Lucinda never saw the point in the spitting in one's hand for such a shake, but she would do it anyway. She spat in her own hand, then took Mitsuru's and shook it.
"Yes, I think a week would be enough time for me to gather the supplies and ask my friend how to begin with my teaching to read you. All you will need to bring is yourself, eager to learn about the world of reading. I think you will do fine, you just have to put your mind to it,"Lucy smiled brightly.

Mitsuru's heart was lightened. If this girl kept up with her promise, then she'd have a real friend, not one she'd had to trap first.
"Oh, I can do that just fine." She nodded, giving Lucinda's hand another good shake before bouncing off down the road. Once she'd gotten a good distance, she turned, and waved, "Don't forget about next week!"
With her date book planned, Mitsuru took off down the road.

Lucinda watched Mitsuru leave and she smiled as she waved back, having no intention to forget about the meeting the next week.
Lucinda had gone to do her meditation, then arrived back in the spot where she had met the other a week ago. She had a bag slung over her shoulder, carrying the materials she had borrowed from Dea. She sat down near the sign and leaned against the post, waiting for the other to get to where she was.
"It is really a beautiful day, so I am glad we choose today for our meeting,"Lucy spoke to herself.

Mitsuru crawled out from her latest burrow. This one was much better suited to a small child than her old one, seeing as she could get her entire body underground now. The dirty little girl shook the dirt from her body, stretched and rolled her shoulders. Today was the day! The day she was going to learn read! Or at least start, that's what the blue girl had said. What was her name...? Did she even give a name?
The benefits of this burrow only doubled because it's location was only a small walk from the road fork. She arrived just early enough to shake the sleep out of her eyes, and by the time she saw Lucinda she was ten kinds of excited. "You came back!"

Lucinda looked over in the direction of the girl when she heard her voice and she smiled, giving a nod.
"Yes, I did tell you I would come, did I not? I am a person of my words, unless I have a very good reason to not do so. Alright, I do believe I have everything I need to help you begin to learn to read. Are you ready? This will not be easy, but if you are truly determined, you will succeed,"Lucy assured.

"That's good, because I wanted to hope you were." Mitsuru nodded. Disappointment was an everyday occurrence for the Shaymin, but she managed to pull herself up, never the less. It was a nice change of pace when something actually came through for her.
"I can do it," Mitsuru found a spot comfortable to sit on, and clean enough not to dirty Lucinda's clothing too much. "What's the first step?"

Lucinda took ahold of the edge of her dress and gracefully sat down, before taking her bag off her shoulder. She reached inside and pulled out some flashcards that were still in pretty good condition.
"Alright, these are flashcards that have the letters of the alphabet on them. We will go through them and I will teach you the names of all twenty-six letters of the alphabet and what they usually sound like,"Lucy explained.

Mitsuru edged closer, anything but graceful, to get a good look at the flashcards. They were so curiously different that she didn't really know what to think of them at first. She tilted her head to the side, trying to see if they were stacked leaves or petals, but straightened up once Lucinda started to speak.
"There are twenty six of them?" Mitsuru frowned. That seemed like an awful lot...No! She could do this! There was no turning back! "Okay, I'm ready".

Lucinda smiled when she saw the way the other was looking curiously at the cards. She forgot, Pokemon did not know what paper was, not unless they were raised by a trainer. When the girl said she was ready, she nodded her head and took one of the cards from the stack.
"Alright, this first one is the letter 'A.' This has two forms to it, the upper case 'A' and the lower case 'a'. It usually sounds like 'ah,'"Lucy told the other. She pointed at each thing on the card as she talked about it.

"It looks like a tent". Mitsuru pointed out bluntly. She'd seen them before in human groups, and had heard them call the strange burrows that. "It has two forms? It's just like me!" She inhaled on a gasp. Maybe the letter 'A' was related to her somehow?
After looking at the letters for a bit, she mimicked Lucinda's pronunciation until she felt she had it down pat.

Lucinda's smile widened when she made a comparison, thinking it was a very good one.
"Yes, the capital version of the letter does look a lot like a tent, very good. Yes, the letter 'A' and all the letters of the alphabet have a little form and a big form. We will learn when you use each one later on. For now, we are just going to focus on what each letter looks like and what is the general sound,"Lucy explained.

Mitsuru remained a patient, if not curious learner. While she still failed to see the difference between B's and D's lower case forms, or why O required two forms, she stayed dutiful.
That is, until they hit the S's. "It looks like an Onyx." And so many other large Poke'mon she'd seen pictures of. Unlike the other letters, she didn't seem as excited for this one. It was intimidating and large, with it's swirling and aggressive posture.

Lucinda was happy to see how excited Mitsuru was to learn all of these letters. When they got to 'S,' she looked at the letter and admitted that the other was right about what it looked like.
"Yes, you are right, it does look like an Onyx, right? Are you afraid of them, if you do not mind my asking?"Lucy inquired. She could see that she wasn't as thrilled with this letter, though she was not sure why.

"The big, wavy ones never liked me." She always seemed to make them the angriest, and even the thought of seeing an Onyx or Steelix sent shivers down her spine. "I caught an Onyx once, in my hole, and when I wouldn't let her out she went underground. I was so scared because I couldn't find her, then she popped out-" She jumped up, holding her arms out. "-underneath me, and I barely got away. I've never seen anyone that mad before!"
And she hoped she never had to again.

Lucinda listened to the other and could imagine that was not very fun to have something that upset with you.
"Well, I cannot say I have had such bad dealing with them, but my trainer actually has one. She is really sweet, so I suppose it just goes to show each type of Pokemon can be different, even from one another. Maybe if you want, I can show you a nice Onix, then you can see they are not all scary,"Lucy suggested.
