Even though the ride was over, Jove made no move to get off the bike. He remained plastered to Roch's back, face hidden firmly against his vest, making a soft, whimpering noise. The way he trembled must have felt like a malfunctioning massaging backrest.

"Um... okay," Roch said, taking advantage of his light weight and tight grip, Roch stood up. "Bring your legs up," he said as he kicked the kickstand. "I'm gettin' us off, okay?"
Not very manly, he thought with amusement, but oh well. He stepped over the bike, making sure it wouldn't fall over. It was seriously awkward.

Jove didn't listen. He merely clung as Roch dragged him awkwardly off the bike, and kept clinging even after he regained his footing on solid ground. Finally the little tendrils slipped free, and the pup dropped to the ground in a shaky heap. The pavement felt nice. He could have sat there all day, and it might have taken him that long to recover from the trip.

Roch crouched down in front of the pup, digging through his pockets for a moment before pulling out a sucker. "Want this?" he asked the pup. "It might help calm you down," he said, grinning at the pup. "You did good, bro! Real good. But if you want we can walk home," he added.

The sucker gave a little tug in the reaper's hand. It was the only sign Jove had grabbed it with his tendrils before it disappeared into the foxfire's mouth, wrapper and all. It didn't matter what the flavour was, chewing on it soothed his raw nerves.
Three chomps later, the entire sucker and all evidence of is presence was gone. It was amazing what puppies would eat sometimes.

"I'll uh, unwrap that for you next time," Roch said after a moment of silent staring. "C'mon, there's a LOT more to eat inside!" he told the pup as he stood up. "Pizza, pizza and more pizza!" He held out a hand, offering to help Jove to his feet again with an easy smile. "Is it just suckers you eat that fast?" he asked curiously. "Cuz that was seriously cool."

Jove let Roch help him to his feet, his tail wagging very gingery behind him. It was almost more due to Roch's enthusiasm rather than the thought of pizza, the reaper just had an infectious spirit. It was hard to be scared for too long with Roch grinning at him.
The pup's ears perked, he honestly hadn't thought much about eating the sucker. But he would eat another one if Roch wanted him to!

"Y'ready t'go in, then?" Roch said as he saw the tail wag. He started for the door of the pizza joint, holding it open for the pup and waiting for him to go in first. The place smelled great, he noticed. It had a lot of red and dark brown decor, and a shady, candle lit atmosphere. It was probably owned by some of his granddad's more dangerous customers, Roch thought. But it was pretty full, he thought as he glanced around. The fliers must have worked well. There was a buffet table to the side, but he stopped at the front, waiting for the waitress to pop her eye back in (she was buffing it) and lead them to a table first.
