He listened polietly to her, nodding at appropriate times though he was a little confused as to how she had come to stay up at night if her family were up in the day. Like him, his father and brother also woke mostly for the night time hours. Did she not get lonely? He couldn't imagine never getting to really interact with those that you cherished, for those that cared and tended to you. Perhaps that was simply Phoenix's understanding of the world, everyone was different, things changed so dramatically just by changing breed. There was so much he still had to learn in regards to breeds. When healing them they all needed different approaches.... how did his father do it? Then again, his father would heal a skinwalker if he believed the stars had sent him there to do so... Phoenix? He wasn't sure what he would do.

He nodded at her question, not finding it to be a silly question at all. "Yes, though it was not always so. Once I spent more time in the day than the night, even to this day I have the odd week were I will change my schedule." Though that was usually for high intensive patients that needed constant watching, Phoenix found it easier to switch than his father and so took the chore upon himself.

"Happiness." He repeated, looking up at the stars again. "The stars tell so many stories, but the story of the Moon and those little lights that twinkle next to it are by far the most fascinating to me." He realised he was going at a tangent so stopped himself before he rambled too much. Clearing his throat he nodded at her thanks. "When you read the stars... it is important to understand that it is simply interpretation, sometimes they will reveal things to you, sometimes they will give you nothing. The best thing to do is take a deep breath." He did just that, "And then allow your eyes to wander over the sky until something catches your attention. Stop, and focus upon that point." He looked back at her, "Would you care to try?"

Zaniah listened to him speak and frowned,"changing your schedule is hard, doesn't it make you a little tired?" Zaniah used to be a full time day dweller although now it was half and half, she'd watch everyone sleep and talk to those who couldn't. Of course she could never stay up all night and sleep all day or else she'd miss all the important bits and just generally interacting with her family.

She could see how you could shift by a few hours but too much and it'd be too hard to concentrate on anything.

Her ears perked towards him when he cleared his throat and she listened in on what he had to way, she tried to just take the words in like a sponge rather than be so rude as to interrupt.

When he asked her to try she blushed and hopped he couldn't see,"uh…okay."
She knew that she might not sees much, on some days she saw nothing, he eyes wondered until she thought she saw something,"hmmm…what's that there?" She indicate lightly to one of the more prominent groups of bipole stars.

"It is hard, but I usually have a reason and with it the motivation." He didn't go into too much detail, not wanting to bore her with useless information. Keep it light.

He watched her with a quiet interest as he she followed his instructions, he had never taught anyone anything before, so hoped he didn't mess up too badly. In this he was trying to dublicate the teaching his father had given him all those seasons earlier. When she asked him a question he turned to look at where she was obviously transfixed. Alya. He smiled at that, "Alya." He said softly, "Known as the serpents tail. Not an easy constallion to see, since only one star shines extremely bright within it." He was rambling, he knew it, but given the topic he had a tendancy to do just that. "Alya is actually two stars, though I don't expect you to believe me since it does appear as one." Only on certain eves was the duelity of Alya visable from Earth. "The snake, is believed to reveal the secrets of medicine... but it is possible since you are focused on the tail that you are feeling left behind, as if you are an insignificant part wishing to find the secret to your own purpose."

Zaniah smiled,"very interesting. I never knew that. Wow." She didn't think she could ever get bored of this, not for now. Maybe those who spent more time with the stars got to know them better just as they got to know the individual better too, this was apparent to her. She didn't know too many constellations, but her grandfather had taught her about a few when she was a little filly.

Zaniah nodded,"I think this is true." She said she thought when really she really meant that she knew it was true. She knew he couldn't possibly know the name of every star, could he?

All the places he could have traveled played through her mind, she stayed rooted to where her parents currently were, she had only ever herd of them.

He nodded at her, smiling himself with excitment and losing himself a little as he laughed. It was nice to have an encounter was so.... carefree. It wasn't often he spent time alone or relaxing, then again, he hadn't been on his own for too long. Not that his father didn't want him, but Phoenix had decided to take a break, to try and discover himself a little, to learn what he wanted. He wasn't a unicorn after all, wasn't even the best healer, in fact reading the stars was pretty much all he was truely good at.

He shook his head, his mane dancing around him again. "You know..." He said softly, aware of how much of a hypocrite his words were about to make him, "Destiny, is something you need to clasp with your own hooves. The stars.... they can lead and guide, but it is we that lead our lives here, and only we can make the final choices." He smiled and looked up at the stars again, a dreamily look in his eyes. "We must follow our hearts."

Zaniah liked the fact that for once she had someone to star gaze with, sometimes she thought he could be a lot more silly then he let on. She giggled and nudged her new friend's side,"i'm not going to let anything govern my life without having a say too. Don't you worry about that!"

Zaniah giggled again,"of course we must or else we'd be all slaves to what we think is our destiny. Things do change." She only liked change if she could see the benefits, but all the rest she'd rather keep the same, sometimes things would benefit the person later more than now though.
And some people only lived in the present.

Zaniah hadn't seen someone with such a devotion to the stars, she smiled and titled her head, looking at him and then the stars, when she had first met him moments ago she did not know that they'd both be laughing and smiling like friends do. Every word he spoke was true and she really liked that about him.

Phoenix nodded at her, he had intented to give a lecture, had no right to at the best of times, least of all to an Angel such as her. Instead he changed the subject slightly, "Do you believe that you will one day become a star?" It may have been a strange question to ask but there it was all the same.

He chuckled a little, surprised when she bumped into him, most kept their distance from him unless he was healing them... as if they fears his glow, he had heard several call him cursed, just as others called him blessed. He cared not, Phoenix was what he was, there was no changing that, nor did he wish to. He didn't move to nudge her back, but nor did he push her away or act uncomfortable by the action.

"Zaniah." He said her name softly, as if it was as fragile as thin ice below your hooves, "What is it like to fly?" More specifically, to be closer to the stars.

Zaniah almost rolled over onto her side when she asked that question,"oh my!" Zaniah nodded gently,"it could be possible, if I tried hard enough and I mean REALLY hard!" She turned to him and jokingly asked,"can you read minds too?" She thought that if he was a star he'd do well up there, he'd know everyone else but he'd be yet to be truly know by his neighbouring stars.

Zaniah's ears turned to her name,"mmm?" She spoke in a low voice now,"well…it's as much falling as it is conducting the air under your wings at first. You should never be afraid to get your hair messy, it can be as exile rating or as gentle as you like it to be. The moon looks quite a bit larger up there. Our grandfather says that some Angeni are rumoured to be able to fly into the stars, but I don't think I'll ever achieve that." She laughed.

She'd been advised by her parents that it was not the best time to fly because of low visibility but it didn't always stop her taking a swift glide back to the earth. She was afraid if she stayed up there the protectors would see her anyway and bring her back down to earth.

She snapped out of her thoughts to ask,"Have you traveled far?"

He smiled at her words, "I am sure one as pure as you will make it to the stars, do not fear that. Just being yourself will be enough to gain you entry." Yes, he honestly believed that, believed that the brighter the star the purer their life had been, the greater the impact they had had upon the world before they left it. Secure in the knowledge of their place forever. He had listened to so many of the stories as a child, of brave Andromeda, of heros and villians, or brutes and beasts.... had loved them all too.

"Read minds?" He asked, a little surprised by her question, especially the 'too' part... could she read mind? His eyes widened a little, had he offended her with his thoughts perhaps? His heart fluttered in his chest at the mere idea. He had heard that some Angeni had such powers.... but mindreading? He gulped and shook his head, "No ma'am, I do not have such a power."

He relaxed a little as Zaniah spoke of flying, while he had nothing to compare or help him understand what she meant he found her light tone refreshing and soothing, enough to slow his racing heart. "You do not know... unless you try, and try again." His father had often told him that to not try was to give up.

When she asked a question directly of him he blinked in surprise for a moment before smiling and nodding, "Yes. I have seen much of this land... and while I have loved it all... I do fear that such a wandering life if not for me."

Zaniah looked half sad,"and what about you? I don't think it's fair for me to have such a privilege."

She giggled at his answer,"I wasn't being very serious. You can relax", Zaniah had always thought about this power but even if it was possible she wouldn't want it,"I think even if it was possible for either of us, it'd give us headaches. Really bad ones too, so many voices."

"That's a very common saying which I do believe in strongly. But what good is it when I could be talking to you. If I was flying up there tonight I might have missed you."

She knew that if she was flying the only laughing and smiling might've been her own but she had much more fun on the ground and didn't fly too much around non-flying soquili, she didn't like to be fancy or annoying, she'd rather be on their own level.

Zaniah listened to his answer thoughtfully and said,"maybe you just need a friend or two", she always knew things were better with friends, but her sisters were her only friends before this encounter,"it can be better, but if you decide for sure that traveling is not for you, then it is not for you." She just knew it might've been the question of him not being with his father anymore who he seemed to have the most idealistic vision of.

"Me?" He said softly, not looking at her as he spoke. "I have to prove my worth, I must shine in my life to shine in my afterlife." Something Phoenix hoped he could do. He smiled though, trying to lighten the mood. "There is already a Phoenix within the stars... I wonder if he would dislike a second joining him? Perhaps I should change my name to Nix?"

"Ah..." He felt a little foolish for his misunderstanding, even as a quiet relief washed over him at the fact that she could not... or had not at least... read his mind. His shoulders relaxed a little, "Indeed, it would be noisey if you could not learn to switch it off." He said in agreement, nodding softly to her.

"I was not lonely." He said softly, no, that was not the reason for his current thinking, "I.... well, my father is currently talking of stopping. If he does.... well, I have nothing."

Zaniah laid her chin down on the grass, she didn't like these differences. but many would say that's life, she'd rather prove her worth too. She lifted her head and looked at him when he suggested the name change,"no! You cannot do that Phoenix! Do not change yourself for others, especially those who might be jealous", she did laugh though,"but I suppose you can call yourself what ever you want can't you?"

Zaniah blinked,"nothing?" She repeated almost like a mimicking baby.

Her reaction to the nickname surprised him, and he found himself jumping a little, or rather his shoulders moved back a touch. "Oh." He blinked, not having meant that someone would force him to change. It was simply a name, and while it was significant and as much a part of him as his hair and markings, it was just a name. Would a rose by any other name not smell as sweet? "Worry not Angel Zaniah." He said softly, "I will not change because I am told to. I do however not dislike the name Nix." His brother, Sin, often used it after all. It was also as much a part of his name as Phoe was.

A slight sadness filled his expression as she repeated his final word. At first all he did was nod. Until he eventually forced himself to reply. "Yes. I help him heal, mix medicines and hold patience down if it is so needed... yet... I am not well suited for it, my traits are far from that of a unicorn meaning I burden my father to do all the work. He is tiring," And missing his mother, Relia, of this Phoenix was sure. "When he stops... what shall I do? I know nothing else. I am not even that good a medicine man." He looked up at the stars a little whimsical. "Perhaps I should tell fortunes."
PostPosted: Wed Aug 08, 2012 9:20 am

Zaniah realised she had startled him," oh dear, I didn't mean to startle you", she smiled weakly."well if you don't mind, would you mind if I called you that sometimes?" She wasn't one for nicknames without permission unless it was one for her sisters.

Zaniah waited in silence for a word or atleast an intake of breath from him, she thought that maybe he was being a little hard on himself, sure it always took longer without unicorn magic, but healing took time. "Maybe you could practice, it takes time." She frowned,"you just need to believe in yourself, herbal methods take much longer, we both know that. Just believe in yourself."

Zaniah listened to the undertone of sadness in his voice,"it could be your calling. But not just mere fortunes, fortunes for bigger things like families and other herds, I think that a lot of figure heads would be very interested." She knew too many went round telling false fortunes, a quick listen of his convinced her that they hinted at the truth.

Phoenix shook his head at her apology, "You have done nothing wrong, please do not feel as if you have." He felt a little guilty at having made the female feel bad enough that she felt the desire to apologise. He would make it up to her, or at least try, he decided. "Yes, if you desire to do so. That would be lovely." It wouldn't bother Phoenix if anyone decided to call him a nickname, though he couldn't help but smile at the fact she had asked permission to do so.

"Practice." He said softly, shaking his head, "I do not have much of a head for it, I do try, but beyond watching patients and grunt work I am often useless, and not just for my lack of unicorn features." He chuckled softly, "My brother is not much of a healer either, he is far more adapted...." he hesitated, but since he had started he realised it would look bad to simply stop mid sentense. "...to poison studies. He is good though, so do not fear." Yes, Phoenix would never believe anything bad about his brother, his name, Sin, was not one of fault or hardship but of honour.

"I do not believe great herds or leaders would wish for my interference." He laughed a little nervously, "Plus I fear what would happen if I did not speak what they wished to hear."
