ta tell. Ah mean Ah never hated ya so. . . . Ah'm babblin'. Yup." Ofelia shut up, rubbed the back of her neck with her hand. If Rue was in her head she'd be cackling, she'd make all kinds of horrible noises to drive the point home. But Rue wasn't and so Ofelia just was making a fool of herself over and over.

Jordan nodded. "She has her own goals," he said, carefully keeping the anger he felt at Rue out of his voice; the way Ofie was acting and reacting, she'd interpret the emotion as directed at her, and all the good this conversation had done would be undermined.

"Thank you. It's okay," he said, and left it at that. "Have you eaten today?"

Ferros chuckled softly.

"Hmm? Food? Ah'm no. . . . now thinkin' Ah should eat sommin' since ya mentioned it." The teen responded, trying hard to not stumble over her words. When Jordan had asked if she was hungry her initial response was to reply 'no' - she actually hadn't had much of an appetite lately thanks to being constantly dogged by Rue - but it only took her a brief second to reliaze what he was asking.

By asking if she was hungry, did that mean Jordan wanted to share a meal with her? Did he want her to cook for him?

Ofelia could only be naive enough to hope so. "How 'bout the two'a ya? Are ya needin' ta eat? Ah could maybe make sommin' fer all'a us."

"That'd be really nice," Jordan answered, smiling a little. He'd had lunch, but one of the effects of constant training was that he was generally not averse to something else to eat. "I can even help; I'm really good at opening cans and getting things out of the fridge."

"I do not eat that sort of food," Ferros answered gravely. "But I will still come with you."

Ofelia chuckled at the remarks about cans and fridges, glad in the bottom of her heart that Jordan would make jokes with her now. Or maybe he was being entirely serious and she shouldn't have laughed.

Crap. Subject change, now.

"At least that sounds a bit better than what Rep can do. He jus' kinda stands there an' stares, though it's really refreshin'." Maybe mentioning Rep was also a bad idea. Ofelia motioned towards the kitchen, starting to walk as her whole body tensed and visible nervousness replaced the easy friendly nature she was trying to gain back around Jordan.

Crap.

"Putting Rep in a kitchen and asking him to do anything other than washing dishes isn't very productive," Jordan agreed, ignoring the way Ofie was tensing up. He was just going to pretend that everything was okay; maybe, if he did, Ofie would relax again. It sounded like she'd had a less violent encounter with Rep since they'd last talked.

That was good. Maybe.

"He really seemed ta like mah food at least. We had spaghetti an' garlic bread. Ah could make it again if ya wanna eat it, or do ya got anythin' in mind ya wanna eat?" Ofelia asked, running a list of things she could cook through her head. She had plenty of ingredients left from her shopping trip, most of them stashed away safely so no one else could get to them, and she tried to narrow down what all she had that could quickly be cooked.

The quicker the better, in her case, just in case Jordan decided to get tired of her and leave her behind again. The last time the two of them were in the kitchen together she ended up having a breakdown in the bathroom shortly after. She didn't want a repeat of that, not now that Rue was out of her head and capable of inflicting serious damage to her should the Boo Hag golem decide to do so.

Upon getting closer to the kitchen Ofelia slowed down in her steps, almost coming to a complete stop. She had to be careful to move to the side, just in case Jordan kept walking, but once again she tensed. Rue was standing at the entrance to the area, a smirking grin on her lips and her arms crossed over her chest. "Rue. . . "

The Boo Hag stayed put, not really moving forward. "I figured you'd come here, so all I had to do was wait. Do you still have your little goldfish following you?" Rue asked, the smirk still playing heavy on her lips, and slowly she started to drum her fingers against her elbows.
